UPSPEC'D 2022 KAWASAKI YELLOWBALL Z900RS SE Announced | An Owner's Review.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Kawasaki are releasing the Z900RS SE Yellowball. As a current owner of a Z900RS, I run my critical eye over the Yellowball Z900RS SE with a view to asking if they have addressed the main areas that owners universally agree need improving, and whether they should be offering the same details for the candy tone blue RS version. What will this ultimate UJB from Kawasaki add to an already good bike? What did Kawasaki miss with these updates? Are they upgrades worth it?

I owned a 1974 Z-1B with the burgundy metalflake and red trim; it was beautiful. I bought mine used, and the stock 4-into-4 pipes had been replaced by a Hooker 4-into-1 megaphone, and it sounded awesome, only bested by the 4-into 1 Kerker race pipe I replaced it with after several years. I like the looks of the new 4-into-1 exhaust, it reminds me a lot of the Hooker (except of course the Hooker didn't have the big half-hidden resonator underneath). I'd happily own one of these new versions.

Nice work putting this video together. Very nice. I have an RS, 2018. Recently installed the Michelin’s sport 5s. Incredible difference. Confidence inspiring. I also installed the delkevic 4-4 exhaust. Looks great however it seems to have lost some mid-range torque with the pipes. I’m old so no worries there as the bike has more than enough spunk for my cruising. I find the front brake is fine. The rear brake is disappointing. I use it frequently. Possibly a spillover from mx riding in my youth. Maybe I’ll look into steel brake lines and pad upgrade. Thanks again for a phenomenal video.

That is a beautiful bike. I had a 2016 T120, which I modified quite a bit and absolutely loved it, but this is something else. My only quibble would be no rear shocks. I just think they are part of the retro look, especially in gold to match the rest. One other question would be luggage. I know you can strap things to the seat etc but some matching luggage would be the dogs. Great review!

I think the reason they went 4 into 1 is because in the seventies everybody dumped their four into four exhaust systems and put Kirker 4 into 1s on them. I like the look a lot better than 4 into four or four into two. I have a 2020 Cafe version and I absolutely love it.

It's a great upgrade to the current model. I love the yellow and black paint scheme, it goes with the gold wheels and forks perfectly. The candytone blue is also gorgeous and should be offered as a second colour option on the S.E. If you have the extra cash you could order it with the blue bodywork instead or get it painted. I am seriously considering purchasing the S.E so am really excited about this new model. Cheers and ride safe.

I hope they have gone over the throttle. I saw many say the RS has snatchiness when applying throttle, when coming out of a corner. ......... I saw your vid where you said you had your bike throttle re-tuned for a lower warm-up tickover. I think you said the throttle was smoothed out too, and snatchiness gone. I hope Kawa sorted that. Am not a fan of the Yellowball paint work, but I could live with it. ... Also I always loved looking at the 4-into-1 on this bike. It's probably the most gorgeous set of pipes I ever saw.

Like you say, the throttle needs work on the stock RS; Kawasaki have not stated that they have remapped/smoothed the fuelling. If not, that is a shame. Of course, it doesn't mean they haven't, just that they don't want to admit to any faults with the past incarnations of the model. Thanks for the feedback.

the Dunlop's are fine when they had worn out replace them i went for Bridgestone sports touring t32. brakes are more than adequate honestly the engine braking is so good. little need for the back brake in normal road riding. I bought mine after the 2018 launch the first in Hong Kong. You get the same feel of wonderments riding this after 3 years of riding as you did on day one. I bought the lower seat its dam uncomfortable after an hour of riding keep the original seat on your bum will thank me. no manufacture comes close to the quality of the paint work on the tank the bike comes with a custom paint job. i know little regarding suspension drove it out the shop on the factory setting never changed anything. the bike takes 2 adults easily if you are going to be riding with a partner this is probably one of the best bikes to buy. Had to sell my original Z900rs as leaving hk to uk Getting my next 900rs as soon as i get back to uk.

Well done ! I'm not planning to exchange my '19 Cafe for a newer RS but these mods are something I was going to do anyway. I've put SS braided brake lines on every bike I've owned and I will evaluate my liking of the braking after I've done it to my Z. As far as suspension goes, I've put 10,000 kms on it in just over a year and have been looking for signs of immediate concern which never really materialized. Yes it's just a bit lively when thrashed but nothing scary for me. The original tires are now well worn, and will be replaced with the Michelins you suggested recently. The Dunlops were shit. Kawasaki should offer tank and tail kits in various colour combinations for customers. For me, the stock exhaust sounds great and is this is the first bike I've owned that I'm not itching to change the pipe or can. Keep up the good work BMR. Hope those fires in BC end soon.

Thanks, Laz. Agree - I've done enough mods to mine to want to keep it, although I will be sticking on a new shock and brake mc/sintered pads over the winter. The lines have made a difference, but I'm still not feeling that initial bite I'd like. The bike fits me like a glove; a candy tone blue or red/gold would have tempted me, but I fear the control tower would have objected. As it is, the yellow is not enough to enter into a marital debate! The fires are still nuts - no significant rainfall in over 90 days now, although tomorrow is a 60% chance of showers...fat chance! Cheers.

My other bike is a cb1000r and the forum for that bike is abysmal, you get a post or a comment on a post a couple times a week where the kawi forum pages are constantly being discussed, I’m seeing more and more Z900rs’s around and I not surprised, it’s such a fantastic bike and the power delivery after being flashed is perfect for city street or backroad riding.

The fit and finish is excellent and I think its one of the most beautiful bikes available right now. There is not much of an aftermarket for it though and I obviously like to mod my rides a little, there are no ecu flashes available, you cant even change the sprocket sizes without getting an error on the dash, and as I mentioned there is not much of a forum presence of people modding their bikes other than a full exhaust and a rapidbike or powercommander system. Someone tried to tell me 20k for the SE, which seems way to close to the standard RS to make sense, I’m thinking north of 23k, I don’t know if that makes it a harder sell. But I guess this is competative when you look at the R9T base which starts at...starts at $17.5K over here, but more expensive than the base speed twin $14.2K. I tested it on a cool November day, and the rear shock damped well. But fast forward two years and the chance to ride it spiritedly in the summer heat, and the shock comes up short. I think the oil thins quickly under hard use, particularly on hot days, and you end up getting a pogo/jack hammer affect when riding on bad roads and spiritedly. As a consequence, many owners change the shock to the ohlin or the wilbers.

Great chassis, but I continue to scratch my head as to why the power levels are so low. I had a 1984 gpz1100 and a 1994 cb1000 - both had more power and were faster than this. Just odd.

Yes, but this is based on a bike that was hatched in 1972, well before the first superbikes like the GPZ s of the 80s and CBs of the 90s. The Z1 s had about 80-85 hp. I think this replicates that, and then some. It is also deceptively quick, perhaps because of the retuning, gearing and smaller rear wheel (than the original). Cheers.

Not sure about Wisconsin, but this year's sold out within weeks of launch. You may have to put money down for next years, but you'll have to check at a local dealer. Good luck.

Give me the original seat I may consider. Two stage seats are for short folks, same as the missues sweet '95 500 Polaris Deluxe long track snowmobile. Heck, I'd be an owner of a BMW adventure if my knees weren't two feet past shift footy/peg, cost be damned. I had a '74 in the candy apple...green or called yella? ~ Fresh of a 125 on/off Suzie, nobody told me it wasn't an adventure bike, and couldn't lean out of certain death too fast curve popped up. (knocks wood) yoiks! brake reservoir itself is a deal breaker unless they make a phone/tunes attachment jobbie. Radar detector holder? ahem, back in the day what sold me in '73 rag article was the author named it effortless. That it was. At 6k it came to life as near an electric drill setting speed...for its day of course. twas 60 in first gear. blah blah blah, ears over ankles as skiing, mild off roading..grassy short cuts was my 465# of mother's worry at eighteen. Zed? wat dat? It was already named Effortless. KZ1000's looked lame to me, but the great sound was reminiscent.
