Ойын-сауық

Contract negotiations between UPS and the union representing 340,000 of the company’s workers broke down Wednesday. Sean O’ Brien, the president of the union, discusses the latest.

You're able to give 8.4 billion in stock buy backs but nothing for the people who actually do the work. Why not 7 billion to the stock holders and 1 billion to your employees. The work that you would get from the employees after that would be through the roof. You speak of employees milking the clock whem its the other way around. Plenty of drivers put in a lunch that they don't take just to be able to get off at a decent time. Others come an hour early to load their own trucks off the clock so they can get off early. You have no clue what goes on in this operation.

As a UPS full-time package car driver, I can honestly say this is the most confident I've been heading into a contract. I just had my first child a few days ago, and I'm excited to see higher wages, more vacation, more paid time off, better protection against excessive overtime, and etc. Family time is important, if not the most important, and I can't wait to win a contract that gives me a fair days work at a fair days pay so I can spend as much time with my new little buddy.

It’s a big buisness. UPS is the best and they provide their employees with free healthcare, and excellent wages. Part timers have it made also, especially free healthcare paid by the employer…I truly believe ups when they said “we having nothing more to offer” because they are providing and paying for everything…it’s one of the toughest jobs to do. The ones that stay and work are tough individuals. People need to also realize that part time workers work for 8-12 years usually to become a full time employee outside of driving trucks. It is a very low percentage of warehouse employees that are full time. But the company wants to pay for only part time work and subcontract deliveries over having their own employees delivering those packages. Most people stayed home and made more money than a lot of the drivers and warehouse workers that risked their lives and their families lives during a global pandemic. We did not get hazard pay or anything extra except uncertainty. Imagine going to 400+ homes and businesses a day and being in contact with most of those people not knowing if you were putting yourself or your family at risk. Workers died, their families died and we didn't get anything in return. The company would discipline us for missing work while we had COVID or if we were just sick in general. People blaming us for wanting more should understand this. We are lucky to have Teamsters fighting for us when in the traditional private sector you fight for yourself. This job is not easy to get or even handle day in and day out. You would truly not understand unless you are in our shoes. So please believe us under good faith when we say we want our fair share. This company is making record profits off of our backs and want to cut our wages. And we have New leadership now that's strong and wants to fight for the people and I think everyone can respect that

Sean should add that part timers wait sometimes decades before making regular those making 90k as full time package drivers are few and far between. They are doing something similar here at USPS with table 2 payscale for newer employees, yes more are career, but unlike say package car drivers at UPS maxing out at 4 years, letter carriers take 13 years to reach max pay, 15 years in plant and we make 10k less top pay, overtime with dejoy is also shrinking so in many areas like colorado that had no staff due to cost of living we can't really afford to live off one job alone. The rub is bc we are federal we can't strike, so all the bs of no ac in LLVs for decades, no postal police protecting carriers leading to more robberies, harassment on top of the pay is something we just have to put up with.

I work at UPS as a cover driver and got paid dirt for 2.5 years. I and others would agree I had one of the worst routes. I'd often lift 150 lb bunk beds up 4 flights of stairs. The biggest problem with cover driving is you're not full time and you most likely won't see full time until after 5 years. So, when you're not cover driving, you get sidelined back into the warehouse to slave away with less hours and pay. A few of us load 5 trucks at a time while others load 2 or 3. I don't care who you are, you aint loading 5 trucks by yourself without putting your health at risk. Too many supervisors are scared about losing their jobs due to not completing tasks in time. The supervisors and upper management are the ones that don't stand with the workers. It's all about numbers and covering themselves instead of who cares how long it takes, just be safe. It ain't their money, let the company figure out why productivity is slow. It's because they need more workers which they can't seem to hold very long because of all this.

The part timers are PART TIME. You can’t expect to live off of a part time wage! The part time wages are out of wack, it’s not fair how the newcomers get paid to match the adjusted living cost and not the higher seniority employees. Each local is different & each living cost is different. Whatever the agreed living cost is…it needs to be adjusted to be the same all across the part time. It makes no sense that you are trying to bump up the PART TIME workers to make more than the 22-4’s have been making for the last 3 YEARS…all throughout the pandemic. You already give them full benefits! Fight for the DRIVERS! They are the ones out there delivering 200+ stops a day in all weather conditions!!
