I was taught that when you go fishing, you always give the first one back to tangaroa.. as for having a kai on the beach.. I was taught you can have a feed by the sea, but you dont leave any shells or bones behind or else the kina, paua, ika, kaura etc think it's a graveyard, so they will move away from that area.. anywho, that's what I was taught 😊.

We were always raised and told not to eat next to the sea always being told thats the rules, as I got older we were told that it was okay because our tupuna had lifted the tapu around things like this when it came to tikanga almost like they knew that the ways of the old would cease to exist which meant their interpretation around tikanga had to change to suit our times. Again this is korero passed down to me. So all I teach my boy is respect Tangaroa when you are in his domain and thank him for providing. Where we eat it doesnt matter so long as our respect for Tangaroa is the same. Anyway brother hate that you're going through tough times and hope things get better. Tuuuuuku

But hard, me personally, I think it is teka bro, you are right, how would they have eaten on the waka coming from Hawaii if the rahui went down on no eating kaimoana, doesn't make sense to me. We come under Tumatauenga, and he was pissed at all this teina for not helping in the fight with Tawhiri, so he ate or used all their children as revenge and gave that mana to his children to eat or use their children, Tu children is us, so yeah.
