UPRIGHTING MOLARS

The excessive inclination of mandibular molars is one of the most frequent malocclusions in adults. The root spring can solve this problem with great speed and efficiency. Learn how to make a root spring in this video.

    Thank you! These tubes are called CROSSTUBES. Its easy to clip in the archwire and they are very useful for segmented mechanics.

    Thanks for your suggestion Dr. I started this SELF-EXPLANATORY videos to help people see and understand the power of Biomechanics. I agree that for a full comprehension and application of the mechanics a verbal explanation is indicated. For this purpose, I've just launched my Online Workshop on Biomechanics - I hope you enjoy it! More details here: payhip.com/b/4Wa70

    Wouldn't a simple centered V bend act in a similar manner? Could be activated intraorally as well.

  • @essentialbiomechanics9381

    @essentialbiomechanics9381

    This is a very important and complex question Dr Maciej. If you insert a straight wire in this malocclusion (let´s focus on the inclined molar and on the anchorage unit), the resulting force system will be similar to a class III geometry. I mean, you will have the desired moment to upright the molar, but you´ll also produce an extrusive force in this tooth, which usually is not desired. If you make a centered V bend starting from this situation, the resulting force system will be the same. Another way to produce only moments in the molar (Geometry VI) would be by starting making a PASSIVE wire segment, and then insert a centered v bend. This approach would produce the appropriate force system (only moments), and this activation can be made intraorally. However, as soon the tooth move (let´s consider only the molar will move) the force systems will change (probably to a class of geometry V), and then you can not simply repeat this intraorally activation, because this activation will not produce a geometry VI anymore. To sum up, the safest approach to deliver only moments to a dental unit is by making a passive appliance (eg. the root spring of the video) and then activate it appropriately in each visit.

  • @essentialbiomechanics9381

    @essentialbiomechanics9381

    In this case NO Dr, because this would act as a cantilever - and vertical forces would be produced. You need a statically indeterminate system (fully attached in both ends) in order to produce only couples (Geometry VI system)
