This past summer I had the opportunity to work with 18 other builders, 4 trip leaders, and 2 trip parents at a local primary school on the island of Upolu, Samoa. Over the course of just 17 days and 5,009 miles away from home we had the chance to build 2 classrooms, giving 60 more kids the opportunity to have an education most of us take for granted here in the United States. The locals in Samoa are the most loving people I have ever been blessed enough to have gotten to know. I could go on and on forever about just how incredible the Samoan people are but there will truly never be enough words to describe how amazing they truly are. Our trip had the most amount of emergencies happen across all HXP trips this summer, yet collectively as a group we can all say we wouldn’t have had it any other way. We learned to turn inward and lean on each other in times of hardships but to quickly turn outward and serve others. The moment we gathered together at the Los Angeles International Airport we were excited to get to know each other and after only a 10 hour flight we already felt God’s presence and love through each other. The beauty of it all is that at every moment on our trip we began to realize just how much God was aware off our needs and how much we would need each other on our trip. Each of us had some type of hardship in our own personal lives yet there seemingly was always someone else who was going through the exact same thing or something very similar to it. We learned and grew from each other and I know for me my testimony grew more than I ever could have imagined.
