It always strikes me as an odd way to spot weld, although everyone I see using these welders uses it the same way. It seems logical to me to have a relatively large contact the goes onto the battery terminal that is being welded - purely to connect to it as a conductor - then have the second contact with a small rounded tip which is pushed down onto the nickel strip. In this way none of the current is being shorted directly by the nickel, it is all being conducted by the contact point between the battery terminal and the strip. That ought to give a much stronger weld than the way it is usually seen to be done. Curious to know if anyone has tested this theory?

If you need the strips to handle more current you could weld .1 and then over lap with .1 again.

Honestly the welds don’t look like there a true great resistance weld didn’t look like the weld is burning in that good I got a spot welder just like that one and so far the welds I don’t want to trust them are you sure that Bart welder is worth adding more battery power to it in order to get a great spot weld. I was wondering if you think them are really good welds after fixing the spot welder with a external battery pack

@gerards-tips-and-tricks Thank you for sharing your experience! This is what I was looking for. I have the same issue welding a pure nickel strip of 0.2 mm thickness. How do you think, does it make sense to sold a copper wire to the 18650 batteries instead of welding a nickel strip ?

Many would deterr you from soldering Li-ion cells but in my experience, I say it's absolutely possible and can be done safely, as long as you're experienced enough with soldering using a powerful soldering iron, 80w/100w with a flat tip, you need to make sure you don't overheat the cell, I've seen some people put their cells in the refrigerator, take them out when they are at about 10°c which makes soldering safer, lowering the risk of fire (never happened to me, yet) or damaging the cells, just experiment, make mistakes, correct them, that's part of life.

At least it was not a total waste of time...you esentialy now have a super duty charge cycle to last long long time using it each charge...and can do power tools battery upgrade too....win win

Connecting an extra power source (battery) in parallel did not help me. So I fear it will not help you either. I am satisfied with the KMoon 5000W welder I bought since (and I think already a newer one -maybe even more powerfull- has come up based on the same (battery included) principle.

Good day sir, i want to ask if its possible to replace the batteries of other source of power, because my newly bought spot welder have the same battery as yours although mine has expanded/swelled from manufacturer? I tried to return and refund, got a refund but they said they don't need the product anymore so i don't need to return the product. I also tried looking for same type of battery online but i cant find same battery convenient to my place. That's why i want to know how to fix my battery source to fix the broken spot welder sir. Thanks in advance.

@@johnnycombo9751 its online store shopee. And i tried changing its battery, i found that it really is defective when tried putting a 6v 3a source only. The 3AQ20 chip is burning directly to the power button. I got a hit one time but dont have enough power, then i saw smoke and little burns. So i discarded it since the board also was burned out due to process.

does it use BMS for your battery 3S sir??

No it doesnt otherwise it will trip the bms and it will not work

I think your tips are too rounded. You need a very small point of contact with light preasure to focus the current/heat.

you can add batteries but the power is limited by the amount of mosfets that handle the current while welding, more mosfets means more current. See what I mean in the video here kzread.info/dash/bejne/i5uKrbyzh6i5eMY.html. Great try though! I like what you did with the cords, it made them really beefy!

What you put on wire called flux not soldering resin also your soldering wrong thats why you have lumps. Always place soldering iron UNDER the wire and solder on top of the wire. Solder is suppose to flow into the wire. Why didnt you use longer cables.?

True! but me i'm using Eagle soldering paste it's like a flux but only for wires

Nice try. Thanks for sharing. This welder works very well with 0.1mm PLATED strip (and as you have shown , it's ok with 0.1mm PURE strip). However , it does not work on 0.15mm and above PURE strip (as you demonstrated).

Ahh, I thought you were going to increase the voltage of the internal battery.

Use pure nikkel strips like 96% for more amps

I can answer that. It's a 'portable' spot welder. Fits in your pocket. In fact, i have carried mine that way several times. I tried with a car battery. It's heavy! I can't even keep balance on my bike very well while it's in my bag. Not everyone is rich enough to have a car connected to their car battery.

Its a crap welder.

That is a bold and according to my experiences untrue statement! The welder does what the manufacturer and seller say it is capable of which is welding 0.10-0.12 mm nickel strips. That is done perfectly. Trying to get good welds with 0.15 and even thicker strips is wishful thinking. The fact that I was not able to improve the welding power with thicker leads and more input power means that the manufacturer developed a well balanced product. If you and me need heavier welding we will need to invest in a more expensive product. I am glad that the Chinese sellers are reducing the exaggerated claims they tend to make….. Thanks, Gerard

I would have used a heatgun and a solder iron at the same time, i have done that and worked good. I am going to do the same, but i am going from AWG 10 to AWG 8, still waiting for my cable.
