Upgrading my IKEA greenhouse cabinet | tutorial, update, and tour

❀ 4 month update!
• IKEA greenhouse cabine...
I'm upgrading my IKEA greenhouse cabinet! I'm converting my Rudsta cabinet into a paludarium with an active waterfall and mister. This was a big challenge for me since I haven't done anything like this before, but I'm happy with how it turned out. I made a lot of mistakes along the way, but hopefully, you can learn from my failures haha. If I missed anything in the video, or if you have any questions, please ask in the comments!
best,
benji
Huge thank you to Botanicaz for sponsoring this video and sending me some wonderful plants! This is my first sponsorship on KZread and I'm glad to work with them. Thank you, Anya and Maggie :)

❀ plant recommendations
Begonia, Fern, Philodendron, Alocasia, Monstera, Pilea, Raphidaphora, Epipremnum, mosses, and many others. I'd recommend avoiding plants that will get super large as they can quickly crowd your cabinet.

There is foam spray on Amazon for waterfalls. It is waterproof and dark grey. It's a little more expensive, but that is what he should have used in conjunction with pure silicone.

every time you said that you used the foam to seal or glue something I was like "NOOOOO" lol. The foam is just used to create lightweight mass. Silicone is used for sealing and gluing stuff. The idea for using plastic containers to build mass was genius and the end result is still amazing

Another hazard issue is that the foam dispenses styrene vapours when hardening. Styrene litterally melts your brain so most care when dealing with it is obligatory. Proper face mask and plendy of fresh air is needed.

Question is foam dangerous for amphibians? I thought you have to cut the glossy layer? (I guess doesn't matter since it's for plants but curious) Also would the water pull chemicals off the foam?

I've been a viewer of Serpa Design for a little while, and your "I want to shrink down and live here" (or just visit, so we can return to the big world and make more vivariums, etc!) was one of my earliest thoughts.. and your creation here illicits the same feeling. 💚👏

Beautiful and inspiring 🥰. I built a bioactive, arid/desert vivarium last year. It was for my bearded dragon. Choosing the plants was challenging and I found, their requirements were very different in this enclosed environment, compared to just having them on display around the house. I had quite a few plant casualties, before I got it right.😞 I'm watching your video closely and I'll be saving it for future reference, I'd really like to do a tropical viv next, maybe with some frogs.🤔 Congratulations on an amazing build and a great video. Haha, I got the exact same idea a couple of months before this upload. Except I just build a cannabis grow cabinet. Sealed it with rubber strips, installed 4 CPU fans; two intake in the bottom, two exhaust fans in the top, and fitted them with carbon filters. Mars T-1000 grow lights and a fan for extra air circulation. It just looks great, and you can see and admire the growth of the plants every day. This build is of course something entirely different. It is beautiful and serene, really great work. I’ll definitely consider converting my cabinet in the same way, when I grow tired of growing 😀 Big up for the upload

super glue works great for attaching moss to the background! also to get the silicone to stay on, you need to carve off the surface of the expanding foam. silicone won’t stick to smooth surfaces
