The black ones will eventually turn gray/white. At least they did on the fx6 and 4.
The spray bar is useless on a big aquarium .I used two Sicce Voyager 4 Stream Pumps ,one on each side of my 60 gallon and it moves the water nicely and I still used the skimmer on my 407 and i use the Fluval Bio FX filter media along with Chemi-pure Blue.And my tank is crystal clear and no surface film.
