Just wanted to drop a note that this video helped me immensely. I have an Optiplex 7060 MT (I found it in the garbage) i7 8700 32GB Ram RX 6600XT Corsair SF750 I'm about to install Batocera and couldn't be happier. Sidenote: I had a problem when I first installed the new power supply. The computer wouldn't boot. It would just power on an then after a few seconds power off. At this point I had to clear the cmos. I not only removed the battery, but I also moved the jumper on JMP1 to position 5-6 and left it there for about ten minutes. I them moved the jumper back to position 3-4 and reinserted the battery. After that, everything worked. Good luck yo everyone trying this. Big props to Umbrella

I thought all desktop computers these days stuck to the ATX standard, but apparently not Dell for some reason. Needless to say, I won't be buying another Optiplex, and I'll look at the manual before buying.

@@paulshizzledizzle6180 Yeah, they both worked out pretty well but ended up with an odd issue on one. If I restart the computer, it restarts fine. But if I tell it to shut down, it wont boot afterwards. I have to pop the side of the case and pull the CMOS battery for it to boot again. Guessing its either a power supply or motherboard issue and seeing as how the two PSUs were brand new I'm guessing I may be stuck with a partially defective motherboard. (It was an Ebay refurb afterall.) And my 30 day return window to return the PSU's just closed 2 days ago so I'm just gonna live with it. Other than that small hiccup both computers work great, might even upgrade them to M.2 drives but even with the old fashioned SSD's they're quick little boxes. Stuffing all those extra cords in was a bit of a pain, but they should have a small empty area in the bottom front of the case where they can sit.

Do you think a rtx 2060 or 1070 ti will work? Planning to have a fsp dagger pro sfx 450w psu .. how do you think the thermals would do without modifying anything .. or is it that 1660 ti would be the best possible gpu for this optiplex .. i have a 3050 MT which is I think have the same dimensions as your 7040 .. TIA .. much love to ur channel

This is great. However there is a dell 500w supply available for the newer Optiplex 7080 and 7070 now, 6 pin not 8 pin however. But you can also get a TFX PSU which is the correct size for the cut out and use an adapter like you have.

Wait, huh? I have a Optiplex 7040 SFF, will those TFX psu be compatible with mine? Are they interchangable like that? The maximum compatible PSU I've found was a 315w for the Optiplex XE2

@@SamLoki if the 7040 has the long thin TFX PSU then yes a TFX PSU with an adapter will work. Silverstone make some higher wattage TFX units. However like in this vid you will find that SFX will fit but you need to drill some new screw holes.

Will not this create a negative pressure when the psu takes inn fresh air and gpu takes inn air so close to each other? I did this but other way for my dell optiplex 7050m, but when i try to boot with it the gpu goes full speed, i read somewhere that the 7050m does a psu check everytime it boots, at first i had to unplugg the gpu power cable then start the psu so that the pc could do a psu check or something, then i could plug the gpu cable in and start the pc, i fixes this problem by going into bios and cliked always powermode always on, but the problem i have now is that if i want to shut down the pc i need to shut down the psu if not the pc will try to shut down and after 20 sec after i try to shut down the pc the gpu and cpu fann goes full speed, there is no light in the pc but gpu and cpu fan going crazy almost like the psu wont shut down.

I understand the whole "More power" thing for the video card but removing the in place power connections from the motherboard to the reader and drives is somewhat silly. You just increased the points of failure in your system by plugging into the modular power supply. You also increased the clutter inside your system unnecessarily. Yes you removed two cables running from the MB but you added two cables running from your PS. Kind of a DUH moment if you ask me.
