I have two of them. The telephoto is great at capturing license plates that a dash cam with only a wide angle lens cannot do. Best dash cam out there... I like the large size and blue color so people can see they're being recorded. The power output on the camera is for connecting the camera to a computer. My parking mode with hardwire kit records continuously - there is no 9 or 10 second delay so I don't miss any action. All in all, this camera is much better than one of the big brand name cameras I had previously and got rid of because it failed after 3 warranty replacements!

Damn, Two front cameras and an option for a rear camera? I'm sold.

Very nice, My only gripe is the blue color facing out my window like you said.

Why do these companies choose a non-stealth color? That alone makes it a no-buy for me. My A129 Pro Duo is very stealth and has not failed in 3 years.

because sometimes a more obvious dash cam can actively discourage people from doing dumb things in view. That said, if the colour is the only thing stopping you, a can of matte black dip is like $4.

@Blue84Stang the only time that would work is if the camera recorded to the Cloud. Local storage would do nothing. They are not going to steal the camera as they are going to see something in plain view or the car. Smash and grab takes seconds. Imo. Painting it would prob kill the warranty.

​​​@@Blue84Stangthe base color should be black or gunmetal grey and the OEM should produce and offer colorful skins/clip-on cases for extra cost if people want a flashy dash cam. This would actually be genius to squeeze some extra money out of customers. But it makes no sense to choose such a specific and honestly bright color for a semi permanent product that the OEM likely hopes to have general appeal. If the color of the cam clashes with the color of the car or interior, some people won't buy it. If it's not stealthy, some people won't buy it. It's just an objectively bad design choice as opposed to something more neutral.

One reason that this camera has really attracted me is the ability ti more clearly document rampant crime that occurs on city streets these days. The telephoto lens should immensely assist in perpetrator identification. In my area we often have intoxicated people that impede traffic, pose a threat to life and limb and property, etc.. An advantage to consider I suppose, at least it is for me. I live in the Seattle area so I am sure Vortex understands those concerns.

@@VortexRadar I'm very tempted but was waiting your input. So far, the videos I've seen aren't that bad, but certainly not what I was expecting. I work nights doing security patrols so a dashcam is more than a car camera to me.

I would love to see something like this but in Rear Mirror form factor and black, that would be very nice and stealthy. Also that timelapse Parking mode shouldn't be in beta, that is something that even the cheapest of the dash cams have this days. In the mean time I will use the mobius camera to get the Telephoto.

5:45 Thinkware must be thrilled to be mentioned in the same breath as Cansonic. lol

Nice to see that you are focusing on capturing car licenses plates. Cansonic did a good job to use a 2K camera for telephoto version and using the HDR. But too many dashcams are using the same IMX335, I am already bored about it. Not only because too many dashcams are using it but also because it was not a great Sony CMOS model. I hope next Sony versions to be better than IMX335 and we should quickly forget about it. Strange to see that Thinkware and Blackvue not using HDR. They are sure about their sales without implementing such important option like HDR. About street lights glare, I will tell you a secret. The more you mount the camera to the top of the window the more glares you will have. This secret is general and not about the U3000 image from your actual comparison because here is another situation.

Will the magnetic mount hold in the case of a severe crash?

Sir, I live in Barbados and I drive a Hilux pickup. are there any cameras that could be placed on the exterior (let us say on the bumper) that I could use for recording? Reason why I am asking is because my rear cam doesn't capture when cars are too close or tailgating. I can't see the licence plate at the front. Would be truly grateful for your input. By the way, i got the Viofo A119 V3 because of your videos!

Please help! I started watching Ariel's Vortex Radar dash cam videos last night (and all day today - Happy Thanksgiving!) after being involved in an accident in which the person at fault fled the scene. I gave the police a description of the vehicle and the first three letters of the license plate, but they haven't found the vehicle yet. I've been watching video after video of Ariel's reviews (Cansonic Z3+, Vantrue N4 Pro, Viofo A139 Pro, Nextbase 422GW, etc.) and I've been taking notes, but I'm so confused on which dash cam I should buy. I want one that will capture a license plate during the day, at night and if a car is in motion. Any recommendations?

@VortexRadar if you don't have DIY fears then you can modify a dashcam, Viofo is using M12 CCTV lenses, just get a "duo" set and change the lens in one of them. Im using 6mm as the second camera.

Yep, in the previous video I went into a bunch of detail regarding different ways like that people have been adding telephotos to their car. Viofo is also now working on their own native telephoto solution.

Any idea what the best solution would be for a rear view mirror replacement? I'm trying to find a camera that can provide a high quality image like Sony's Starvis 2 when driving/backing up at night while the RVM is obstructed with cargo. The wolfbox videos I've seen looked very poor at night compared to IMX678 sensors.

There aren’t any yet. The closest thing right now is the Nexigo D90 which uses a proper 4K Starvis sensor. None of the fake 4K stuff like Wolfbox. amzn.to/3FqTCfa

What is everyone using to stick your devices to your windshield? I have a Nextbase dash cam and no matter what adhesive I use it keeps falling off! The included suction cup just sucks! I've tried industrial 3m two sided tape, industrial velcro, I've cleaned ALL surfaces with alcohol, no matter what I use my dash cam just falls off the windshield within a week or two! I live in upstate NY so you have an idea of the weather conditions I'm in...I am just ready to superglue it to the windshield and be done with it!!!

Wow really? That sounds very unusual, like your windshield is coated in teflon or something. What car do you drive? Another option to consider if nothing else works, besides superglue, is using a Blackvue dashcam and hanging it under your rearview mirror with the Blendmount.

@@VortexRadar I have a 2021 GMC Sierra Denali. After posting this I did more research and found another suction cup made by Nextbase that is supposed to work better than the one that comes with the camera (622GW I believe is the model) …and no I won’t superglue my camera to my windshield lol! I’m just so frustrated with it! I had similar issues with my Uniden R7 and eventually went with the rear view mirror mount which I love! I wish I could mount my camera there too at the same time!

It’s not unusual. 2 weeks ago I received 2 replacement mounts, within a week falls off all the time. Sunny Seattle area helps secure your camera.

It doesn’t have infrared LEDs so it’s not designed for that.

It's 2024 and the Cansonic Z3+ came out in 2020 and doesn't even have 4k. Massive deal killer here. Hopefully viewers are paying attention to that huge gap in manufacture date.

How come? The telephoto will make a bigger difference when it comes to detail capture than bumping to 4K.

To get non blurry images of licence plates the manufacturer need to use a camera with a manual shutter 😊

Use an external one that works with any dashcam. That’s what I did for testing. Internal batteries are a safety hazard.
