Upgrade Your Game Room with the Dowinx 6689 Gaming Chair

In this episode, we upgrade our game room gaming chair as we unbox, assemble, and test out the Dowinx 6689 gaming chair.
Ever since the start of COVID-19, I've spent more time working in my office, initially working 5 days a week from home, then three, two, and now one. In addition to that, I've tried to keep the KZread production separate from everyday family life, so I've wanted to edit more in this area then up in the family area. As such, my 8-year-old office chair finally bit the dust. For over a year I had been looking to upgrade my chair with a gaming chair, something that was more ergonomic, more comfortable, and quite honestly for a bigger guy like me, had a little bit more padding. Thankfully, the team at Dowinx has sent me one of their 6689 gaming chairs to see if it is an upgrade and improvement.
Available in a number of different colors and styles, the version sent to me was the red and black. Assembly was fairly straightforward, even though I did knock my camera down during filming. Yeah, I'm still an idiot in the New Year. From start to finish, assembly took about half an hour, and there are a few minor things in the manual that I did not notice during the initial assembly. There are rubber o-rings included to retain the footrest that I did not realize initially. Also, there are lock washers that should go between the screw and the armrest to ensure that these do not back out over time. I've gone back and installed each of these now, but having slightly larger illustrations in the instruction manual and make it a little bit more clear and transparent.
From a design and aesthetic standpoint, I love the way the Dowinx 6689 looks. The cloth appears almost like a leather carbon fiber print, it's really slick to see in person. And it's not just on the seat or the armrest, but front and back on the whole chair. It's an amazing little detail. I also appreciate the fact that the armrests rotate on shielded ball bearings. This reduces wear and tear between a plastic and metal part, especially with a component that should be rotated quite frequently. The lower lumbar also includes a USB-powered motor for slight massaging purposes. I was a little disappointed and the massager power, for me. It really didn't do much except for make my skin itch.
Once assembly was complete and I had a chance to sit in it I appreciated the fact that the base of the chair was wider than many other chairs that I had tried out. This was an issue that I had with my previous gaming chair, the sides of the seat dug into the side of my legs and was extremely uncomfortable for long periods of time. This could have still been a little broader, but it was pretty good. In fact, I edited this entire video while sitting in this chair.
For an extra level of comfort, the back of the chair can recline 170° and it also features an extendable footrest. The support bars on the footrest were tweaked out of the box on my unit, but I was able to straighten them out with very little effort. I do wish that the tubes that provided the support were a little bit thicker to reduce the bounce I felt as I have my legs resting on it. Overall this was, along the same lines as the vibration motor, kind of disappointing.
Why It Rox:
- Quality materials used throughout
- Ball bearing supported arms
- Carbon fiber style print
- Smooth wheels
- 170° of reclining
- Available in a variety of different colors
What could be improved:
- Somewhat expensive
- Manual could use a little bit of refinement
- Massaging motor not very effective
- Footrest has some bounce to it
Should you buy one?
For a bigger guy, finding a comfortable chair has been a bit of a challenge. I like having something that I can sit back & relax in & not have the pad dig into the underside of my thighs. The Dowinx 6689 is constructed using quality materials throughout and is quite comfortable to sit in. There are a few minor tweaks that I would like to see made, especially for a chair costing this much. Refining the massage motor and improving the sturdiness of the footrest would definitely take it to the next level. Level. But overall, I'm fairly pleased with this and it was very comfortable to sit in while editing this video, typing this content, & playing games.

What is this "working from home" you speak of? Ha ha Interested in this though as Lady Laci HAS wanted to get me both a better gaming chair and/or editing chair than the office cast-off I've been using for the latter. Bubble wrap snap!! BTW--great choice of music for assembly--gotta keep that mellow mood. Camera blooper--been there for sure. lol So, curious about that bent piece now. Assembly seemed straightforward--100% Tom would screw this up though. Some very high quality looking material at use here though. Seems like a good size too; roomy and comfy. The massage bit--curious on that too but seems to be about what I'd expect.

Working from home is when you work... for your employeer... at the place where you sleep... when that's not in your car. I really need a new tripod... sigh The bent piece was just tweaked, it was so weird. Don't take this the wrong way at all but, you being a bit, ahem, fluffier than I am, I don't know that you'd like this. I think the seat would hit you in the back of the thighs too much. This is bearly wide enough for my fatness. Thanks for watching and commenting, I know that's a laborious task these days.

@@RoXolid No worries--I appreciate the info versus my size. A gaming chair Laci's parents were kind enough to buy for me didn't work because the seat had this cradle bit to it--except the bits that came up around your thighs were held in place by metal so essentially you have this sensation of being constantly stabbed in the leg. Aw well, back to sitting on the floor then.

I haven’t come across a “gaming” chair that wasn’t junk and I can’t say this looks any different. It looks like it is mostly plastic with a stamped piece of metal for the tilt mechanism. Fixed width arm rests ( 16:20 ) and an inadequate lumbar support which the marketing material smartly refers to as a “waistrest” to avoid of any implications of being considered actual ergonomic support. The seat pan is too short for your legs and frankly it looks wobbly as you sit in it. Does it look OK for $250? Not when you can still find 2nd hand Herman Miller and Steel Case chairs for $50 more. Even with the pandemic. I appreciate your honest and detailed assembly video showing off the materials and even the bent foot rest. And as much as I hope people support you channel I do hope they don't buy this chair.

I don't disagree that a lot of other chairs are cheap plastic with thin padding, but this is a lot better than the others I've tested. The arms are not fixed, the extend and contract with the back as it reclines, hence the bearings. So while I respect your opinion here, you have some of the facts incorrect.

@@RoXolid at 16:20 you say yourself the armrests are narrow. I can see that they slide forward and back to accommodate the tilt but unlike a Herman Miller Embody for example, they can't be widened or narrowed for comfort. I can't speak for the padding but it does appear to be quite thick. The real question is if it retains that loft or if it flattens out. Not all memory foam is created equal and although they will all compact after use, some will age faster than others. Please do update us in 6 months about how you feel about the chair and if it has held up.

  • @RoXolid

    @RoXolid

By narrow I mean they are close to the centerline of the chair. The chair I have at the office I can widen or narrow the armrests as you indicate. And I completely agree, that some foams will break down quicker than others. The real tell will be future videos. If you see me continuing to use this chair you know it's doing well and holding up. If you see me not using it, then you know it didn't hold up.
