hi mate came across your video on the let turbo core replacement. I have a 2006 vxr Astra and have recently noticed random small puffs of smoke from the exhaust when slowing down thru the gears.Only happens so often .No loss in actual power as well.I have been trying to find out how to remove the turbo to check seals and any core play and seeing how you have done it,I have also seen that people seem to suggest when removing the exhaust manifold that you should replace the exhaust studs from the head.Is that essential.Hopefully you might reply cheers

Don't the small turbos spool up quicker and more fun to drive ? When I put a hybrid turbo on my feista rs turbo years ago I was disappointed with the power delivery off it I think it was a t25 hybrid turbo I put on it

Hi mate, slightly off topic of turbos but just a quick question to see if you have come across this with any of the z20let engines you’ve had, I have a really annoying oil leak coming from near the manifold area so behind the turbo. It runs down and pools on the top of the sump and sometimes a few drops on the road when parked up. I had the turbo off a month ago to change the chra and couldn’t see anything apparent at all. It’s getting on my nerves now. Lol.

I have seen people who have used too long studs in the head and it punctures the head and oil leaks from there. Are you sure its not the cam cover gasket running down the block

Aaron Unknown don’t think it is the studs as they were oem ones. It could be the rocker gasket but I only changed that in January but I guess it may not have sealed properly

Mikey B yeah the problem with the covers is if they have been over torqued in the past they will be warp. Also gm say sealant is needed over the pulleys and half moons at either end

So just to get this straight; you cannot get a k04 chra and put it inside a z20let turbo housing? The VXR turbo housing is bigger and therefore only fits the K04 chra?

ville viberg so first thing is strengthen the bottom end. The weakest part are the pistons over 300hp as they are not forged, while your there fit some steel h beam rods and a balancer shaft delete from the z20leh. Fit a good inlet cam and uprated valve springs to the head

Aaron Unknown I had the same question. What if I left the bottom end and head stock but added a VXR turbo, front mount, aftermarket boost pipes and airbox, some 600cc injectors and a tune. But then a clutch and fuel pump would also be required. Do u think this would still be a reliable build around 300hp ?
