Upendra Subba, also recognized as Upendra Bahadur Angdembe, stands as a versatile and esteemed figure within the Nepali community, celebrated for his diverse contributions as a poet, lyricist, writer, and film director. Together with Rajan Mukarung and Hangyug Agyat, he co-founded the influential Srijanshil Arajakta movement, championing the cause of creative expression. Hailing from Angsarang, Panchthar, Subba garnered literary acclaim with notable works like "Lato Pahad" and "Kholako Geet." Venturing into the cinematic domain, he collaborated with director Ram Babu Gurung to helm the widely acclaimed "Kabaddi" series. Noteworthy among his directorial feats is the highly successful 2023 film "Jaari," for which he served as both director and scriptwriter. Beyond his literary pursuits, Subba has authored poetry collections such as "Dada mathi ko Gham jun ra Gadtirka Raake Bhut haru" and "Hongrayo Bhok ra Pangra," while also contributing significantly as a screenwriter for films like "Taandro" and "Purano Dunga." His notable recognitions include the Padmashree Sahitya Puraskar and the National Award for Best Script Writer for "Kabaddi." Subba's ongoing dedication to shaping Nepali arts and culture is evident in his highly anticipated upcoming film "MANSARRA," slated for release on the 21st of Baisakh, both domestically and internationally.
