Deltarune really amped up the song complexity; I’ve tried to recreate Field of Hopes and Dreams, and it’s astounding how densely layered that song is. That song is mixed like it was made by someone who makes music for a living, and releases a song once every few months. In that song, the bassline alone is made up of three or four different instruments playing the same notes on different octaves. The lead? Two pianos, panned left and right, playing different components of the melody, and occasionally a center piano. With the drums, I have no idea. There’s kicks/snares/hats, but then there’s bongos somewhere in there, what could be a cowbell, and who knows what else. Deltarune’s songs don’t sound like a melody as much as they do like… an experience? Another example of what I’m talking about is the beginning of this song; the pan flute + piano is really the sum of its parts, in the same way that FoH&D feels. Isolated it sounds totally different, and when you put it back together you can *barely* hear the individual instruments, yet everything is playing an important part. Undertale’s soundtrack was fantastic, but Deltarune’s does show true compositional growth. Listening (a few times) to ‘Shop’ from UT and then to ‘Lantern’ from DR gives you a pretty good idea of this. Edit: I downloaded the project file for the recreation this person did of The World Revolving… holy shit this song is ridiculous.

The issue with that is mastering the track. Some of the instruments have overlapping frequencies, and they need to be properly adjusted to sound well together.

If I had a nickel for every song on the OST that had similar chord progression to Canon in D Major, I'd have somewhere between 10 and 60 cents depending on how loose you want to consider "similar".

If im not mistaken, i think the "pan flute" parts are intended to mimic a calliope. you can hear it in a lower register in the song that comes before Jevil's fight. very nice deconstruction though!

those drums are incredible, i'd love it if in the upcoming chapters toby made a few more metal-y tracks, they always slap

So Cool, Toby Fox always makes awesome songs, he puts a lot of emotion on each part of his works.

I would love to see a video where you stack all of these up one by one!

I wrote about this video in a journal entry for a college-level songwriting class I’m in, so now the teacher’s going to watch it. She likely already has by now. I don’t exactly know how to feel about that, but you got an extra viewer lol

I feel like videos like this show just how much goes into not just making music, but also making *GOOD* music! Even if it’s only a little of what goes into it!

The accordion on 0.5 sounds so freaking powerful. I've been listening for about half an hour now.

Please please could you do the same with Spamton NEO's theme?

Spamton Neo’s theme is almost entirely synthesizer, so there wouldn’t be much point in doing this with it.

The pan flute is my favorite, of adds that level of mystery and chaos. Love it

The bass, piano, accordion etc at 5:56 are a banger by themselves

I think the reason i really like jevil was because of his theme and story arc! He was an interesting character like seam and little to none was known about funky clown man! I knew jevil wouldn't return in chapter 2 which....succs (unless you have the devilsknife then-)

With the volume low enough, my brain fills in the other instruments, that's amazing

No matter what chapters Deltarune get but The World Revolving will always be a banger song

The chiptune going from ear to ear is actually really clever… It’s like the music is *revolving* around your head

God, that bass adds so much meaning to the peice. It really sets up that you're playing a game with a demented jester

Honestly i had no idea world revolving had drums in it until now I guess im to use to hearing it normally in its chaotic nature

as a huge ass music theory nerd this kind of stuff is heavenly

I dont know why the piano, bass, accordian, ect and the drums slaps it

Strings 2 hit hard though.
