My own experience shows that root canals often have deeper periodontal pockets than other teeth. The likelihood of bone damage in the vicinity of root canals is greatly increased. It often takes years before significant harm is apparent but it happens sooner or later with most root canals.

Now, if the dental industry can make these remedies more affordable to the masses, that would be great especially if it can prevent illness and improve quality of life. I have dental insurance and had to come outta pocket over 3K this year alone for dental maintenance and a root canal with a crown. I have a good City job and it’s still very expensive let alone for those less fortunate.

One does not believe to any doctors or dentists. We do not know what it is this tim. Maybe treating does not get them enough money. Now they have to remove teeth in order to put implants to get thousands. Then they will say the implants not a good idea for they go septic and so forth....🤣If they treat the root canal perfectly, with all necessary procedures🤔. But of course they are thinking of us, poor souls🤣. 😎

Over a week ago I had a painful toothache. 4 ibuprofen would not lessen the pain. (This is after midnight) An hour later the pain persisted, then my wife, a nurse, had 2 Tylenol with codeine...tried one, no effect, took the second, no lessening of pain. I'm desperate to get some relief and sleep. Started taking, every 30 minutes, 2 grams vitamin C--a mix of ascorbic acid and sodium ascorbate dissolved in water with one capsule of 600mg Alpha-lipoic acid. Within an hour the pain reduced from about a 7 to a 2. Took the combination one more time and finally feel asleep around 3am. I awoke around 7 and repeated the combination of nutrients and feel asleep for a couple more hours. From that day I have tapered back to about 10-12 grams of vitamin C spaced throughout the day with occasional 600 mg Alpha-lipoic capsules if pain increases. I had a dental appointment last week and X-ray showed a healthy root and bone area under an old crowned #19 tooth. Wondering if an infected tooth root can heal back with optimal nutrition and avoid a root canal? I really cannot afford it and have read enough to know about failed root canal procedures to be very cautious, especially now since pain is almost gone.

I've had an infected root canal for I don't know how long. I had a root canal done in 2015 and then again, same tooth, in 2019 due to reinfection. I had no idea that the root canal was, again, reinfected until last month. I went to my orthodontist to check if it was and he confirmed that there is infection so he referred me to an oral surgeon who will extract the tooth next week. I have had so many weird symptoms in my body that to me feels like infection in my body. Symptoms like headaches, muscle spasms, digestive issues, weird and burning sensations on my skin but specially on ny head and neck and neck pain (specially on the left side, same side as infected tooth). Despite all the scans and blood work done on me during the last year and a half nothing has been found and my doctors think it's somatoform disorder but I know there is something causing my symptoms. I notified my orthodontist and oral surgeon about my symptoms but they aren't concerned obout it spreading. Could this be from the root canal infection and how do I test to know if it has spread to other parts of the body? How do I treat it if it has spread. TIA🙏

I'm facing two root canals due to fillings from the mid 90's failing. I was told I have decay above the fillings. All my other teeth are mostly fine. I live in NYC so of course, everything is inflated here and 2 implants will cost me a small fortune. I've heard about the dangers of root canals for years. My insurance does not pay for anything beyond fillings. My health is important so it looks like I may go the way of implants. I've already been to one dentist and I'm not going back to him because he failed to fill a tiny cavity properly. I couldn't imagine how he would perform a good root canal and he was asking 3k per tooth. The new dentist I'm scheduled to see charges 1800 per root canal and he said he'd give me a discount. I've heard of a new kind of root canal called Gentle Wave that's supposed to be less invasive and supposedly clears out all the bacteria in the tooth. I don't know how much that would cost but I'm sure it's expensive. I'm also not really convinced it's foolproof.

Question Doc, Do you think this just applies to root canals? Reason being i have been dealing with chronic hives for 4 months. I am working with a combination of primary, dermatologist, and allergy doc. My dermatologist asked be three questions. Athletes foot? No. Jock itch? No. Any dental issue? Hmm? I did have a crown replaced after it fell out a coupe we 0:02 eks prior to this. No root canal though. But when he put the cement in the crown he quickly used something to disinfect the tooth and sent me to the moon in pain. Then quickly put crown back. Could there be bacteria trapped there?? Thoughts?

What about a tooth that has undergone trauma causing the pain, specifically prepping for a bridge causing the nerve damage/pain. There was no previous infection/pain. Do a root canal and add the bridge, then have to pull the tooth in future. Or pull the tooth and have no anchor for the bridge.

I've been using a home remedy alternative to root canal to drain a tooth abscess that I have. I'm applying a compress of an antibiotic wetted with dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). DMSO is a solvent that carries the antibiotic (baking soda) through the skin to reach the infection. I've been able to cause most of the abscess to eject using this method and there's no more pain. It is a slow process requiring some diligence, though. Any thoughts on this?

This does very little to fix the infected tooth... You only need a root canal either when you have a crack in your tooth or when a Cavity creates a hole in the tooth and reaches the nerve an forms a crack in the tooth exposing it to the environments in your mouth. The only possible way to save the tooth before it’s Rots inside out is to drain the nerve // pulp of the infection .. Swishing baking soda does nothing except remove waste that’s on the surface of the crack .. this would bring immediate relief of the pain but only for short periods of time while your tooth still rots away from the infectious fluids that have already entered the pulp.

You could always go ahead and try your method and when you think the infection has cleared, get a cone beam x-ray done to look at the root and bone and see if it completely cleared up. But you need to be sure the tooth is not cracked or otherwise compromised causing more bacteria to get in there and re-infect it.

Boy o boy, I have to let know my percents in their late 80s to die as soon as possible as they are ruining modern statistics. Me, too. I should be bad ridden by the amount of crowns over "dead" tooth I have beein carrying most of my adulthood lives. Do I like it? No. It doesn't look nice any more!!! But it does justice to functionality and to fill the space that I look decent( not beeing toothless). So, in my experience this is total nonsense. And this is a great platform for non- ethical people who love word UNSIMPTOMATIC to play with oyr minds!!!! Talking about implants, thank God they are out of reach of ordinary people, they have more negative effects on you then root canal treatment!

This sounds like a good man, but the problem is that dentistry is a bloody racket. Their second name should be criminal tooth technicians. Not doctors. They are not far from criminals even though they are very useful and needed. The fact that someone is in pain does not give you the right to literary force them to give you all their money or death. Is that not what armed robbers do? They charge way too much for doing way too little. If that is not criminality, somebody please correct me. And don't tell me that schooling is expensive because many of them are very greedy millionaires from robbing people who must either part with their cash or die in pain. I had a root canal done twice by people who just wanted money. It was done very fast and surely got infected. The same doctor insisted that a paid another $1500 to fix the bad job he did. I WILL NEVER DO ANOTHER ROOT CANAL especially now that the truth is out. Thank you.

Many people just extract the tooth and leave it that way because: 1. Implants are expensive. 2. you have to wait about 6 months after bone grafting in order to place the implant. In the meantime, many people may settle down without the tooth, so they end up not implanting. Dentists know that, so most of the time, they will push de root canal treatment.
