Definitely get the handcar... It's actually really fast, I've easily derailed on 70 km/h track. Useful if you get stranded somewhere without any money and you need to go to a station to get another locomotive. Caboose might be more useful though...

The Caboose whould be smart with the Ability to see the end of your train on the map also Sheeep

for the cats in the cab, here's an idea: they just bail from the cab and *book it* if something goes wrong/is about to go wrong (for boiler explosions) this way whenever you bin it (again), you don't have to cry for 6½ hours

I hope they start adding more cars with unique challenges. As far as I can tell the stock cars and milk cars don't really play any differently. They could do tall cars that have to avoid tunnels, cars that derail easier on corners, cars that are extremely fragile...

suggestion for khan race , spawn at the player home with a handcar , race to a town using the handcar, and from there pickup a load to further race to another destination. even if you have to force spawn a few passanger cars and an engine for them.

Hyce calmly talking about putting on a little bit of brake, clearly fully in control, while Kenosha rapidly approaches climax is quite an excellent juxtaposition.

I have a way to remember the shift pattern for the DM3. It is right, swap (swap position of left and right), right, LURD (left up right down), right, swap, left. It helps to do hand motions as if you are doing it in VR.

That job is not called a haul, but a sheepment

There is a San Andreas mod for Derail Valley by Tostiman. It would be fun to see Hyce do a review of it.

for the DM3 the last three gear ratios, and imo the most odd, go 3-2, 2-3, 3-3. It's odd but really good to know for trying to get the most out of it's power

World's most appropriate engine for the job, the farm tractor on rails! Also: GET THE GOSH-DARN CABOOOSE! So darn useful! Bed, flashlight and locomotive remote battery charger, fee and license machine, storage and lots of it... It's about as useful in the game as a caboose used to be in the real world, back in the day. In fact I'd say the caboose is absolutely ESSENTIAL to any playthrough. Get it ASAP! Edited because I accidentally mentioned bed twice and had to add some stuff.

With the DM3 I usually treat the left gear shift as a crawler-direct drive-overdrive and the right shift as just low range-medium range-high range that I work through. It works for 99 percent of the driving scenarios I have experienced.

I vote for the choo choo caboo, free fast travel to the back of your train, very useful for running long trains and needing to reverse. ALSO lets you very quickly charge your flashlight and remote :)

I hope that one day, there can't spawn any actual new cars, but you gotta do everything! If you don't shunt, then after a while you can't do any hauls anymore and that kind of thing, and you can't do any shunting, if you don't to logistical hauls. I would love to see that! With the cars obviously staying at the place you put them..

Not sure if someone got one in already about the headlight scheme for the DM3, but essentially your two switches spell a binary number (switch 1 is the low bit, 2 is the high bit; up=true): 00 off, 01 running lights, 0b10 (2) low beam, 0b11 (3) high beam. Forgot how it's mapped for the rear markers but you get a dim and bright marker just like the electrics and the hydraulic.

For the rear markers there's only 3 modes. For the front markers, there's 4 and is as you mention.

If you are running the DM3 light engine, I just accelerate in "4th" - so and both A and B gears in the middle. It gives you up to 20km/h and doesn't stress the engine at all. Perfect for moving around the yard and giving the relative beans... Obviously don't do this with 1200 tonnes behind you up a 2% grade haha (speaking for a friend... Obviously)

Love all your content Hyce! I think you should get the loco remote next. Then you can setup a diesel helper for a monster steam powered train set!

I find as a general rule of thumb, always pays to check, that yards are usually switched correctly for the first job you take. Even if you left recently on another job from another line.

Get the caboose. You can charge your flashlight at night with the remote charger, use the bed, and clear your fees while on the road!

also if you ever are towing a dm3 and the reverser is thrown the wrong way just put it in 1st, rip the stick, slam the independant let off the throtle and quickly throw the reverser. so during the time you are sliding the wheels the transfear case won't be stuck in a gear.

I think you should pick up the caboose with the handcar, and then once you get to wherever you left the slug, you buy the remote.

not sure if your aware but if you rev the Dm3 up to around 90 or so rpm it super cools. :) awsome video as usual.

Just restarted a career mode file with the new update and have been loving the farm now. Just pulled 625 tons from the farm to FF with the DM3. It was a tough one and dropped down to sub 5kph a few times but made it. Just to misalign a switch and crash into the bois at the very end.....

10:23 don't leave the DH-4 in gear with the reverser, it wants to creep in that direction like an car with an automatic transmission where you depress the brakes

Hyce I believe all four legged animals when in any type of transport want to stand up so when movement is felt they will stand still. No movement they will start to move around this is the point if horses are involved then that's when they get nervous

I watched enough of Hyce running the S282 that I tried a career freight haul last night and went with about 1100 tons for my first steam engine experience on derail valley (All the steel scrap). There were a few episodes of median terror as I forgot a few times that the steam engines are not self lapped and heard some REALLY spicy derail noises. I think they would be considered ghost pepper spice lol. I managed to get the loaded delivered and didn't explode! I went north from machine factory through the mountains for a delivery to the steel mill. I didn't make any money though because I was so busy running the 282 and getting lined into the B3 track at steel mill that I didn't notice that B3 was NOT empty and full sent it into a row of about 10 empty flatbeds at 40ish... There were no survivors, every flat bed in front of the engine was at 0% health. Task failed successfully I guess?

If anything get the caboose so you can charge your flashlight

i think it's possible to actually hydrolock a cylinder on the dm3. because it only broke the locomotive when i tryed to start the engine.

Legit, watching him get off the train, run in the other direction to throw brakes and switches, and just catch the train trundling across town really really makes me anxious.

Sheep meat is called mutton and actually everything you buy in the US as "Lamb" is in fact just mutton and if you actually want what most people would understand as lamb you have to go to a butcher's and ask for _new lamb_ .

To the question about adult sheep meat, I believe @greggorytame6672 is correct in stating it is mutton. I know this probably isn't one of the realism things they'd want to add in, but I feel like the jobs hauling livestock around should have much shorter time bonuses. The quicker you can get them to their destination and unloaded from the cars the better I'd think. Definitely don't want to sit still with them too long, especially hogs, they'll get to hot in the summertime if you do

Apparently on nexus, there's a mod skin for the DM3 that shows the shift pattern having 9 gears. As opposed to the steam community post that shows it only having 8 gear
