I have received quite a few questions asking me for an update regarding my Save Money: How To Fix Septic System video. Well, here's my update video three years later. Three years ago my septic system leach field was clogged and I was told that I needed to replace my leach field and spend thousands of dollars doing so. Prior to spending thousands of dollars, I ended up purchasing a $15 bottle of Roebic K-57 septic system cleaner from Home Depot, it fixed my problem.
Thank you for watching!

Good advice. I would add the following. THE most important thing, is what goes in the septic tank. In other words, be careful what you flush. Next, adding that product directly to the discharge part of the Septic tank is better than flushing it down the toilet. By flushing it, it goes to work on the solids in the input side of the tank and that is NOT what you want to occur. You want that product to focus on the weeping bed particles, not the solid particles that have dropped to the bottom of the inlet side of your tank. Next, don't pump out your septic tank each year. That is madness and unnecessary. Removing the solids that frequently also removes the bacteria and enzymes which is wrong. Every 3 years for a normal household is fine and if you are careful what goes down the drain, then every 4 or more years!

I use Roebic annully starting in July of 2020 and also installed a 3" check valve on my septic tank to keep water from backflushing into my septic tank after a series of heavy rains. And, I installed an aerator in my septic tank. (The aerator is actually a small fish tank bubbler. They say the large aerators will destroy your septic system.) We dug a french drain on two sides of the leachfield. (By code 10 feet from the closest finger.) We do not flush toilet paper down the toilet and we changed to 1 1/4 gallon toilets. The result so far has been that our 39 year old septic nas never worked better. I'm not sure which of the above is the reason that the septic tank is working so well, but I don't care----the bottom line is it works well.

We have some standing water in the areas where my husband has dug where the pipe comes from the septic tank. Ours comes from the house to a first tank, into a second, and then into 2 pipes down the yard. How long did it take before you noticed it working? We've been here 9 years and didn't know this type of thing needed to be done.

Awesome! I have a fully functioning septic system that I'm trying to make sure doesn't cause problems in the future, but I don't think I'll use K-57. And that's because Roebic's K-57 label says "After system is restored to normal use, use K-37 for septic tanks or K-47 for cesspools to prevent future problems". Sounds like K-57 is for emergency use, and that K-37/47 are for more ongoing use. So since I don't have any current septic issues, I'll probably use K-37 for my system.

While you try the Roebic, get an inspection from a company that doesn't have a financial interest, or maybe your county health dept. Then several quotes and negotiate. Septic co. are rife with overcharging since ordinary folks are not familiar with the system so easy to take advantage of.

Hard to imagine how this would help. A typical 3 bedroom house has a septic tank of 1200 gallons, so it is immediately diluted 1200/1. Presumably, you occasionally pump the septic, and they suck up any of the product remaining in the septic tank. Easier to believe the product put directly in the distribution box might help.

I’ve got a 10 year old home with two 92’ foot long cambered laterals. This winter I figured something was wrong as waste paper was building at the inlet of the tank. This was a new occurrence, the level usually was about two inches lower and fairly consistent even under high usage. Have used about 5 -64oz bottles of the K57. I’m about to use the “Drain and leach field” K570 now.. I dug 3 test holes on-top of the chambers, at the beginning and end of the runs and the water filled up up the hole to about half way, leads me to understand that my chambers are filled with water and its not draining fast enough!! It will go down but very slow!! Hope this helps next I may have to bring in the “Earth Buster”

@@CertifiedBoogeyman1601 yes. It worked! The K57 is a good product that works. A little about my system. I have a 1,000 gallon tank with 2 halves. 2nd half feeds the pump tank. A 1/3 JP pump moves the gray water to my sand filter, which fills a drain field pump chamber. Another 1/3 hp pump moves the water to the drain field. In an emergency when one pump which was incorrectly replaced I bypassed the sand filter pump and filled the drain field chamber. I think this clogged the drain field tube holes which slowed everything down. Once I figured out the system pump paths I used a few bottles of 1 quart K57, some days apart. I was manually running the pumps letting the K57 eat away at the clogs. Eventually everything started moving correctly. Since then I had a local septic company come out and replace my pumps (I had bought a pair of 1/2 hp pumps, and they said I needed 1/3. They also dug down and found my clean outs (4 sand filter) and (2 drain field) then pressure cleaned the tubes. Works beautifully now. Still waiting on the electrician. I recommend K57, it saved my bacon. I run a vacation rental on my property and depend on a well functioning septic. So good luck to you

The toilet is just the entry point for the product. The target is the septic tank. You only need to put in the amount specified for the size of your tank. That being said, I put it in the toilet farthest from the septic tank. I figure it can't hurt having the stuff touch base with all the ... crap... in the drainline!

Had an issue with a cracked pipe outside that caused a blockage no snake/jet could fix so it needed to be dug up and replaced. All in $800 for inspection and repair. Worst part about this stuff is the 24 hr no/low water usage. The longer you can go without using water the better but if you use any soaps or detergents it seems like it kills the enzymes. I bought probably a few K57 and 37 bottles. After i was gone for a week on vacation and came home my lines seemed more open however that was because it was slowly seeping back into the tank. Best bet is to see what your problem is. Get your line camera inspected first and go from there. You could have roots in a line or a clog that this product doesn’t fix.

I live in the desert Southwest and was first told to have the tank pumped every five years. I had the tank pumped after five years. The tank wasn't in bad shape but the pumper said "Why did you wait so LONG? You should have the tank pumped every 3-4 years. NEVER let it go past four years." My mom, on the other hand, lives in WA, and hadn't had her tank pumped in TWENTY YEARS. Her tank was fine too. What I've come to find out is that it comes down to the size of the tank/leach field, and HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE LOADING IT. The more people, the more solids. The more often the tank needs to be pumped. Case in point; I said my tank looked OK after five years. My son moved back into the house and I started working at home cuz COVID. The system started backing up into the shower two years after it was pumped. The same guy came and pumped it out. The tank was clogged with solids from the top to the bottom! The previous time, there was just a small "island" of solids floating in the middle of the tank. Pump sooner than later the first time. If the tank looks good, and its loading doesn't change between then and the next time, you might be able to go another year before having it done again. DON'T let this thing get ahead of you! I'm speaking from EXPERIENCE!

Most tanks they say pump 3 years. Buty parents lasted twenty years. Many factors, bigest is avoiding chemicals that stop the normal action. Found that when they pump they leave some in cant get all anyways. But it works as a catalyst to keep it working. I may try this product even though never have. Our tanks hasent been pumped for 4 years. Only reason was cause when bought realitor recommended. But when pumped had some solids but was ok. 5 bedroom house. Just wanted note most important is avoiding like bad chemicals. Bleach and lards the worst.

i basically have had a completely saturated backyard for nearly 10 years at this point. im no plumber or septic pro but since the home and subsequently the septic system is well over 60 years old it has issues. My family has lived in the home for around 25 years and have never done any real maintenance. (i rent but have a serious issue with the landlord, long story) landlord thinks i like tearing up our septic system on purpose or something, (im 32) i honestly dont know what his problem is other than being a 90 something douche bag which has led to several issues not related to septic. one being, im not "allowed" to have my car on the property because it is "junk" and he doesnt like it. again long story, anyway back to this, he gets angry and now has stated that any septic issue has to be paid for by me. we had to have our tank pumped in 2017 and again after a week long heavy rain storm in 2021(which is when issues started with LL) i have a sneaking suspicion that our field lines are either broken or are for sure clogged from sludge and what knot not allowing water to seep into the ground. Since he doesnt respect me as a person he doesnt care what i think so telling him i think the field lines are the issue doesnt matter. In 2017 he paid someone to dig a ditch all the way down my yard to "STOP IT FROM RAINING IN THE YARD." since the yard is always soaked he thought digging a ditch would stop rain from hitting the ground i guess. its only soaked in the back yard where are system is. anyway long story short will this product be a good place to start? if so how long might it take for any visible results? our back yard is 24/7 soaked whether it rained or not. i dont want anything that requires anymore effort than poring down toilet because im not digging up yard with the issues i have with the landlord.
