Update Review - Cell-Link by SpyPoint

This video is an update review of the Cell-Link by SpyPoint. See link below for product. This is after a 5 month use on the hunting lease. There was no feeder involved, the camera was at a new stand location along a deer trail. There were times that mineral and even corn was thrown out. Cell-Link is a cellular device that turns virtually any non-cellular trail camera into a cellular trail camera.

A good review Juddie! Definitely need good service for most cellular trail cams to operate efficiently! The cell-link is a cool idea to make the non-cell cam a cell cam (just gotta contend with that cable)!

Thanks bud!! Yes, anything cellular (camera or Cell-Link) requires you have good service for it to work properly. I honestly think a lot of folks this is going to work flawlessly, and when it doesn't the item gets a bad rap/review, when it was the device at all. Yes, sometimes you might get something that has a bug or issues, that is to be expected from time to time when something is mass produced. I do like the Cell-Link for the reason, it saves me from having to spend a lot of money on a camera with it built in. Yes, the ribbon cable can be an issue, but things can be worked out to where it isn't a problem. Just have to come up with some ideas. My idea was mounting the Cell-Link just above my box and hiding the cable partially behind the box. Is it 100% fail proof, nope, but it minimizes the chances of it getting ripped off. Well you explained it perfectly for me, thanks for detailed description of cell service capabilities, unfortunately it counts my properties out. I can just picture a bear seeing that ribbon cable flopping in the breeze and catching its interest……poof goes the cell link!!!!!!

Matt, I had bought it in hopes of having it on the mountain, I thought for sure I might get a minimal signal, but didn’t even get it with the other antenna. On the lease it seemed to work fine and I was able to place the Cell-Link just above my camera box, and hide the cable to where there wasn’t much visible. The 5 months I had it out I was lucky enough that nothing messed with it. Appreciate you watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA

Good review.. i use several of spypoints cell cameras the use LTE and i have been pleased with them. The external 12 volt batteries are great as are putting on a better antenna like you did in your review. May God Bless you and your families!

Thanks Jared. I have heard good things and bad things. Some of the bad things I believe is due to the cellular service in the general area. Some major carriers are good in some areas and weak in others. Since I am familiar with radio communications I know a little about how cellular phones work, it isn't nothing more than radio. Putting on a better antenna is almost a must in anything that uses an antenna. The ones that come with any device is the cheapest antenna that the manufacture will put on it. Thanks Tim. Yea, you got to have decent service for this thing to work. The link I have in the description to Amazon has it for 49.99 and I was just at Rural King getting a battery for the wife’s Jeep and saw they had them there for 59.99. They are a pain in the ass to set up and I sold mine. I never got mine to close without trouble with the sdcard. Good luck with yours, your friend Dan from Jersey.🗽🦅🇺🇸👍

Dan, I really didn't have a problem getting mine setup. In my initial review of the Cell-Link, I thought I was going to have problems, I was just too impatient, but then it started working. Getting the camera to close with the ribbon cable is really tricky, that I honestly believe is what the issue was with Jerod's setup, and I think he was impatient as well. It wasn't working for him so he just pulled it. Appreciate you watching and commenting Dan. Juddie - J & J TOA

Same here my friend. We have 2 of the original spy points that have worked well for 3 years but the cell link hasn’t been very good for a lot of people.

Well juddie I thought it was a cell camera lol. I didn’t know it works with trail cams. You hit it on the head. All depends on cell service. My wife has wanted to get me a cell cam for a few years. I keep telling her I don’t want one. But I think I’ve found one im going to try. Good luck this spring 🦃

Rural King has them for 59.99, was just there today getting a battery for the wife’s Jeep. I have a link in the description to Amazon and I think it was 49.99 there. Again, it depends on how well you have cell coverage. But, I like that I can use it with any of my tail camera that I already have. Appreciate you watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA

I would like to try one of the SpyPoint cellular cameras but just don't want to fork over that much money. The Cell-Link was the perfect thing for me. Once you get the hang of it, it works fine, if you have adequate cell service in the area. Like I mentioned, when I set mine up, it was a new area that we had put up stands, but we didn't put up feeders. I had the camera set looking down a trail that intersected with another. So I pretty much only got a picture or two when the deer were using those trails. Now when I dumped out some mineral and corn, the picture count went way up! Yes, just a few more months and we will be in the woods trying to get that ole bird to come to our sweet calls!! LOL Appreciate you watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA

Steve, that is exactly the benefit of having one. No trips to the camera site! They have two services, Nationwide and VZN. If either of them have good service in your area it will work. It doesn’t have to be the same service you use to work. Thanks for watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA

Another good thing about a cell link or cell cam is like my soninlaw said people would be less likely to steal it because it already sent a picture to whoever owns it cell phone.

Good review Juddie I wonder if wv will start putting restrictions on these type of cameras like the western states do

  • @JnJTrueOutdoorAdventures

Thanks Dan. I sure hope not!! I think those restrictions are stupid to me, if the what I was told about them is true. I do not see using a trail camera being a problem. They are a tool, nothing else and it helps me to know what is coming and going from my stand location. I can determine what deer I want to harvest instead of just shooting the first thing that shows up. Sounds like to me some anti-hunter introduced this stuff. I know I will try and I will also let others I know, to keep an ear and eye open to any sort of proposal that goes to our state legislation or the the game commission. This needs to be nipped in the bud before it gets started. Appreciate you watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA

That's sweet so I can use my old trail cam that uses a sd card and I don't have to get a plan for it to receive 100 pics a month? And for $15 a month I can get unlimited pics? My problem is I usually get a hundred pics in a couple of days with the feeder going but it's usually 100 pics of the same 3 or 4 deer. lol You may need to build a yagi antenna and put it at the top of your tree. Thanks for the review Juddie!

That is right Rick, you will get 100 pictures a month free sent to your cellphone. There are several different paid plans to choose from. Well, that is what happened to me Rick when Jerod and I took 50 lbs of corn out and spread it out in front of the camera. Once the deer found the corn I exceeded the 100 free and that is when I subscribed to get more pictures per month. When I pulled the camera I turned off the subscription. As getting pictures of the same 3 or 4 deer, well then you would go into your camera and adjust the setting for time between pictures. Instead of a picture every minute the sensor is tripped, set it for 5 minutes. Yep, need a booster on it in some areas for sure. Appreciate you watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA

very nice informal video as always. i would love to try one, but we have no cell service whats so ever up at camp, and if we did, i don't know if i could afford to get one, not the price of one, you saw what happen to one of cameras i had out, and that camera wasn't that expensive. i just think it would get stolen or smashed.

Thanks Dan. I got this to use on the mountain at deer camp. I was hoping it could possible get a signal, it didn’t, and then I tried again with the mag mount and still didn’t get any service. So I used it on the lease. Amazon has these for 49.99 to 59.99. I have a link in the description of this video. I was just at Rural King this evening getting a battery for my wife’s Jeep and walked to their sporting goods section and they had them there for 59.99. But, I know what your saying. I need to build a box for it like I do for my cameras to make sure it isn’t stolen or destroyed by a bear or someone. Appreciate you watching and commenting. Juddie - J & J TOA

Understand Keith! Like I said in the video I thought I might of been able to use it on the mountain at camp, it just couldn’t get any signal up there. Luckily it worked on the lease. I was able to place the Cell-Link just above my camera box and hide the ribbon cable. The 5 months it was out nothing messed with it. I guess I am lucky. Thanks for watching and commenting.
