Update on P2004 or P2017 Code - Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Open 2008 Jeep Patriot

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Little history: Upon getting the code, I took out the sensor, cleaned it, put it back in and it worked for nearly 10 months. Tried repeating the process yet did not work. Got a new sensor and it seemed mechanical part of sensor, the rotating shaft was the problem. However, the new sensor did not work either. Tried to take out the Intake Manifold, gutted it, cleaned it, put it back in, and it also did not help, despite feeling like runners were moving way better by manipulating them with my fingers. Gave in and bought a new Intake Manifold and that did the job. The new Manifold has been installed and working since about April-May 2018 (Sorry, late in loading video). Thus, as I stated in video, if there is any slight drag in the runners, do yourself a favor and replace the Intake Manifold. Although it's a $400 part, save your time and do it, I wish I would have. Plus, the dealership sells it with sensor installed as one unit. Patriot had about 140K miles, so maybe consider old Manifold may be out if your car has many miles. I was told that they last between 50K-100K miles since it is a plastic part... Anyway, hope this helps.

    Had to google this and found your video. This is the third time I've gotten this code. Seems every 50,000km it comes back again. Was really hoping there was a workaround and didn't have to replace the whole damn thing everytime. Damn. Driving a 2013 Patriot in case anyone is curious.

    Same thing happened and I replaced the actuator then several months down the line same code popped up. Long story short I replaced the whole manifold and it worked for about 4 years and now I'm back at it again. I do have about 170k on my jeep.

    Excellent video. I found your style and manner of presenting information very refreshing and feel good - I did not care that you were not up on the technical jargon you were simply presenting a narrative of your experiences in your own voice and had excellent visual aides to show and tell! Bravo! Well Done! The design of these Intake Manifolds are frustrating! The cause of failure is the integration of metal parts with this good for nothing composite plastic material in this area where the fuel injectors are spraying fuel and air mixture is at its most important stage for combustion! Naturally there is going to be high carbon build-up! The runners bind-up easily! Cleaning the carbon is a challenge and depending on the process and chemicals used will affect how the runner control functions going forward... The computer will notice a failure to maintain the proper Air Fuel Ratio and throw the code. Where on anyone's else videos has anyone even come close to so easily and simply managing to hit the nail square on the head? You did it very nicely...

    What were the symptoms that led you to change it? Or was it just the code? My car will drive and then loses power for a second and then comes back in limp mode. Push gas pedal down and get high RPM’s with limited response. P2017 is 1 of the codes and I’ve already changed all the plugs and coils and it continues to happen

  • @JorgeInTheTube

    @JorgeInTheTube

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Tony, so it appears this code also popped up during the same time when we began to have the intake manifold problem. I believe these 2 codes are one in the same. If I can remember correctly, the performance was partially affected, yet the car was still usable. The main reason for doing the work at the time was emissions: it was time for smog check and codes needed to be cleared. If your own Patriot feels fine thus far, you should be fine until you are financially ready to make the expense. Hope this helps. Thanks for commenting on my video! Good luck!

    Mine just popped this same code P2004, of course tax season would be when this happens lol. Looks like I'm in for a few hours of labor again. Any tips? Did you replace the throttle body while you were in there? I know the patriots have problems with them, looks like intake tube needs to come out, anything else that might make it easier?

  • @JorgeInTheTube

    @JorgeInTheTube

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi Colt, yes, never a dull moment. So seems throttle is working well and it's a 2007. Few times I've been there, I've noticed throttle body is very dirty. Cleaning it should suffice. Do inspect it and make the decision at that point should it look pretty bad. Hard to get in there, so if price is cheap, I'd probably change it too. My advice is give yourself ample time, wiggle wire harness out of the way carefully by loosening mounting points to avoid breaking a wire. Loosen radiator fill spout braket and try to tuck it under or over to give you space to wiggle the intake manifold out. Can't recall if throttle body got in the way. I didn't take it appart from the manifold until after assembly was out of car, but feel free to rake it out first if it helps. It's hard but doable with right tools for the reach. Good luck! A pain, but fun when you're done. Oh and dealer had the best price, but shop around 1st just in case!

    @@beccamarie783 I feel you, $400 is a crap load of money. That's why I tried to clean the old one, but it failed. Sadly, intake manifold has moving parts in it, so it wears down...it sucks. If your car has more than 90-100k miles, I would save the trouble. Especially if you tried the actuator (sensor) and still get codes... One question: did you clear codes before you started the car "after" installing the new actuator?
