    Stephanie, if you can find a pool and swim or even tread water 3 times a week. It will make it easier to move pain free. The more you strengthen the hip muscles the happier your hips joints will be. Diagnosed over 40 years ago. Treading water has been the most effective therapy.

    Best wishes for Percy's speedy recovery. I do not know if you will actually see this comment but Steph I want you to keep in mind that surgeon's only know how to do one thing and this is to operate. (RN here) to them there is no other alternative. Yes oestrogen-arthristis is a long term degenerative disease. However, you do not have any excess weight, which is a total bonus for you. The things you could start to implement now that would cause you more tears than giving up biscuits, cheese, wine and all the other yummy food you love, you need to ditch your skyscraper heels! The angle high heels force your hips and knees to be at, and the actual load bearing distribution is wrong from the natural way it should be. Flats and low heels for the majority of the time and the high heels for rare rare occasions. Gentle walking, or actually non-weight baring exercise in a pool is great too. Also better seating, no really low seating. You don't want to have a hip replacement until pain and mobility get so bad that you have no other option, and the replacement is a step up. You are not there yet and with careful management, you may never get there.

    As a retired RN, I agree with all of Angela’s suggestions. You want to try everything before doing surgery. Definitely give up the heels except for special occasions and invest in good supportive flats and trainers. Hope you can find the time to take care of yourself 😍😘

    Stephanie, Gerry, and Philip do DIY projects filmed for Channel 4 that will be shown in the fall. We will see all the extra footage then on CD. Chateau Diaries isn't just a DIY Channel and never has been. 18 years ago, a round of restoration was started, and the B&B was established. Stephanie has always shown daily life, including travel. Stephanie has moved most of her travel to two other channels except for chateau visits. Stephanie uses her vlogs and the B&B to pay most of the people who work full time at Lalande. Natti, Amaury, Kristie, Maria, and Philip work full time. Others are part-time or volunteers or work contract projects. If you want to see only DIY, there are other channels to watch. Stephanie was a night owl, staying up for years editing, sewing, and uploading the vlogs from her car. A faster network, Philip editing, and a manager for the B&B mean she is more of a morning person again. She and Philip often work all night on projects, so I don't understand your complaints. ❤

    Stephanie, you just described the exact same scenario that happened to my left hip. Although my pain started at 18, which I blame on being an athlete in school. At 50 I was told you're too young for a hip replacement, at 52 I told them my quality of life sucks... they did it and it was a BLESSING!!

  • @zoefoster1873

    @zoefoster1873

    I've had two hip replacements due to osteoarthritis, first one aged 45 and the second aged 57 (I'm now 67). The difference to my quality of life was incredible, and the operations weren't nearly as awful as you might expect. Not sure that giving up bread etc would make any difference to the arthritis - once the hip has begun to deteriorate there's not much you can do other than try to keep it moving until you get a replacement. And my surgeon told me it is pointless to take supplements such as glucosamine sulphate.

    @@ladycharlotte8693 what are you sniveling on about? When people have excruciating pain, doctors do what they must. I was told I was too young because on average the implant in the hip is good for about 10 years. They didn’t want to have to do a 2nd replacement at age 60!

  • @staceyschmidt3149

    @staceyschmidt3149

    10 ай бұрын

    @@corricattI would guess that partly what she's getting at is that with dietary change, exercise/stretches/weight-lifting, etc, your body can heal itself to the point it doesn't require surgery, but that most doctors want the surgery because $$$, and most people want the quick fix, not the harder, long-term life-style changes. When a person starts to research what the Western world's "fashion" does to our bodies, particularly as relates to our feet, it's a real eye-opener. With proper footwear (no pointed toes, plenty of toe box space, and no heels), a person's feet and legs stay aligned, which in turn is going to make a huge difference in the knee and hip joints. We're taught to wear totally improper footwear from day one, and it doesn't get any better from that point. As Stephanie is seldom out of heels/pumps for days on end when she's traveling, and often in heels at home, it's likely her joints have been dealing with abuse for years.

    Perhaps it's time for her to stop wearing the high heels she likes to wear a large part of the time, and switch to shoes with a supportive foot bed. I switched to Birkenstock's stylish strappy sandals at age 40, a good, structured foot bed aligns the hip bones properly. Got orthotics for my athletic walking shoes. Also got food allergy testing and gave up wheat and gluten. Nightshade foods contribute to arthritis, such as tomatoes, potatoes and eggplant.

    I freeze a lot of the tomatoes I grow for cooking in the winter. Just cut them up, or not, put them is a freezer bag into the freezer and voila! Ready to use when needed.

    I freeze whole tomatoes for the same purpose No need to blanch and skin them. The skins rinse off when you thaw them.

    If you have lots of freezer space, that works. If not, cook them down with onions and hot peppers to make a delicious base for almost any recipe that calls for tomato sauce. It may seem intimidating to can, but it's really pretty simple and canned food lasts several years stored in a cool place.

    Oh my goodness the joy of watching your Mummy running at breakneck speed ! That was such a treat. It must be torture to be away from your love Phillip and he from you. Absence does make the heart grow fonder. I am sure Percy will be delighted to spend time with you once he is awake and energized. Nice to meet Percy's son and a surprise to hear he lives in San Diego, which is my hometown!

    I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis at the age of 45. When I asked my doctor why did this happen to me, he replied, "it's just your age." Unfortunately forties is when it all starts.

    it’s nutrition, and hormones, and lifestyle…..doctors treat symptoms, more than root causes, I’m sorry they told you it’s just aging….how insensitive to you….it’s hard work to keep your health, been there, but small to medium changes can really help. Been there myself. 😊

    Stephanie...When our horses reach 10 we start applying DMSO on their joints to help keep them from developing arthritis. It works so well people use it even though it's not approved for human use. ❤️🙏
