upcycling clothes with rit dye remover.

My most recent declutter left me with a bag of clothes that I still liked, but never reached for because of their colour.
So here we are, trying to give these old clothes new life by removing the colour with rit colour remover. The clothes today are silk, cotton, and rayon.
Hope this video finds you well!! Take care,
xo,
gab

I loved the original dress, its beautiful imo. I mess with all kinds of dye projects over the years. When my sheets get stained, I dye them to distract or to incorporate the stain color if the fabric is still good. My cats make a mess of many of my fabric thingies. The thing about working with dye is surprise. You really don't have absolute control, and the dyes and removers do their things. And you can always re-dye. You did a great job thanx for the inspire!!

Thanks for showing us how it works! I would have tried to conserve the color remover, too, by adding extra items. Good to know what can happen!

This was so helpful thank you for explaining the process so well & showing the results in detail, especially showing that it’s better to not mix colors together 🙌🏼 personally I love how the jeans look stone washed almost but overall great video 😇

I really loved this video, thank you for sharing! I'm trying to change the color of black cotton pants and was excited to see you tried Rit with the black Levi jeans! I learned so much :) Guess I'll just try bleaching

Those pants came out super cute. I'd wear the green take top for a couple of weeks & then run it back through the color remover & have a whole new tank.

Right? It kinda smells like that Nair hair removal stuff😂 yuck. Having a house full of running fans definitely helped though! Did it turn your stuff completely white??

Wow the trousers turned out great! Glad it didn't come out splotchy, I was worried about that lol. Good idea to try and make the clothes work instead of just donating them!

Super helpful!! I’m going to try this on a vintage garment I own that I’m obsessed with but it just isn’t my color and I bought it two years ago and haven’t worn it yet. Did you find that the hot water method shrunk any of this items?

as long as you don't agitate the material, hot water shouldn't shrink it (at least that's true for wool). cottons might shrink a bit but from my experience they'll always let back out with some wear or if you get them wet again :)

How faded were the Levi’s after you bleached them? And then how much did they fade with the color remover? I’m trying to achieve the same look those have with a pair of pitch black pants. Please help

Most of the fading actually happened from leaving them out for a few months in the sun haha. I think it all really depends on the dye the company used, so it'll be different for every pair 🤔 I think the rit woud've done more had i put them in first?
