Ғылым және технология

As part of the BBC #In the Mind series Fergus Walsh visits the Bristol Brain Bank, one of a network of ten brain banks managed by the Medical Research Council. Here he shares some facts and figures about what makes the human brain one of the most complex structures in the world. The report contains detailed shots of the human brain from the start.

it doesnt even matter how many connections (transistors) we can come up with in a computer. if we don't understand how a brain utilizes those 1000 trillion connections, we won't be able to ever replicate human thought even if we have a cpu with 1000 trillion transistors. current cpu architectures are binary, which leads to absurdly simply and deterministic logic. the human brain is certainly not binary. neurons do not generate thought, emotions, and memories based only on the presence or absence of electrons. there's different types of cells that respond differently to certain electrical and chemical signals. each of these cells has the capacity to change roles, reproduce, or die. the number and ratios of these cells is forever changing. each cell has the capacity to generate its own electricity and operate at myriad of different wattages, independent of the overall system. each cell has the capacity to "remember" certain signals and events in the system. itd be like having 1000 trillion psus, 1000 trillion motherboards, and 1000 trillion memory modules built in to the 1000 trillion transistors. theres cells that release hormones which change the behavior of cells around them. it can cause cells to multiply or die. the count and ratio of specific types of neurons grows and shrinks and constantly changes. its very much a living system. a cpu is not equivalent. theres a fixed number of transistors. transistors will not live, die, nor reproduce. theres effectively only two types of transistors in a cpu. and both only concern themselves with the same purpose: allowing or denying electrical currents. there are only two states an individual transistor can be in. logic is binary. they are not designed to respond to chemical reactions. they do not have the ability to remember anything. the electrical current is uniform, and is provided and regulated by a single source (the pins on the motherboard). there are no hormones that change the role of an individual transistor. each one will only ever allow or deny a current. all of these variables create an infinitely large and infinitely complex number of states in the human brain. computers will never be able to replicate this until we have exact schematics of the human brain. to say that we can "replicate human intelligence" using any quantity of today's cpu architectures is ludicrous. it's not a simple numbers game. it's how and when the connections are formed, changed, or broken, and what is the lasting effect on the overall system after a connection has been formed, changed, or broken. its a question of algorithm and procedure. one that we know very little about. even todays most advanced AI can only perform tasks that a human brain designed them to do. things like facial recognition is merely an algirithm, or a series of steps that a human brain designed, and programmed a computer to execute. sure, the AI can develop more efficient derivatives of this algorithm by itself after the algorithm has already been seeded by human hands. however, the AI will never be able to seed unique algorithms or invent new concepts or ever have an understanding, appreciation, or opinion as to why the algorithm needs to be performed in the first place. it does not have a choice whether or not to comply. it does not have a concept of self, or conscience, or any motivating factors that drive its behavior such as emotion or the will to live. its a lifeless reflection and extremely convincing facade of human thought. it will never be more than that until both a major breakthrough of the biology of the human brain is made, and a major overhaul of computer architecture takes place -- something more similar to, or perhaps more advanced than a quantum computer

What I really wanna know is if our brain is wayyy smarter than a supercomputer how can it not do some equations that a supercomputer can do. I get that you would need to learn it but computers don’t learn it, they make it up so how can we not do it.

I personally dont think treating the human body like this is a good idea .we cringe when we hear about cannibalism or people who keep body parts outside of a lab the fact that there is a brain bank turns my stomach.I believe respect is needed both during life and after death.

I personally dont care what someone does with my body when I die. If it can help science I'm all for it. But in reality, three guys could play monkey in the middle with my brain and I wouldn't care one bit. Not like I'm still using it.

This was consensual and this is being done for research. This is literally inching us slightly closer to solving some brain diseases while also teaching the public. Sorry but I do not see what you think is wrong about this, are you thinking these guys are going to eat the brains or something? Like. what?

@@gpt-jcommentbot4759 no ,there was no mention of eating theses brains they called it a brain bank not a restaurant.i personally as a born again believer in Jesus Christ do not think the body is to be cut open or harvested or even operated on .If it's your time to die it's your time to die if you have a sickness seek God about it .I personally can actually think or any brain disease, injury to the brain yes or damage through injury yes but an actual disease that in not mental (more with the mind than the actual brain )I can think of one.

@@gpt-jcommentbot4759 I said the human body needs to be respected ,not cut up, and stored or displayed openly or even used for research or for educating the public . were all going to die one day , Jesus Christ has died for our sins so we can have eternal life .some people think life in this world is all we have and so desperately want to solve every problem here or find a cure ,,,no one can cure death ,,,but Jesus conquered death .the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
