I’ve tested this thing for a weekend, and it’s an awesome unit! I’ve been thinking of tire carriers for a while now and the offerings a few years ago just didn’t meet my criteria. Back then I drove a Subaru, and the Wilco hitch only used a pin to secure the swingout. Quite honestly, a latch would be plenty secure for daily driving and getting groceries, and a latch is much easier to operate than a pin. Also, all the shaking and wobbling I saw with the Wilco tire carrier was a turn off, and another reason I never considered a tire carrier. The RIGd swing out, seemed to hit all the boxes. Well, that’s what I thought. Back in January I had the opportunity to hang with my friend @suba_ruski that was rocking a Wilco on his Subaru Outback and my friend @revving9k that was rocking RIGd on his Outlander GT. It was a great opportunity to compare the two tire carriers side by side. The RIGd unit wasn’t completely superior. The departure angle was noticeably worse with a 6” hitch receiver extension going straight back. The beauty of the Dirt Complex tire carrier is that it doesn’t have the flaws of the current offerings. Not only that, but it’s the only hitch tire carrier that has an auto locking mechanism. The way I plan to use mine is I’ll only use the latch for daily driving and running errands. It will be easy one hand operation, especially with the auto lock on the swing out. I’ll have the lanyard pin handy, and will use it when I hit a trail. I’ll incorporate the pin insertion part of my tire air down process. I’m excited for this Swing out! Can’t wait to get one attached long term!

Def the best swing I’ve seen so far! Love the little details like departure angle.

I'm so glad I found this, I'd come close to getting the Wilco a few times but there was enough things I disliked about it that I never did. This solves all of them and then some and is over $1000 less that the full bumper solutions I was considering. Plus I have a 4th gen 4Runner and I love that the testing for this was done on one and I can see exactly how mine will fit. The long wait will hopefully be worth it!

Okay, I’m so impressed by this product. I figured out who this is aimed for as well. I was comparing the cost of this beast vs a steel bumper with swing outs and it hit me; this is FOR people who don’t have the option of a steel bumper with swing outs. Or people who don’t want the constant weight of a full setup. So part of the price is for the hard to reach market, AND the already plentiful market that wants the fun, but not the weight on their daily. To that; his makes complete sense. If I didn’t have a steel bumper already, I would have gone this route. Tube bumpers too. Damn, I should have waited.

AJ - your trail swing rocks! your personal responsiveness to questions is second to none, the speed of shipping (especially these days) simply amazing. Love my trail swing, rocking 34's. keep us updated on improvements you make. nothing else compares ( and yes i did customize the wheel mount - welded my studs and shortened the length by 1.5" at a local Fab shop in Tulsa Ok.) the license plate bracket is well thought out and easy to wire tap in to your tail light power. if you are considering a hitch mounted tire carrier, dont buy anything else - this is an exceptional product

Great way to address most, if not ALL, of the issues other companies deal with when it comes to aftermarket tire carriers, etc...

Was about the checkout my cart on a tire carrier I saw it OEW, then I saw this. Sometimes procrastinating works to your advantage.

My husband looked at all of them and this one looks like the best by far. We have one ordered for our GX470. We had the guys at Toy Tec install a 3" lift, new rims and tires. This will be a great addition. He spoke with AJ and said he was really cool, answering all our questions and suggesting the left swing out version for the GX. Can't wait to get it!

Have you considered including blank sections for fitting reverse sensors? (moving existing ones backward etc)

Really nice design. What keeps it from bouncing around in the vehicles hitch? I think there may be a feature you didn't discuss or is missing? I'll have to check the website. UPDATE: I went to the site and found it, the "Anti wobble hitch mechanism keeps the tire swing from rattling in your vehicle tow hitch."

Can we get a vid with the accessory hitch? would love to see if you can fit a bike rack as well.

I want one that doesn't have a tire on the left sife, but has the cooler/table option on both sides, and still allows access to the back of the vehicle, and the ability to put a hitch step in for my dogs to use to get in and out of the back.

You can definitely add a hitch step. You can easily mount a table on the back side and even on the front side if you just remove the tire mount!

Any pictures of one of these on a fj cruiser? Great looking product.

I am considering this as well, but I think it would block the rear sensors in the bumpers. I have a 2020 Jeep Cherokee KL Trailhawk and I don't see a single picture of a current Cherokee KL on the site. I did see a pic of a white 4Runner (I think and the sensors of the right half of the bumper were completely blocked. Also, I have yet to see any stock rear camera solution other then buying 3rd party one. Not a bad way to go. Another thing I wish is that they sold a simple plug for the 4-pin plug to power the relocated license plate light. Maybe a pass thru for when you tow. Oh.. and a cover for the pass thru to keep it from filling with water.

Requesting a picture with a tire mounted on the Tail Swing in the Cherokee folder. I think that was the only one without a tire mounted? Pictures of a table mounted on the Trail Swing would be nice. Info. on which table works best too. Thanks. Looks like a great product.

We don't have one yet with the spare mounted but we did have a couple Cherokee orders so we'll have some soon! The best table will be our table. Stainless steel and comes with all brackets to mount it! Thanks for checking it out.

@DirtComplex Oh I am happy I found this. I don’t own a RAV4 or a Subaru SUV’s. But to make a comparison of the RAV4, I own a 2015 lifted Scion xB. And I need these. A 5th wheel and tire set would be perfect as my spare. Not for just badass looks, but also for Incase if I have a flat tire or anything. This is the way to go. I just need a trailer hitch that they already made for 2008-2015 Scion xB. And with this, this is a major goal. To me it’s a must have. This will be on my list for when the time comes.

Yeah but it won't fit a 33 or 35 size tire. Same as my f150, the tire is too big.

You have about 7" on a 4th gen 4runner. Most Jerry cans are about that size. There should be more space on a GX but I have exact measurements.

How are you. We are currently undergoing SAE testing requirements for the higher Class 4 10,000 lbs. The current tow rating is 7500lbs.

Yes! Trail Swing HD will fit great. If you want a more compact solution the standard Trail Swing will also fit. You just have to watch the hatch near the license plate bracket at 180 degrees.

I drive a Tacoma. I already have a bed rack and a RTT but, plan to build more. I'll need some real sliders eventually as I start venturing deeper into the woods. I live in Rancho Cucamonga so I look forward to supporting a local company.

Ikr, no bumper manufacturers makes a swing out for f150. Exp-one thought about it but decided not to. Only options are swing out hitch and this one take the cakes once they get another hitch receiver like the rigs.

*WARNING* Do not buy anything from these guys. They have the absolute worst customer service. I ordered my Trail Swing 5 months ago with a 10 week lead time and I had to ask repeatedly for any update as to when I should be expecting my order. I’m in no rush but I would like to know what’s going on when my order is 3 months late and my bank account is $1800 lighter. When they finally got back to me I still couldn’t get any timeframe, just some story that they stopped production locally and were in the process of getting a new producer up and running (not reassuring). So I go on the website and see that they are now running a sale so I ask if they could apply that sale price to my order. My unit still hasn’t even shipped so I figured that would be an automatic yes from them. Nope! I get told they can’t discount the Trail Swing… It’s literally on discount right now. I’m done with the way they do business so I told them to cancel my order and only then do they offer the discount and as consolation they offer me a t-shirt… Like after all I’ve been through with these guys I’d want to advertise their horrible company on my back. I’m going with another option and I just want to let other potential buyers to be aware of what I’ve been through so you can make the best decision when spending your hard earned money.
