UP 4014 Big Boy Steam Locomotive in Hearne, Texas August 2021
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I chase the Union Pacific #4014 "Big Boy" Steam Locomotive as it travels Southward between Mexia and Hearne, TX. This locomotive is a piece of history and I was honored to be able to see it in person and experience the sights & sounds of the early 1940's.

The Big Boy was also the name of a braizer grill back in the ‘50s. This Big Boy was the pinnacle of power for steam trains!
Worked for UP Railroad and got to see UP's President trains inside. I was asked to go get supplies and food for kitchen in for train. It's a beautiful train inside. BIG BOY 4014 stopped by October 23, 2019 and it's amazing that it's been refurbished and looks fantastic. I'll always miss my time at Union Pacific Railroad, our Yardmaster recently died and will forever be missed.😔

Excellent comment Maximus and I appreciate you watching!!!! I'd never seen an older steam locomotive in action before and Big Boy blew me away!!! I wasn't expecting it to be so huge and loud! And American steel is solid as a rock! Wish we'd go back to manufacturing stuff here in the USA. Thanks for watching brother and thanks again for the comment. Cheers!!!

@@TROYCOOKS Sorry I didn't answer after your comment, I'm a female, not a man🙋♀️ anyway...I also got a special invitation to board the train that has a console like that of Star Trek space ship. Forgot it's name. It's all types of computer equipment and has amazing capabilities. I got to sit in the captain's chair 🤯 and fantasize about beaming up some hot guy from my past knowing that it was my fantasy. I've gotten to ride in these trains too. Maybe because I was LIKED and TRUSTED by head of Union Pacific Railroad bosses. Miss my time at Union Pacific Railroad. I can still hear the trains go by and blow their horns late night missing all my friends / coworkers 😞.
That sucker is huge! The sound of that horn is pretty wild. 🤘

It was a sight to see brother Joe and the video doesn't really do it justice. I think the Big Boy horn blew out my mic! LOL It was very loud and a HUGE engine! I was so close to it at the Bremond crossing that I got some spray from the engine hitting my leg. Yeah, it was hot, but it was fun to be that close. LOL Cheers brother!!!!

T-roy I LOVE steam locos
I live in Belton, TX. I drove down to see 4014 roll into Hearne, and waited until the crowds had dispersed that night to get pics of her buttoned up and resting. I drove BACK down the next morning to see her leave, and ran ahead of her to catch the crossing at Texas A&M where my daughter had shot a little video for her dear ol' dad back in 2019. A true American icon that I have been enamored with since I was a schoolboy. I NEVER gave any hope to seeing one run again! By the way, on 4014's leaving Hearne, I was shooting video from further up on the bridge embankment. I'll post it. I mighta caught ya on it!

Awesome footage, that's a huge engine! If you ever make it to Yukon Canada, or Skagway Alaska you'll have to ride the White Pass & Yukon Rout (WP&YR) narrow Guage railway. They use an old Baldwin steam locomotive pushed by diesel engines through the mountains. The train follows the most scenic route from Skagway Alaska to Bennett Lake Yukon and back. It is a beautiful trip. Thanks for sharing.

Hey dear , how are you doing!?
Great look at the old beast. I couldn't help but wonder though why they had a diesel electric with them. And I know it's just wrong on so many levels but I found myself think " wouldn't be cool to convert that big boiler to one heck of a big smoker. Come on, I can't be the ONLY person thinking that. 👍🔥🍻 😁
@TROYCOOKS
2 жыл бұрын
Heheheeee, I'm with you on making that boiler into a smoker Victor! LOL I hear they run the diesel in the train for emergencies and they definitely had one as the Big Boy got close to Baton Rouge, La. They couldn't find a watering hole for the Big Boy, so the diesel had to push the Big Boy to a place that would allow them to suck up about 40K gallons of water so they could make it to New Orleans. There is footage of that on KZread. The Big Boy was lucky enough to get water in a very small town called Addis, La which is about 15 mins from where I grew up. I think it's on RailFans channel?
@victorbenner539
2 жыл бұрын
@@TROYCOOKS hey thanks for the reply. I knew they would have a logical reason for the diesel electric, I just didn't think of water issues. Wow 40k gallons of water? Heck that would make a great smoker also. T Roy take care of yourself and stay well hydrated. 🥃
