It’s a downburst for sure. You can see the wall of rain fall from the sky, creating the vicious winds that follow. If it were a tornado, the strongest winds would be in the middle of the circulation, so it wouldn’t be able to hammer down in a straight line quite like that. Hard to explain. Stunning video though!

The strength of the wind (pretty much destroying the tree across the street) and the apparent shifts in its direction do make this look like it could be a tornado - but the lack of damage to the fire station, and most of everything else, must mean this was a microburst.

You miss a little detail: in that situation,showed in the video,it misses the typical twisting motion of a tornado 'cause wind just goes in one direction... So it's a severe downburst. Anyway the most powerful tornado can even exceed 300 km/h of wind speed and i don't think that in Germany this happen so easily. Here in Italy we had an EF4 tornado(a beautiful mesocyclone) in July 2015 near Venice and... Well,many brick houses were literally wiped out.

WTF?! Alter Schwede!!!! Holy moly!!! Ich bin ergriffen und fasziniert zu gleich. Grandiose Aufnahme!!!! Vor allem dass auf dem Balkon scheinbar alles heil bleibt und 10 Meter weiter "alles" zu Nichte gemacht wird.

Danke fürs Reinstellen. Bin schon ein paar Donnerstage alt, aber von Froschhausen hab ich noch nie was gehört. Gruß ;O)

Definitiv kein Tornado. Das ist ein sogenannter Downburst. Kalte Luft fällt aus der Regenwolke nach unten und breitet sich vertikal aus. (Fallwinde)

Nice microburst! That tree got denuded completely. Impressive!

This was a microburst, not a weak passing tornado. The damage shown to apartment and car windows was from the tree torn apart by straight-line winds. Which is why damage was all on the same side. Most tornadoes in the northern hemisphere rotate counter-clockwise so if there was rotation the wind and rain would've came back at the camera as it was passing by. Very little rain or wind came at the camera indicating no rotation. To the laymen, microburst are often mistaken for a tornado.

I'm not a meteorologist, but I'd have to agree. If that was actually a tornado, I'm pretty sure the windows they were filming through would've been blown out at some point. Still a very scary storm though.

Microburst. They can have winds as strong as an EF3 tornado. This is a *nasty* thunderstorm.

Genau sowas hatten wir 2019 in Mannheim,war der Horror ich wohne im Dachgeschoss, mein Kater .lief Amok ,ich dachte das Dach hebt ab.danach war mein Stadtteil verwüstet ,Bäume lagen um ,Dächer beschädigt....ganz schlimm ,Straßen geflutet .

That’s a micro burst. A column of cold air sinks- very fast, and when it reaches the ground it spreads out. Very fast.

nah tornado winds tornado passes near or directly overhead rear winds hail you can especially tell by the wind directions changing before and after they step into cover

@@liiiliiiliiiliiil nah that's a microburst, a tornado wouldn't just change wind directions directly from left to right, it would be a rotation and winds would return to normal direction. You can tell its a microburst because the strong winds are coming from the right, and assuming the winds were originally coming from the left, then the winds returned to normal after it passed. Plus, thats a lot of rain even for a thunderstorm that can produce a tornado.

Jagut in Alzenau und Kahl den Wald hats ja damals beim unwetter auch ne komplette Schneise durchgezogen alles kaputt.. Unser vordach ist weg gerissen und die Straße bis zur Hälfte der Wade überschwemmt..

So sieht also ein Hagelschlag aus. Heftig! Ich sage nur: der Baum! Aber danke fürs Aufnehmen und Posten! 👍

Was it a tornado or what they call in the USA a derecho (with storm front with a band of very strong winds (160km/ hour) from one direction. Tornados I have seen normally cause more sudden and explosive damage.

Yes this is a microburst and not a tornado, everything is explained by the direction of the wind which remains uniform, in one and only direction, often accompanied by hail, with winds sometimes similar to tornado and rarely lasts more than 5 minutes, ;)

I've been an amateur chaser for years now, from the rotation it could very well have been an EF0 or weak EF1 tornado, microburst is also possible but they normally don't last as long as this did, I personally think a tornado is more likely as you can clearly see the backlash winds that trail behind a tornado as it passes

You need a few more years. Microburst and I've seen them level a forest about 1/2 mile wide and 6 miles. Center of that one was the 3 minute tree strip. Almost straight down because of the buildings. It was a blow of about 120 mph. Burst. That would have put a 747 on the ground from 3000 feet very easily.

It was a downburst, I live a little to the northeast of Seligenstadt, the supercell hit us 20 mins later and left a trail of destruction behind. You can clearly see that it was a microburst because all the trees between where I live and where this was filmed fell down in the same direction. Another thing is I saw the front directly coming at us with immense speed but very little rotation which makes a tornado even less likely

Who says downbursts cannot last so long? Climate Change means that we get more extrem wheather conditions…

The way the wind was blowing I wanna say EF0 tornado, or downburst, but it could just be a very strong wind speed.

If that was only a microburst downdraft it's the strongest I've ever seen on video. They don't normally cause damage to structures or denude giant trees.

Joseph Astier several years ago there was strong downburst/microburst in the Netherlands (in the town of Hoogeveen). It blew down entire rows of trees, big and strong ones.

@Mark Hammond Ein "Micro Brust" kann genauso Windrichtungswechsel aufweisen. Vor dem Zentrum/Höhepunt weht der Fallwind beispielsweise aus West und nach dem Zentrum/Höhepunkt aus Ost. LG

Sehr heftiger Downburst. Das Donnern vom verursachenden Gewitter hört man(n) erst wieder, nachdem der Sturm nachlässt. Und... Der Baum hatte einen natürlichen Friseur :D

Das war auf jeden Fall der schlimmste Sturm bei uns bisher. Der Wald ist immer noch kaputt. Von Dreieich über Dietzenbach bis nach Seligenstadt. Bin mir auch immer noch nicht sicher ob es ein Downburst oder doch ein Tornado war wegen den Schneisen im Wald

Das war ein schöner Downburst ( Schwere Fallböe) die können aber die Kraft wie ein Tornado haben.

I didn't see much in the way of inward flowing air but there was definitely an impressive straight line wind component to this storm. This to me seems more like a microburst.

@@musicianluca Hurricanes don't act like this. They don't bring hail, for example. They also last a very long time - hours. This was a microburst, so when the uploader says "tornado", he's on the right path.

I would say this was an embedded tornado in a storm line, you can see the wind coming from the right, then as it blanks out white you can see it change direction, then go back to the right. Plus the hail like that...usually hail comes before a tornado in a supercell, but in a line it happens during the heaviest part. Of course, I don't know what the radar looked like at this point, but just looking at it that's what it seems. In any case that was certainly an ef-1 tornado or equivalent wind. Scary stuff, hope everyone's ok.

Yep, it was, you can clearly tell by looking at the aftermath cut the way the trees in the nearby forest(s) fell down, in the same direction, from west to east, strongly indicates a microburst

Meine Güte, da denkt man sich, heftiger kanns kaum werden, sagt sich das Unwetter: ''Du willst mehr? Du willst einen Nachschlag?''. Der Baum vorne bekam ja einen schnelleren Schnitt als eine 5-Minuten-Terine fertig ist. o.o Aber super Aufnahme und bleibt in der heutigen Zeit gesund! Grüße aus Baden-Württemberg. :)

Ich werd den Tag glaube ich nie vergessen. War als es losging in Hanau und wurde von nem bekannten angerufen. Bin mit dem Roller nach Hause gefahren und musste ziemlich komisch durch den Wald durch weil die Straßen wegen Baumsturz nicht zu gebrauchen waren. Der Anblick der niedergehagelten Felder, die ratlosen Menschen, ein Dach in der direkten Nachbarschaft welches weg war. Jeden verdammten Sturm hab ich dieses ungute Gefühl das uns das Dach wegfliegt.

Wie krass! Der Baum! Und die Straße ein Fluss, und alles mögliche kaputt ... Wir (Mörfelden-Walldorf) hatten dies Unwetter etwas vorher, hat nur wenige Minuten gedauert und auch viele Schäden angerichtet, z. B. mein Dach teilweise abgedeckt. Zum Glück wurde hier im Ort wenigstens niemand verletzt, bei Euch?

Fast im Gesamtmenge Kreis wurden Rollläden und teilweise Fassaden durchlöschert

Auch von der reinfolge des Wetters (zuerst starker Regen gefolgt vom starkem Wind und danach fette Hagelkörner) geb ich den Englischen Usern recht. Sieht echt so aus als wenn ein Tornado durchfegte. Wie andere schon schrieben kann auch ein microburst oder ähnliches sein.

Was für ein kranker Downburst. O_o Vor allem die Hagel-/Regenwand dabei. Als wenn 20000 LKW Gleichzeitig komplett entladen. Fenster zerstört, Jalousien perforiert und von dem großen Baum ist ja auch nur noch die Hälfte übrig. Gleich nochmal anschauen. ;-)

When you see a strong winds with a patch of dark grey color in the same direction of winds you are close to a Twister or a weak F1 tornado.

01:10 - Hui, da hat aber einer beim Fön die Stufe 3 mal angemacht ... 🙄 - Spaß beiseite - Echt heftig! Allein, wie der Baum bei 05:32 aussieht (völlig gerupft und kaputt).

Ich denke auch, dass ist ein Downburst. Obwohl zu dem Zeitpunkt hätte ich auch an einen Tornado gedacht. Vor allem als man plötzlich gar nichts mehr gesehen hat, denkt man schnell an einen Tornado, der gerade an dem Fenster vorbeirauscht. Nur ich glaube, dass das Schadensbild anders ist.

Ein Tornado war es nicht aber dafür ein windstoss mit 150 km/h tolles video👍
