lol now it is readable....

i have been crocheting for over 40 years and i still use the method my Grandmother taught me of avoiding those chains altogether and using - 1hdc- instead. when you get back around to it it's easy to crochet into and afterward it's hard to pick out in the finished product. lazy creature that i am i hate fighting with the top of those dang chains thanks Granny :)

+Teresa R i wish i could do a video as i think this method would make a lot of crocheters lives easier - unfortunately i have not the equipment to create that. i don't know if this will help at all but what i do is at the end of a row where the instructions say "chain 2 and turn" i chain 1 and turn, then in the stitch directly under your hook (the one you normally skip if you chain 2) i do 1 half-double crochet and continue the rest of the row following the pattern instructions, then do the same at the end of that row. i find getting into the top of the half-doubles at each end much easier than a chain 2 and for me a half-double is easier to make and looks better than the standing double crochet which i always mess up. sorry i couldn't be more help. best wishes That Old Canadian Lady

Awesome idea! I'm relatively new to crocheting, but I'm picking it up pretty fast and I love it, but I hate getting into those chains so much! And your so right, hdc would look better as well! Life-changing! Thank you! :)

I have started doing this in my beanies and I love it! It looks great, thank you! :D Also, no matter what pattern I crochet, I never join on the chain, I always join in the first stitch & pretend the chain isn't there. It eliminates the gap usually seen in beanies. :)

Thank you for the instructions on the invisible seam. My main problem were the gaps in my hats. This information is helpful!

this is exactly how I do it and works so well.. its especially good when doing stripes.

I get your point , however, I wish you would do a video starting from the “very beginning” with the Magic Circle, let’s say 6 sc’s in the Magic Circle, then start the Increased rows……..I would be so grateful and maybe other newbies would benefit by that video…..I am a “visual” learner……….ty so much

@@Meladora1 that’s ok you are not a fan of the Magic Ring….then, how do you “start” your hat???? That’s all I’m asking….can you show us how you begin the hat and then proceed with the Invisible Seam???????? Thank You 🙏🏻

I have a pattern that says chain 2 (not counted as stitch). To join like you show. I am. I even put a marker in the first stitch so I don't put it in the chain 2. I can see a small seam. I also noticed I'm crocheting inside out. Any idea why for either? I have to go right into making petals for my cocoon. Should I turn my work right side out first? Before you start your petal it says to turn work. Now should I be working from the wrong side (after turning my cocoon right side out)? When starting a petal you work in bl. Thanks

I can see where your joins are at, but I'm going to give your method a try anyway. I'm working a white beanie, aka chemo hat and I've already thrown yarn away because I hated seeing my joins all the way up. I saved what yarn I could and I'm currently doing one row at a time, finishing and darning in both ends of the yarn each row. It's not a quick method so I don't like it. It's not very noticeable using multi-colored yarn, but using a light colored yarn and seeing where each row joined just infuriates me.

I know saying it's invisible is a bit of a stretch, but it sure cuts down on the visibility considerably.

@@Meladora1 I agree, and I appreciate your method, it truly is the best one I've come across and I printed out the written instructions. I'm going to stay away from solid colors until I'm happy with my results. Ever since before the COVID protocols were in place at hospitals, I started making little beanies for infants-especially preemies, but after making a couple hundred of them I needed a break. Then I started making bookworms for older kids in the hospital who enjoy reading. It was an idea from a sister-in-law who taught and every year she made one for each of her students. I can't begin to say how many of those I've made, and like I said earlier, now I'm working on Chemo caps, just oversized baby beanies, lol. I wish I could work on them today but I have to take my car in for some warranty work and it's -3 outside. I guess I'll start my car in about 15 minutes to let it warm up before hitting the road. I will be so happy to be back home again working with my yarn. Have a wonderful day!

This happens when there is less yarn as you continue to crochet in rows. Try to rip out a row and redo it, crocheting more looser and see if that helps.
