The Psyop in the normal size basically has one of my biggest irks with mid to larger folders, the finger choil taking away so much edge potential by making like 1/4 of the blade explicitly finger choil. In videos it looks like the mini and regular have the same exact cutting edge, but the mini to me looks like what the regular should've been, which makes the mini more appealing to me personally. I basically have a personal huge gripe with finger choils taking away so much cutting edge, some designs do it better when the choil is implemented into the handle construction itself and a tiny bit of the blade, but when it's solely implemented on the blade itself on a folder, it needs to go out back like Old Yeller in my opinion.

I agree, I think the choil should be way lower on a lot of knives. If you want a choke up spot it should be integrated into the handle imo.

I agree, but sadly this isn't something that I think they can get around since I believe it has to be there due to the position of the compression lock. The Vosteed Hedgehog has the same exact cutout for the same reason. The cutting edge to everything else ratio when fully opened is way unbalanced on both the Psyop and Hedgehog, but for some reason, they are still 2 of my favorite knives lol.

Preferences. I'm the exact opposite. A nice finger choil makes a knife for me - I love pinch grip and a nice finger choil adds the best level of leverage during pinch grip. I would wager that you enjoy sharpening choils > finger choils - that's essentially the difference in these 2.

Just be aware the mini psyop is very small. It's pretty much identical in size to a mini bugout. Also... be aware that the action is worse on the mini psyop when compared to a mini bugout. They just didn't do the tang geometry quite right. I have one.

I hate choils in general, there’s rarely a reason a choil needs to be that big, how often are people truly using it? Its just easier for the knife company to save money

I watch nearly every episode. I really appreciate the work you put in on your vids and reviews. I know you don't usually do multi tools, but I just got the Leatherman Micra, and I have to tell you, it's about the most useful multitool I've ever has. I've had it for about a week, it's hanging on the case of my Leatherman MUT, and I've used the Micra almost every day, and WAY more than I've ever used the MUT. AND THE KNIFE IS A CHISEL GRIND!!! Just saying, it's worth a look.

I bought the CF version mini psyop listed HRC to be at 60+2 and 1.77 ounces crazy light for sure, definitely a bugout slayer imo. 💯🔥 its In route to me, can't wait

Nah HRC is 60 + or - 2. So technically you can end up with steel at 58.

Just got mine in the mail yesterday, I went with the carbon fiber scales with the blue accents. Got a quick question for you, was yours difficult to thumb-flick open at first? I've been fiddling with it since I got it and it seems like I just can't get enough "oompf" to swing it all the way open with my thumb, was hoping you might have some tips if you had the same issue at first. Keep up the great stuff, looking forward to getting your custom knife when it becomes available!

Re: the change in lock, in the Vosteed group on Facebook the designer chimed in and said the change in lock was necessitated because there wasn't enough "room" for a top liner lock when everything was scaled down, which makes sense.

@@bigbl8717 ah i see, thanks for explain it, i got mini nightshade and when i fiddle with it sometimes the knife fly off my clumsy hard... so i really look forwarded on compression button lock but the normal Psyop is too big for me, i like small sub 3 inches knives for open letter :P

@agitodclxvi no problem! It did sound like there are plans for smaller knives with the top liner lock in the future, just the Mini Psyop wasn't a good candidate. I'm a 3" blade guy myself, though mine is because of state laws. I bought the Vosteed Hedgehog as soon as I could for that reason and love it! I almost wish I'd waited for the Aluminum scale models, but I do like the blue/black G10 one I got.

Yeah I can see that. I mean, I wouldn't call it a copy or a ripoff of the Bugout since the Bugout design elements were taken/influenced from thousands of other knives in history as well, but I can agree that it has that Bugout/CJRB Pyrite neutral handle shape with an extremely vanilla, yet effective, drop point blade. I was really hoping I was gonna see a $54 price tag on this thing because on the surface it appeared to be another 14C28N, micarta and steel liner Vosteed model. So that $135 price really was a kick to the 🍒I will admit lol. So technically it's only $35 cheaper than the standard Bugout too😂

the psyop knives would be awesome buys if they didn’t list a FOUR HRC spread for the steel. that is indicative of shady heat treat to me, you shouldn’t be getting that large or a range of hardness between batches if the heat treatment is good and consistent
