I see a lot of comments saying thay the SMB1 flags are actually used in the game for checkpoints. The icons on the flags are the same, but the form of the flags ARE different. These never get used in the game.

I like how oddly serious diagonal pieces of floor become for Nintendo in Mario Maker 2. As you said, they literally made the game’s internal name Slope and they showcased slopes as the very first new thing back in the first MM2 trailer

I still can't understand why the heavy stone block was IN THE STORY MODE but then not a usable item in level creation!!! 🤨

@Bryan Vickers: it is just a harder version of carry the power block clear conditon so it would have been considered repetitive clear condition, while the rescue toad should have been part of the main game and not just part of story mode, but I can also see why they did not implement the toad rescue in the main game, because they could be extrem trolling potential with rescue the toad, also with rescue the toad this would make level more cheesable in multiplayer because you have 4 character 4 player, and plus the toad to rescue so you could make jump you normaly can't with 4 player because of the toad being rescue

@@SuperNickid no it was not repetitive, the way it altered Mario's gravity and jumping height could have had so many interesting interactions. For example, what would happen when walking or jumping into a twister while carrying the heavy stone block? How would it interact with the trampoline? Could it enable fast falling out of the air or underwater? So much potential for creativity.

@@bryanvickersHaving interesting interactions is not the main goal. Creating a good gameplay is. Sure, we love to have more than less but it is not easy to imagine the stone being actually used in significant ways that would justify it over just having a POW block. The mechanic about saving toads that you have to scort is a different story. That would have easily created a new type of gameplay. My take is that probably it was a nightmare on multiplayer mode and decided to ditch it. multiplayer
I really like these types of videos. Not just for Mario Maker, but for any game.

Yeah, but they ended up releasing updates for new course parts, and if they wanted to add some of the others, then they would've done so in some other update. But, 3.0 was the last content update.
It’s sad that the Farris wheel was removed but probably hard to manage

The Ferris wheel actually isn’t based on the one seen in the final level. It’s based on one of the background objects seen on the world bowser world map.

For the unused file called "shell" I would assume it's probably just a base template that was used to create all the other shells
I thing they should bring the cut stuff in the game, MM2 sales are lowering, and a new update could perk it back up like MK8 (even though MK8 was fine even without the update)

My guess is that Mario Maker 2 was just destined to have low sales. Many people probably didn't see the reason to buy the new game if they already had SMM1.
in the beta version there is a change in the color of the tiles of the snow version of SM1. Before it looked gray and not purple like the final version. If you want to check it, watch the first direct of SMM2 at min 6:10. I comment because it seems that nobody noticed

Knowing they actually seemed to be planning to add the Mystery Mushroom, Lanky Mario and most of the course parts/enemies to every style but cut them just makes me even more upset about now Nintendo handled the game. We were robbed.

same here the one thing i would bring from smm1 to 2 if i could would be the mystery mushroom costumes (and the title screen letters doing stuff when you tap them, but if i had to choose, it would be the costumes) but now i feel like they've been ripped out of my hands instead of just not being added
The items that are listed in the course parts list, are probably just the items that can exist in a course, not just the placable ones

I'm so sad that they never added the Mystery Mushroom and Weird Mushroom into Mario Maker 2. Fingers crossed for if they ever make SMM3. He is officially called Weird Mario by the way, not Lanky Mario.

For the Mystery Mushroom and unused part sounds, maybe they were holdovers from Mario Maker 1 not intended for SMM2. Reason I think this is possibly more plausible is because it’s more than likely SMM2 was built off of the first. So carry overs in the files makes absolute sense.
The original design for the twisters were actually modeled after enemies in the series called "Foo". These enemies appeared in NSMBWiiU and NSMBWii (I think).

3:38 this model isn't actually unique to this game, as this is a direct port from the ferris wheel seen in the background of world bowser.

i think that the "shell" item might be an item that you can go inside like a temporary blue shell because you can do it in SM3DW
Modification dates does NOT mean that is when something was finished.. it is the last time it was modified, or accessed..
Remember when in SMM1, when a big Yoshi egg hatched, the Yoshi would be already running? Yeah, me neither.

Honestly the green ferris wheel is an element that I feel is missing from the final 3D world Airship Background. It's been one of my least favourite designs, because after a while the blues and purples just feel a little flat and boring, seeing the mockup of the ferris wheel in the theme, I could imagine how this could have really added some interesting to that theme
There's quite a few unused stuff in here which would've made the game even better. Sometimes i wonder why these stuff go unused.

Nine minutes in, Smashy is going over "Removed Items" Chances are, the identifiers they claim are for placable items that were removed aren't for removed placable items but for the items themselves. When you jump on a Koopa, and it changes to a shell (or is kicked out of a shell in certain styles), the object\entity identifier likely changes to a new object\entity to alter how the object\entity behaves. Just because you can edit the game's code to allow placing the object\entity by its identifier via the user-end level editor doesn't mean that's how the object\entity was ever inteded to be spawned and could just be a by product of how the game calls objects\entities in general. I'm not saying they were never planned to be placed via the course editor - Just that I believe it's highly unlikely to be the case.

If I had to guess the Yoshi and shoe items and such are probably in the game as separate things to denote their roles in a level. An egg spawns Yoshi, the goomba shoe spawns the normal shoes, the builder power up probably calls the object for the crates. Stuff like that. Same with fireballs and otherwise. Probably objects just called when necessary. It’s easier that way for the game. Although the fireball could potentially be something placed like in the super Mario bros 1 castles where the fire would spawn in getting close to bowser.
I like how the automatically generated chapters made a timestamp to perfectly skip the product placement
I saw this today and thought that this was an April Fool's video. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it wasn't.

@@gargamel6480, hey, would you like if I show you something you won't ever unnotice? On the Super Mario World title screen, there's a weird-looking black pixel on the left side of the letter W. Go look for yourself if you don't believe me! Also, it's worth noting that the words "Mario" and "World" together spell the word "OWO" in case you didn't notice already!
This video shows how much lost potential this game had. I'm very disappointed with Nintendo.

The mystery mushroom was likely not planned for MM2. It’s more likely that MM2 was built off of MM1 and therefore content from that game (lanky Mario, mystery mushroom, etc.) were left behind

The smb3 castle texture is actually used it’s castle in night (also you can swim in air)
Skinny Mario is used in Mario Maker 1 either when you knock on a door in Maker Mode, or randomly get a skinny mushroom during gameplay.

What I’d like to see in Super Mario Maker 3 is 16-bit SMB style, 16-bit SMB3 style, unused content from Super Mario Maker 2, and Super Smash Bros Ultimate enhanced NSMBU style.
this angers me so much, a sandbox game should not have any unused stuff, especially if it stops getting updated

those “removed parts” aren’t removed (except for maybe “shell”) they’re still in the game and most we’re NOT planned on being placed separately, ever heard of object replacement? those parts do that in game

The ferris wheel was prolly from world bowser in 3dw, y can see it when u stand at the start clear pipe in the back left And banzai bill chase was finished on my birthday, that's my new brag
hey, the parts are probably used but they arent shown in the menu because you would still need a part for the game to load it, so like for example when you place yoshi egg, it uses egg part until it turns into yoshi and then it changes into yoshi part

The ferris wheel in 3d World looks more similar in the hub world for world Bowser than in the last level.

I question the idea that just because you can smuggle working items into and out of 3D world that this means that they were possibly going to have perfect compatibility. A simpler explanation is that working efficiently as possible, they endeavored to make all styles share the exact same engine, and then provided switches and variables to define the differences, so basically they "could" quickly implement a 2D object into 3D world by just creating the 3D asset, they might have to define variables for things like Mario's speed when interacting with the object, which could be different depending on mario's physics, or it could just default to one setting (which would explain the dash blocks.

If it’s so easy for them to make objects compatible with all versions, then why don’t they just do it. Mario Maker 2 would be so much better if there weren’t so many limits for seemingly no reason
