@Real Aiglon that's not really the problem. The problem is with stupid so called grand masters that f*ck up kata to please their hollow ego. For example here with the 4 consecutive punches, they introduced a sliding after the block. Now try that in Bunkai. You will see that they tried to make it work in Kumite. Anybody with a modest knowledge of karate knows that Kata is about self defense. In self defense the distance is very small. So no need for an extra slide here. Especially that you go in with the Tate Shuto, so you are closing even more in. Could be for example stopping a Mawashi-Zuki at the elbow level.
@DragonDreamVNY

Sliding with the FudoDachi might make sense with some of the "floating root" concept in Goju or those systems who use Sanchin Dachi alot. We almost never see fudo Dachi in Unsu these days because everyone does the Sport version (some even skip the third punch). I think it's nice seeing an older "variation" of the Kata. Unsu of 100 years ago looks nothing like today's. And 100 years from now will look different again (hopefully with a Reason). I always see Yahara (JKA) Unsu as the epitome (nicknamed Mr Unsu in his competition days) but it's fantastic to see other associations or styles. Funny when you see application-wise the opening are just a trip and a thumb gouge (in lay man terms)😅 yet Competition folk get caught up to make it so snappy and fast (holdup while I strap myself in with resistance bands from 4 directions 💪)

Probably from before JKA became worldwide - Keio and Waseda university are the elite universities. But TakuDai were the ones who sent instructors abroad and popularised their syllabus. Japanese (and Chinese) were known to change the Forms over the years. Every 5 years, different variation or some head instructor prefers some way. Not a bad thing. Even bible as dozens of translations.🎉 Also in their NijuShiho, cool to see no Side kick (I am told Asai Sensei changed it and added the side kick, then everyone copied him or made it part of the official JKA way)

I cannot honestly say this practicioner has reached a high level of expression. This old man found flaws both in his Kata, and more importantly in his Kime. His rhythm was not correct. His timing was off. There were moments in the form that were correct. However, the overall feeling I received. Was one of a soda left out too long. That has lost its sparkle, and whose flavor is flat. Never the less. Thank you for sharing. This student must be gently guided to, ''Kokoro no shiko kara kodo no chowa.'' And find inspiration to continue his training. We are honored to witness such wonderful Karate Do. Again, please accept our sincere gratitude. Overcome the darkness. Return the Light. Funikoshi got his karate from Yatsatsune Itoso, who got it from Sokon Matsumura. This is Funikoshi's Shotokan. In our family tree he is my great great grandfather.
never saw this on Okinawa... perhaps a Japanese creation?

So if your wife cooks and you tell her, the taste is bad, does it mean you can cook better? You can certainly have a solid opinion about something without being able to do it. Stop the crap -.-

This is not right.
pls don't learn in this style for fucks sake. Funakoshi's student? You are kidding me , he can be gichin's grandson
