UPDATE TO ALL: This afternoon, March 16, 2022, Minot Police Department arrested 34-year-old Nichole Thomas Rice, Anita’s former roommate, for her murder. It took 15 years, but it looks like justice will finally be served. This is a hard one for our little community as both young women were well known to most of us, but I’m personally hoping this will help her family find what peace they can with the situation.

Tammy Jackson The word “seem” as you used it, and by its definition...feelings, or actions less assertive or forceful, leads me to believe that perhaps someone in her family are keeping a secret sort of speak. Just an observation on your word usage. This may be just me.

The roommate's alibi was strong because she was visiting her parents' house. If her parents confirmed her alibi, does that really make it reliable? .... Family cover ups are not a stretch.

I agree with you completely, you can just see it in his eyes. He loved her, not a romantic or obsessive love. He probably wants to help remember her and solve her murder to like repay her for all the light she shined on his life.

The fact that that the mother of the roommate went to the grieving mother of the victim during her daughter's funeral to voice her concerns about her daughter being interviewed makes it pretty obvious that their whole "at my house for the weekend" alibi is bullshit clearly self preservation at it's finest.

I think the roommate had her killed. They didn't say she was raped so i doubt the roofers did it.The janitor was cleared and since he killed himself , i think he would have left a guilt note.

The part that made me tear up was when Anita's mum said "I didn't protect her, I promised to protect her." Mrs Knutson, if you ever read this, you should know that the reason Anita was such a loved person, that so many people liked her because she was an amazing friend - is because of how you raised her. You were obviously a wonderful mum to her and raised her to be kind, considerate and loving. It isn't your fault that there are other people, who werent raised so well, who are filled with hate and jealousy and end up taking that too far and ending someone's life. The fault of Anita's murder lies with the murderer, not those who loved and cared for her and raised her to be the beautiful woman that she was. I hope you receive some peace. God bless you. Anita told her cold Mom that she was scared, and she was afraid of her roommate and the guys that were coming in. Her mom did nothing about it, and she knew Anita was in danger. Her mom was lazy. It was the father who did all of the responsibilities. Anita was working two jobs and the mother didn't help her. The mother could have got her out of that environment when Anita was in danger and she did nothing about it. She is a horrible mother.

I thought the uncle was so sweet and a few weeks later they had the rapist and murderer and it was that very same uncle that killed and raped the kid. You wouldn't have ever known because of the way he acted. You just can't tell based off of actions.

Exactly! I am a mother of 3 and watching this angered me so bad. Those parents knew how dangerous that room mate was and even know it had gotten physical, and they didn’t think to do anything with that? I would have been at my kids’ apartment, helping them pack and move and find somewhere else for them to live if they didn’t want to temporarily come back home. No sense in any of this. And poor Tyler. He cared so much about her and her parents publicly destroyed him.

My gosh, it’s one thing to lo lose a child but to have to find them is just beyond words. I pray the family finds answers. This is sad all around. May she RIP.

The maintenance man noticed the screen and killed himself almost a year to the date. I think that's a little suspicious... they can do familial DNA tests and see if it matches the blood on the screen. I hope they get more clues to solve this homicide, it so sad that a young woman gets murdered like that. RIP

Did the police ever do DNA on the maintenance guy? I don't remember them saying that the did. Especially after he killed himself it should have been easy to get a sample DNA.

Tyler's weird behavior is actually quite normal given the type of person he is. He is clearly a loner. She was literally his only friend. He percieved her as a best friend because of her kindness. He was attracted to her. We all handle death differently. For someone so tied to a person he would take it harder. They were friends in those awkward years of life,and he was attached to her. Unhealthy yes,but that does not make him a killer.

Well said, and very accurate. My ex and children father is just like Tyler... He is very socially awkward, weird even... But he wouldn't hurt a soul. If someone told me, he hurt anyone,(unless to protect himself or family)without witnessing it with my own two eyes, I wouldn't believe it... Not at all... We were and still are total opposites... But he is my Bestfriend... I trust him, wholeheartedly...

I love how the police just discount the man that killed himself by saying well we knew him pretty well. Well the police were pretty good friends with John Wayne gacy at one point too. And he was friends with people in high places. Thinking you know someone pretty well does not discount them having murdered somebody

Veronica Dipietro my car broke down before the virus. I am also 37 and married. My husband is the sweetest man. But, I went to the store on foot one day and when i came back my phone had 32 missed calls because my sweet husband had not been able to reach me. My dad was already at my house when i came back. Family is so precious these people lost so much. They keep trying to find the killer that is so courageous.

I've seen them do this on internvews with family members in several different cases. Terrbily unprofessional. They also do a lot of leading questions which can be very annoying as its just to add drama and not great practices for journalism.

That is heart shattering. Two lives that should have never been taken. I hope this sweet family get the answers they need and someone is held responsible. Hearing about the brother is equally heartbreaking. So awful.

Seen many of these programs where small town cops just don't have the experience in murders and often have very few staff. They haven't got a clue here.

Whoever the roommate was bringing home is the killer...

With all the horrible people who have children and hurt them and neglect them...this wonderful couple took 3 children in and loved and cared for them. And 2 of them were taken....that is just plain BULLSHEET. For that beautiful soul of a woman said she failed because she promised in court she would look after them and she failed that one day..she couldn't keep her safe that one day...that made my heart break and i feel like that broken piece turned to stone. This crap doesn't make any sense. I honestly will never understand how or why one person can take the life of another.

It’s just so devastating because it appears to be completely senseless and the all the victims (the family included) are being forever tortured. It seems like it’s always the beautiful souls that endure the most horrific experiences😔🥺

Update. It was the roommate. She is under arrest. So her mom and dad lied to police what a shock.

To Anita's Mom & Dad. You didn't fail at protecting her. You were amazing parents and a blessing from God to all of your children. This cruel world failed her. Jealousy and envy came in and stole a sweet soul that will live on in all of our hearts and so will yours Mr. & Mrs. Knutson my Deepest Condolences for your loss of your daughter and son. May they rest in Heaven. Until we all meet again with our Father.

The people that run the apartments have keys...why not test them.

The roommate was friends with guys maybe she got one of them to kill her and she was at her parents house so she has witnesses to prove she wasn't at the crime scene. Just saying

I think Tyler is just a sweet, awkward man who deeply cares about his friend still, because she showed him kindness. You can tell the mother doesn't think he is involved by the way she laughed when she said he was awkward.

They arrested the roommate today. It took 15 years, but they finally did it.

When Anita told her cold lazy mother that she was in danger and she was afraid of her roommate and all the guys coming in, and they had keys to the place she lived, and she got threats on her phone, her mother did nothing about it. She could have done something about it. Her mom is very cold, and the father did all the responsibilities. Anita had two jobs and why wasn't her mother helping her. She know Anita was in an unsafe environment, and her mother did nothing about it, and Anita went to her. She could have got Anita somewhere else, got her to safety, but she did nothing.

Nope. And I hate how they even TRY to suspect him just because hes not social. Thats such bullshit. Its obvious he had nothing to do with it. With a victim that young, I expect the killer to be female or someone a female hired. Im guessing the roommate prolly hired someone and gave him or her a key.

He seems awkward, and admitted that she was his only friend. If he has any kind of developmental delays, he may have seen their friendship as closer than she (or her family) did, but not necessarily in a creepy/obsessed way. He seems a little naive, maybe, but also to want justice as much as the family.

Just so everyone knows ..her roommate...Nichole Thomas (maiden last name) Rice (married last name) was charged with Anita's murder on March 17, 2022. I am not clear on all of the evidence that they have against her, but I hope Anita gets the justice that she deserves. RIP Anita!!

Her roommate Nicole Rice was just arrested for her murder.

From watching many CWD Episodes I’ve learned some important things, especially;; If your a teen girl who’s pretty , from a smaller town.. Bad news.. I’f she is well liked, helps others and your smile “lights up a room”, your a murder victim!! Are there any victims that are ugly, never smile, no sense of humor and your frown darkens the room ?? I think those r the safe female teenagers out there !!

They said they did in the video and none matched from the people they swabbed . I did not hear them say they swabbed the roommate tho, hmmm.

What wonderful adoptive parents. During the time that they raised their adoptive children, they couldn't have done any finer job. Those children were truly blessed.

Heartbreaking! I pray justice is served and they look into that roommate a little more!

This is the first time I’ve ever cried watching one of these!! I feel so awful for the family!! My love is sent out to them!! It’s not Tyler-he’s awkward but he’s not a murderer.

They didnt just lose a daughter.... they lost a son too. That is heartbreaking for the entire family....

I agree. His mannerisms, naivety, the sincere belief that she was his best friend, even though the sister disagreed, all matched up with her parents description of her being the person that was there for the underdog. He seems sincere in his desire for justice, and the description of her. I didn't see it as creepy at all, unlike a guy in another video with similarities. Pretty sure that other guy is guilty, but not Tyler.

This loss is so sad, I feel a lot for the elderly couple who cared enough to adopt and loses one to murder and another to suicide. There isn't anything they could have done to stop it from happening, it's such a tragedy.

It's so sad to know that a person who would make a substantial difference in peoples lives and strive to succeed a position to educate and nurture our youth, commit to community and live a beautiful caring life be wiped out so maliciously and vicious by a female roommate without remorse and sense of consequences. That is a natural evil person to hate, despise and commit and act of rage beyond any sense of control, is unforgivable and should never be allowed in any community. This is a case now that mottos the saying "Lock her up and throw away the key" uncivilized vultures are not welcome where families and values exist.

I love the tact the family uses. Even in speaking about the people they suspect "If I had to list her best friends... I might not necessarily include him..." Souther Canadians :D

Of course everyone will comment on evidence. This case is about a lack of evidence, hence no definite suspects. But I agree - I DONT think people should assume someone's a murderer because they are awkward in their eyes. That means zero...especially in terms of evidence. Jumping to that conclusion is subjective and presumptuous.

@@lsnprice that's all I'm saying. There's a guy who is a total weirdo and does weirdo things so he is presumed guilty by many in the comments. This despite he is openly assisting in the investigation, is not declining interviews, none of the evidence points to him, the police have ruled him out as a suspect and he appears to have his wife's support through all of this. Fortunately for all of us, being different isn't a criminal offense...unless you're in the KZread comment section, I guess. I agree that brainstorming is certainly the fun part. Jumping to conclusions based on someone just being weird is not brainstorming.

@@anubrakahn2970 I think the people who said Tyler assumed it was him because he is awkward and different. He probably was the type of kid who was either bullied or ignored in high school and Anita was the one person who was kind to him. Just because the sister said she didn't see Tyler being a close friend doesn't mean Anita wasn't his best friend. They did go to Prom together, stay in touch after high school. Also, being from ND, I know the Minot police department hasn't dealt with many homicides , and Tyler is an easy target because, to be honest, is a little strange, but seems incapable of killing anyone. I think that Minot is still small, so moving into the same apartment complex isn't that strange. I started reading through comments and so far, I haven't read one that said they believe Tyler did it. I think Crime Watch was out to make him look suspicious. I have pretty good intuition, and am good at reading people. I don't think Tyler is the killer.

This is heartbreaking, two people who loved children enough to adopt and two being stolen from them.

Anita kept telling her cold lazy mother that she was being threatened, she was scared of her roommate, she was scared of the guys coming in, and she was in danger, and her mother did nothing about it. Her mother could have got her to a better environment, but she did nothing. Anita was working two jobs. Why didn't her cold lazy mother help her out? The father did all the responsibilities.

I am glad to have stumbled upon this video. I remember when this happened and have often wondered what had become of it. My heart just breaks when I see her Dad's face, Mother too. Such loving, giving people and this is what life handed them. Give up on Tyler. He doesn't have a mean bone in his body. Anita was a nice girl who treated him with respect. He took it to heart and wants to pay it forward. Come on Minot PD, time to call in the big dogs. God rest your little soul, Anita. I pray that whoever did this will be found and justice will be served. This family deserves answers.
