No else can do this series justice like Robert Stack. His dead pan, creepy demeanor is what made this show in my opinion.

And he was just as deadpan when the situation was humorous. Some of the series' best moments.

I think it’s the intro song, excellent, the later show with Dannis Ferrina god rest his soul, intro song sucked and it was becoming more like forensic files murders all the time and less about mysteries

Personally, I hold nothing against the late Dennis Farina. When the series was revived, Robert Stack had passed away a few years prior so they needed to find someone to carry the baton. It is true that things were different for Farina such as cases that had updates previously, but in all honesty, it was good to see there was still interest for the show. I feel that updating the theme and graphics was an idea to stay modern, but I agree it did take away from the concept in some way. Like I said, nothing against Farina...but Stack definitely had the right style and capabilities for Unsolved Mysteries

Charita and Nikki’s story made me cry. I had major surgery when I was twelve years old. My spleen began to rupture when I was six years old and for six years I was misdiagnosed by doctors. When my the rupture it caused my spleen to soak up all my blood. I was clinically dead for a minute and a half. I had surgery and had to stay in the hospital for two weeks. I never had a roommate and I remember feeling lonely sometimes. I did get to meet and play with other kids in a game room at the hospital. I do have fond memories of a nurse named Karen who helped me be brave every time I felt scared. I am 40-years-old now and never had any kids because of other medical complications. I was born with Sickle Cell Anemia and that’s what caused my spleen to rupture. Watching this episode made me wish I had a roommate back then. Someone to talk to late at night when I couldn’t sleep. My mom did stay overnight with me every weekend, but she and my dad had to work and couldn’t stay on weeknights. This story also reminded me how great full I am to be alive. I should’ve died back then, but God speared my life and I will always be great full to be alive.

The last story is absolutely beautiful. I forgot about it until this posting. Now I remember it as a kid. It's nice to know that friends, no matter how long they don't see each other, are always friends at heart and never forget each other. And not to mention the impact people can make on one another. So glad Niki found Charita and got to fulfill her wish. I wonder how they are doing now. Niki's little girl is all grown up now. I'm sure she knows all about their beautiful history. UM is amazing with these reunions.

POULSON was mostly hacking into the phone company which was a different deal. actually you'd be surprised how many people were doing it in the 70's and 80's and early 90's but the powers that be didn't want it to become general knowledge so they mostly kept it out of the media. plus all you'd really get out of doing it was free phone calls anyway so it wan't a big deal.

Stanley Gryziec's case is tricky, at least when the shell casing turned up. On one side, the police do keep details in these cases secret so if someone confesses to the crime but leaves out that detail, they can be exposed as frauds (people do confess to killings they didn't do, bizarre as it may be), and so there IS secrecy needed to an extent, but when it's clear there's something deeper then that going on, it's too late to get the physical evidence because it's been whisked away out of sight.

This is an old post so, but I’d like to give my two cents. - A lot of the bars owned in the Rome/Utica area of upstate NY were fronts for “wise guys” so to say. They’d get some local individuals to sign the deed and liquor license, then these mafia types would run the place as they wanted. Gambling, prostitution and drugs were everywhere. Even old time speak-easy places that were open 24/7. There was at the time a huge U.S. Air Force base in Rome that was basically like a giant piggy bank for these types. And Utica was always known as place for people who were wanted in other jurisdictions to hide/jump bail or flee into. Lots of street types, lowlifes and gang members flock to that particular area. All this combined for a massive organized crime presence. I believe that played into that case.

I believe the police was trying to cover it up and keep something or someone from being exposed because lets just say they wanted to keep the spent shell casing under wraps just for the sake of someone confessing… but then you have Cause of Death: Stabbing… when clearly he was Shot! If it wasn't for his wife being persistent on him being shot (because she saw the gun laying right in front of her eyes 👀) it more than likely would've remained as a stabbing! Then the cops not writing anywhere in the reports about witnesses who gave pacific details. Smells shady all across the board to me!

As much as I adore the happy stories at the tail-end of these episodes, it's the first stories that give me a sobering reminder that the universe is not fair and life is just never ending miasma of pain and misery. Here's what I think happened in the first story. The bar that his brother owned the license for had illegal drugs and gambling and possibly other things going on in it and the police were paid off to look the other way and so the cops when it got time to investigate the murder scene didn't want their cash to dry up so that's why they ignored the evidence.
