Kathy's story hit a nerve with me. About 3 or 4 years ago I was walking home. I was only a few feet from my house, literally right around the corner. At the end of the street I was on, a car sat at the stop sign. I didn't think anything about it as there were houses all around. I assumed they were waiting for someone to come out or something. As I got closer, I noticed the passenger was just standing by the driver's side, as if he were waiting for me to pass by. He was staring off into space. I felt uneasy with the scene and made an effort to walk on the other side of the street. I didn't want to walk right by the car. I had headphones in but my music was low. I kept my cool but felt as though someone was behind me. In a matter of seconds, my neighbor come out of his house to toss his trash. Then I heard a car door slam and tires screeching. I think if my neighbor hadn't come out, I would've been grabbed and forced into that car. I never reported it because it happened so fast. I wouldn't have been able to provide more details. It was immensely scary and I'm so thankful my neighbor came out when he did

And led to them being separated by sticking them in the system, away from the last constant in their young lives. It’s their parents who I feel really sorry for, coming home expecting to help celebrate two birthdays only to find all the kids gone. That’s devastating and if they learned a neighbour went to social services, I don’t envy that neighbour one bit.

I remember ages ago hearing a family story about a great uncle that had these guys come to his house to take the kids away during this same depression era. The family was heavily armed and scared the social workers away forever.

Growing up, I'd overhear Dad talking about stories like this a lot because a CPS agent a few towns over was on some sort of power trip. I spent my childhood *terrified* that something like this would happen to me and my siblings. So, I researched how to survive as a fugitive and came up with escape plans if men in black ever showed up at our house.

These "lost love" reunions always make me cry!

The one about the social worker happened to my father too and he never found his sister. I told him to go on this show, but he was to private. Well, he's no longer here, God rest his soul.

Same here. A lot of times at work I put 1 AirPod in and listen to music/pod cast. But I get sick of songs and changing them etc etc. so about 10 years ago I started listening to unsolved mysteries and a few other similar shows from the late 80/90s. I just listen to it at work. I don’t actually watch it. It helps the day so much and it’s actually pretty entertaining.

Now I know why my parents tracked my every move and why my mom walked me to school until I was 13. Of course back then, I felt embarrassed, but now I realize why, because of things like this. Poor Kathy, so heartbreaking :(

My mom always kept an iron grip on us going places alone, my sister would get so angry at 13 because our mom just wouldn't let her walk around the mall with just her friends and not our mom. I would only get mad sometimes because my mom would rarely let me over to anyone of my friends houses for a sleepover (only my cousins house most of the time, but my friends were always welcome at my house!). She always explained to us why, and I understood and didn't make a fuss about it. My sister only realizes now after having her own child and apologizes to our mom when the subject comes up.

Kathy Hobbs case was so sad. Rough childhood with divorced parents, then just starts to come out of her shell and gets murdered :(

I think we were all guilty of this at some point, going at the convenience store on our own without thinking of the potential danger watching us. Opportunistic robbers or killers can struck anyone at any time, and we rarely think that these attacks can happen to us. Poor Kathy. 😔

Kathy Hobb’s case is so sad it’s almost unbelievable. This poor girl had a sad life and it ended way too soon. I know of a case of a local girl named Brittany Phillips who was murdered in her own apartment in Tulsa, OK and the mother and local detectives have worked on the case for years. And over ten years later it’s still unsolved.

When the siblings got to see each other again I got emotional. You could tell how excited they were to see each other again, and I couldn't imagine not getting to see my siblings for almost 40 years

Cathy's story hit hard. Something similar happened to me leaving work a 5 or 6 years ago. I left the private school that I was working at and had a 3 minute walk to my dad's car. It was a dark, cold wintery night and parked in front of a church was a dark vehicle. Two, large burly men got out and started to call me over to them, I ignored them and started running as they were approaching me. Luckily, my Dad, a large man too, saw me and got out of his car in time and they took off really quick. The next day the cleaning lady told me to be careful, they take woman for human trafficking and prostitution in that area. 😢 😱 Thank God I don't work there anymore. 🙏 😅

Cant watch this show alone at night without my doggy next to me haha.

Can you imagine how the parents felt when they came home and found that their kids gone. How different things where back then.

I remember watching Bill Harrington's story when it first came out as a kid. As an adult, what type of lawsuit could that family have against the state? The state just came and took the kids away based off of a phone call. There was no investigation or anything.

Says who? If you have this file, please share cause I guarantee you that not a single child has been removed from a home based on a phone call. Perhaps the father admitted he couldn't care for the kids and did a voluntary surrender? He sure didn't try to fight or appear at the court hearings. People are such idiots, especially of the true crime variety. CPS and social workers does not "tear families apart". They have no authority. It's called "family courts". 99% of all child abused, molested and trafficked are by their family members and or friends of the family. In fact family courts fight so hard to keep families together, they almost always keep children in abusive situations far too long before removing them. In order to get your children removed from your care, you have to be doing a horrible job or simply are unfit to care for your children. Hate to break it to ya, but children are not your personal property and majority of people are not great parents. Courts have left children in abusive and unfit homes in order to keep families together, and yet these people are so horrible they still get their kids taken away. You act as if social workers just knock doors and take what kids they want.

Unsolved Mysteries has got me crapping my pants one second and tearing up the next. Such a Rollercoaster lol.

Watching this original Unsolved Mysteries during this time of Corona Virus lockdown side by side with the new one on Netflix. Big fan from Kenya🇰🇪🇰🇪

My dad's name was Bill Purintun. A few years before this aired we got a call one night from another Bill Purintun. Remember, this was probably 1986-1989, way before Google and cell phones. The Bill Purintun on the other line asked my dad about his family and if he knew anything that could help find his siblings. Unfortunately, we didn't. Years later we saw this segment and were so thrilled they were reunited!

The only guy involved in the kidnapping and murder of Kathy Hobbs was Lockhart and I’m convinced that he was the one who made the call on the 24th of October (a week after the October 13 killing of Windy Gallagher [16] in Indiana)

It's crazy how this little girl knew she was going to die and that she wouldn't live to be 16 yrs old and got so happy when she did this is unimaginable how horrified she must have been in the days before her birthday with those thoughts going thru her mind

One of the most chilling unsolved case of a burning car is abducted from her home & missing Mom & Wife Ailene Conway .. Aileen's burned body was found inside in burned car on the side of the road not far from her home..Her husband has passed away never knowing what happened to her..

I'm really glad there was justice for both Kathy & Angelo...I just can't wrap my around why these creeps who do this would do this to these poor innocent ppl & the other victims

I really felt compassion for Cathy Hobbes' mother, she seemed like a sweet lady. Can't even imagine losing a child to violence

I drive to that intersection of Maryland parkway and desert inn it gives me chills this could’ve happened to someone there it’s so sad.

The update of the story of Phillip Pelletier was very heart touching.

That intro is amazing and always gives me the goosebumps

The Kathy Hobbs case was never mentioned on The New Detectives-Blood Lust although they did mention Michael Lee Lockhart. He was sentenced to death for the rapes and murders of Windy Gallagher (16 from Indiana) and Jennifer Colhouer (14 from Florida) along with the shooting death of police officer Paul Hulsey (29 of Texas) and was executed on December 9, 1997. Lockhart did confess to the Hobbs murder prior to his execution. The call to Vegas police was made a week after the October 13 killing of Windy Gallagher. I’m convinced that Lockhart was the one who made the call, in an attempt to throw police off his trail

I cried through the whole part about the six siblings and I still can't calm down. Just showing up at a kids birthday party and tearing a family apart so thouroughly, without even giving the children or parents any chance to even say goodbye? That's cruelty. And tbh it sounds like those CPS people just got told "Oh, the four youngest kids are being neglected." and then showed up at the house and just took them, without ever speaking to the parents or really checking those claims of neglect. Just cause a family falls on hard times, doesn't mean the children are being cruelly neglected or the parents unfit to care for them. It was the Great Depression for fucks sake, damn near everyone was struggling to make ends meet, but tearing children away from their loving families is not the solution. I'm just really emotional and upset right now. It's great that the siblings managed to reunite eventually, but I just feel like they probably never should have been seperated in the first place.

Thank God, I didn't need glasses until the mid 90's, glasses in the early 80's made folks look like they were bumble bees. Hahahahaha.

We force both parents to work to make ends meet then steal their kids away when they are working. It's probably worse now than it was back then.

Catherine Kuntz is the name of the woman with the fingerprints on Lesters car, saw this on the Unsolved Mysteries Fandom Wiki page. Michael Lockhart confessed to the murder of Kathy, executed in 1997. I always like it when they have to reunion stories, it's good to have some feel good moments amongst all the deaths.

Some of these are so sad😥

Child services, kidnapping children legally for decades. Imagine being the parents and you come home to most of your children gone, taken away with no explanation, you don't know who, all you know is what your eldest kids can tell you. That has to be horrifying! Imagine going out of your mind looking for them! I'd be furious at my neighbors for butting into my business and having my kids stolen out of the house in a very underhanded manner!

People are such idiots, especially of the true crime variety. CPS and social workers does not "tear families apart". They have no authority. It's called "family courts". 99% of all child abused, molested and trafficked are by their family members and or friends of the family. In fact family courts fight so hard to keep families together, they almost always keep children in abusive situations far too long before removing them. In order to get your children removed from your care, you have to be doing a horrible job or simply are unfit to care for your children. Hate to break it to ya, but children are not your personal property and majority of people are not great parents. Courts have left children in abusive and unfit homes in order to keep families together, and yet these people are so horrible they still get their kids taken away. You act as if social workers just knock doors and take what kids they want.

Now I see why my parents are so strict I had to be in the house at 9 at 16 lol I hated it. I would never be able to walk to a store at 11pm. Such a sad story for Kathy to have a feeling that you won't make it to see an adult

He may have been cleaner than you think. It is suspected other cops were behind his death. It sounds like he may not have been willing to “play the game” or turn a blind eye to stuff he became aware of.

"Well meaning social workers" - social workers are some of the worst people I've ever met. They are dismissive, racist, very uptight and extremely xenophobic. I have never had a brush with them but I work closely with social workers and I am very aware of the way they do their job. Maybe there really are well meaning and honest people out there who genuinely wish to help but I have never met one. A colleague of mine got his name dragged through the mud by social workers who took away his children because he's a single father and "men can't take care of children".

I agree with you my youngest daughter lost her kid do to a social worker and a corrupt system they are organized crime syndicate who kidnap kids from families. That's what they are, they'll pay some day they will not get away with it. God will see to that. vengeance is Mine I will repay saith the Lord.

The children should always have the names of their bio parents kept for them when taken from their parents. Unless they were taken for abuse, then not given until they are 25.

Words with "phobic" and "ist" in them are so grossly misused and overused today that such an opinion can not be taken on face value. The situation that you mentioned about the dad, IF it happened for that reason specifically, is definitely sexist. But I'm not getting the racist/xenophobic angle of it. If your default reason for something not going your way is racism or some version of a phobia (ie an irrational fear) with no actual proof that it is the case, then you're incapable of being objective. This is just a general statement, since I don't know the details of what you're talking about. Too many in our society see racism around every corner when there's actually no evidence of it whatsoever. Unfortunately, I automatically roll my eyes these days when I hear these overly politicized words and phrases that rarely are based in reality and have very little to do with the literal meaning of the word attached to it. Nevertheless, the story about the siblings being taken away like that is just evil. Though the system today is far from perfect, it's nowhere near as bad as it was before the 1960's.

Did those people actually consider themselves as preventing cruelty to children? Not to mention parents. Uh-uh!

Thank you, I am watching tv with other people in my neighborhood. I was talking to them. Law enforcement vehicles and technology, has changed a lot since the 80s.

The call about Kathy's abduction is pretty chilling. He obviously knew how she was dressed, so was he a part of the abduction/murder or just a simple eyewitness? We'll never know.

According to the UM wiki, her murder has been solved. She was killed by a serial killer named Michael Lockhart.

It could have been a fake some false lead or MICHAEL LOCKHART her murderer they obviously know it was Micheal Lee Lockhart ..He murdered 2 other teen girl's Windy Gallagher in IN & Jennifer Colhouer in FL he most likely repeated a certain MO with how he murdered all 3 girl's..

More than likely the caller was Lockhart himself, trying to throw the authorities by telling them there were two abductors. The license number he gave didn't exist

@@lorileew2337 Plus he also killed a Texas police officer Paul Hulsey (which led to his capture). At the time of his arrest, they found several hotel and restaurant receipts 🧾 in the motel room (Where officer Hulsey was attacked).

Detective's suspect him of other murders that are unsolved & one's where the girl is still missing..He murdered in 3 States that we know of & most likely murdered Kathy Hobbs in NV making it 4 States.. There's a True Crime book about Michael Lee Lockhart and his victim's titled Perfect Gentleman written by Jaye Slade Fletcher..I just read that his idol was none other than Ted Bundy he most likely murdered more girls than Jennifer Kolhouer and Wendy Gallagher..I just read that his idol was none other than Ted Bundy ..
