I like the idea of magic being tied to emotion in the fey, love, friendship, heart break, betrayal, revenge. So many story hooks, you could flip your party rolls too. A wizard who is very analytical spells may no longer work but say a barbarian who is fuel by rage has powers that are out of his control.

These are great stories. I love it but the one that really caught my attention was Han’s the Hedgehog. The asking for the first thing he sees when he gets home is almost identical to the law of surprise in the Witcher franchise. In the show that is exactly how the guy cursed to be a humanoid hedgehog marries the princess of Cintra and has Ciri. He even turns back into a human after kissing the princess. This is so cool because it gives a backstory to the hedgehog knight that isn’t really explained in the show. Also, I love the bee archfey idea, maybe a plant one too. Speaking of the Witcher, a lot of it is based around folklore and fairytales. I think you should definitely check it out if you haven’t already

For the Baba Yaga story, I'd think it'd be really interesting if the river itself was used as an avenue of escape in addition to being a barrier. Maybe the party could fashion a platform or raft to just go down the river and it disappears as soon as they disembark somewhere. I think it would be so fun for this unexpected geological change to lead them somewhere else entirely and give them a whole new set of problems

I like the idea of innocent looking items (towels and combs, etc) as magic items. Add in magics that can change the landscape, and things could get interesting. The easy way to prevent characters from over using such items is to give such items a limited number of charges, so once the charges are gone the item is no longer magical. I would also make it so that such items cannot be re-charged, or if they can then the re-charging must be done by an arch-fey, requiring the characters needing to find the arch-fey and perform certain tasks [as in quests] in compensation for the arch-fey re-charging the item, and even then the number of charges will be low (5-10), before it will need to be re-charged again.

Absolutely to the limited uses! Something like the towel or comb would probably be single use for sure. Love the archfey recharge idea too!

cat race nine lives feature is fine. half-orc has the same thing, as do boars and giant boars. fun hack for a super durable phb-only game is to make a half-orc moon druid who turns into boars. that way you get the 1hp revival from both the boars and the half-orc, so you have to kill the druid 5 times in order to actually put it down.

Gamers are hoarders. We collect items that we never use. Lol.
