Always glad to see a notification about Monkey Hill videos! Doesnt seem as if Grady wants to go with or do anything with Bolly. He keeps pulling away from her attempts to groom his legs etc.

@Kim Hunter if he takes as much after his grampa, Grandee may happen. He is such a cutie and quick on the uptake and getting bigger and stronger very quickly. So an alpha male he may grow up to be.

​@@kimhunter7606 To rise in rank and become an alpha, a male must be aggressive, dominant, form agonistic support and coalitions with unrelated males and females. Also being a larger male is helpful but not everything. I think Grady has demonstrated aggressive and dominant behavior from the get-go. He is also a social butterfly. So, I agree, the probability of Grady having Grandee's muscle mass and becoming an alpha some day is very high. Grady is my absolutely favorite little nut born in 2022. Watching him strut about is just so adorable. I can't wait to see what the future hold for him.

My heart is breaking with Bessy hanging around the other babies.

Since when did any of Bossy's kids ever worry about anything but their own wants and needs? They'll even steal babies from their own sister. Poor little Betsy had to die, wanting only to get back to the comfort of her own mother. Sometimes these videos just break my heart, especially when I see infants being kidnapped and starved because other females can no longer have their own babies. The whole thing is just tragic.😢

There is absolutely no concrete evidence that Dy killed Betsy, especially via starvation. She was 3+ months old, healthy, eating solid food, and very independent. 3 month old babies can survive without milk. Even if a person disregard research, Tiny, Teeny and Daphny demonstrated this for all skeptical viewers. Moreover, Bessy's nipples looked red indicating the Betsy had nursed recently when Dy had Betsy. What caused Betsy death could be many things including Dy. We just don't know. We will have to watch Dy and see if any pattern presents itself like with Bo. I guess I see the glass half full. I see Dy as innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Lol. I agree. The whole thing is absolutely tragic. Betsy was a carefree energized bunny. She will be missed especially by Bessy. Girls are just so precious for macaque females. Silly, but personally it just makes my heart hurt.

Is Bolly just being nice? Well, when a barren female from the highest ranking family grooms a much lower ranking young mother with an adorable, popular baby, I'd say 99.99% of the time there is an ulterior motive at play. But Bolly was far more patient and polite about it than expected, and to her credit she was graceful in defeat. She didn't continue to stalk Grady or punish Vivy for outmaneuvering her. I wonder why she didn't try to grab Spritely? It would seem Bolly wasn't just trying to cuddle a baby, and she wasn't set on a particular gender (like Aggy used to prefer baby boys). I'm a sucker for protective big sisters, and Spiffy sure jumped into action (7:40-8:00) in response to Spritely's cry as some loud people were approaching. I love how attentive macaques are to babies and it's especially endearing when a young girl comforts or protects a baby. So freaking sweet, never gets old.

I knew Dy was responsible for Betsy's death. Either starved, or trying to escape. I never liked Dy, and even less so now. Same goes for Bolly. Bossy's checked out. I despair for the troop if either one of those bullies inherit the throne.

You make me smile. Poor Dy and Bolly. The real travesty is that the matriarch daughters were sterilized. Sterilizing these females causes exponentially more problems due to their ranking. The loss of their amazing genetics is also a travesty. It is true non sterilized macaques kidnap babies but isn't it strange that the scariest kidnappers are Dy, Bolly and Bo. These females seem to taunt the babies' mothers from time to time. Hatty is a big kidnapper, and one could include Berti, Rudy, Aggy, Sheri and Auntie but these females relent sooner than the matriarch daughters. It is true, Dy occasionally becomes interested in female super babies. She was interested in Bossy Jr., Gerty, Spunky and now Betsy. Each of these girls were totally out of control, especially Gerty. I wonder if the troop recruits Dy to help out with the feisty little girls. Lol. She is the only macaque in Bossy's troop strong enough to restrain these super babies. FYI, Bossy Jr. seemed to hang out with Cocky a lot and also jumped on cars. Bossy Jr died at ~10 months old. At this time Dy wasn't babysitting her, so there is no reason to think Dy had anything to do with her death. Gerty was hit by a car. Spunky is still alive. Then there is Betsy. I just didn't want anyone to see a pattern to their deaths that isn't there. Lol. The only pattern is Dy is drawn to advanced little girls that are super babies. Another interesting tid bit is Bolly really loved Dopey and Dopey liked her too. So did Bobby. Lol. Now we see Bolly admiring Grady. She of course loves her family members and their babies, but she must also adore cocky, aggressive, dominant, little boys. Lol. Another interesting scene I will always remember was when a mom with her baby is being viciously attacked. Bry and Dy leaped into action and attack the attacker thus protecting the mom and her baby. Fierce female protectors they are. You got to love that. :) I find these observations regarding Bry, Dy and Bolly dissipate any negative feelings I have for them. If you observe them closely, they are very loyal and loving females who defends their family members, and the troop.

Betsy's mum is Bessy.

Bessy turned out to be a very irresponsible mother so sad for her baby.Betsy .

I don't agree at all. Bessy has been harassed by her sisters constantly since her injury. Bolly and Dy are bigger, stronger and RANKED higher than Bessy. Moreover, Bubby also challenges Bessy constantly. Furthermore, Bossy has not defended Bessy ever since she was injured. Betsy was a super baby since the day she was born. Keeping her under control was impossible. Bessy looked sometimes frustrated and probably extremely tired trying to control Betsy. So were all the other moms who had super babies. Bessy was always nearby though. Bolly and Bubby were filmed trying to kidnap Betsy constantly. Did Dy kidnap Betsy or just babysat her because she was so out of control? Who knows. I don't believe Dy killed Betsy. Super babies are hard to control and sometimes die. I was very worried about Betsy and her independent spirit. She reminded me of Gerty. Dy also tried to control Gerty, to no avail. The super babies we have lost so far are Bossy jr., Gerty, Nova, Daria, and now Betsy. Pucky was premature baby but became as super baby like all of Dolly's boys. Pucky had an accident (hit by a car or had a fall) which resulted in cuts, bumps, bruises and eventually the loss of his adult front teeth. It's amazing he survived this accident. He looked horrible. Super babies seem to get themselves into trouble more than other babies. Dolly's boys, and Georgy were always in trouble. Why Betsy died is unknown. Did she die because she was trying to escape her kidnapper? Was she killed by a car? Did another troops member kill her? Did a human kill her? Did she fall? Was she caught in a trap? We just don't know. Blaming Bessy is just unfair IMO. Bessy is NO Nora, Tina, Gypsy or Bo. Is Gaby a bad mom because Gerty died? Is Reddy a bad mom because two of her babies died? How about Bossy, Haggy, Lancy, Lizzy, Dorty, Stacy, Dolly, Sally, Lilly, Tabby, or Lubby. All these macaques have lost one or more babies. Maybe in the future Bessy might have to hold her babies like Bossy does. Will this prevent her higher-ranking sisters from kidnapping her babies? She is a young mom and young mom's babies have a higher mortality rate. Bessy was able to raise Benny at age 4 years old and Betsy went missing at 3 months old. Babies are more independent at 3 months old, (see below for research regarding this) and remember Betsy was very independent. "During the first few weeks of infant life, mothers are almost entirely responsible for maintaining contact and proximity with their infants. For example, infants tend to break contact and walk away from their mothers, while mothers follow them and reestablish contact. During the second or third month of infant life, however, responsibility for maintaining contact and proximity shifts to infants (Hinde and Spencer-Booth 1967). Therefore, mothers frequently break contact and walk away from their infants, while infants follow their mothers and make contact with them. In addition to breaking contact with infants more and more often, mothers also increasingly reject their infants’ attempts to make contact and gain access to the nipples (Hinde and Spencer-Booth 1967). In doing so, mothers encourage their infants’ independence and reduce the energetic costs involved in carrying them around."
