UnREAL | Season 4 Ending | Quinn Becomes Mother | [HD]

Ойын-сауық

UnREAL Season 4 ends with the pyrocalyptic "sudden death" of the Everlasting set. While Rachel returns to Quinn, resolving the homoerotic Elektra impulse, sustaining the UnReal trinity of Quinn-Rachel-Chet, Tommy Castelli "treads the primrose way to the everlasting banefire".
Important Note for UnREAL fans: This is an Emmy-worthy performance of Constance Zimmer and Shiri Appleby since it concludes the series while also confounds the viewer even after they witness the Everlasting set burn into flames and give up its UnREAL ghost. Here are the detailed explanatory reasons:
1. QUINN'S "Sudden Death" : When the genius hobo Rachel with raven hair makes a fidgety comeback at Quinn's door, the viewer is afraid that a Rachel-without-Tommy, out of her gendered envy, is ravenous for a revenge and her baked recipe (which Rachel admits she wouldn't eat) is the evil-queen-apple for Quinn's Snow-white dreamy married life, and appears to be as menacing and murderous as
"Rachel née Rabinovitch [who]
Tears at the grapes with murderous paws" in T.S. Eliot's Sweeney Among the Nightingales.
2. CHET'S "Sudden Death" : When Rachel enters Quinn's bedroom privacy without her baked recipe (1:12-1:40), our fears are allayed only for Rachel and Quinn. Their intimacy rises above simple female friendship, reeking of the homoeroticism with which the Season 1 ends. The viewer wonders that perhaps it is Chet who has consumed the viand, as Rachel and Quinn might have planned and Quinn's "So, did you do it?" must be a referent to things more than one. Firstly, setting ablaze the Everlasting set ( by the aid of the cigarette butt at 0:16-0:26 ) and secondly, putting to death, Chet ( by the aid of Rachel's recipe at 0:43-1:07 ).
3. EVERLASTING'S "Sudden Death" : The entire pyrocalypse that's the highly visual end/ing of Everlasting/UnREAL again allays our rising suspicions of Quinn-Rachel conspiratorial sorority. And Rachel's tee that reads "STILL WITH HER" is now a safer sign of their mutually empathizing relationship without posing a threat to the Apeneck Sweeney of Everlasting, Chet, but not without a tinge of uncertainty.
Conclusively, this scene is as emotionally charged, intense, agnosticizing, epistemically intimidating and chronologically-stimulating (as the viewer's memory moves back and forth from Season 4 to Season 1 in a stream of consciousness) as the iconic eponymous scene between Sir Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster as Quid-Pro-Quo Dr. Hannibal Lecter and FBI trainee, Clarice Starling that won them the coveted Academy Awards, 1992 for "The Silence of the Lambs". The best of the UnREAL zealots, including the show-makers, would be contemplating the meaning of this postMODERNIST masterpiece of an end and the Quinn-Pro-Quo knowledge that it en'genders'.

Quinn can never harm Rachel because their love is Everlasting. She is Rachel's protector and saves her from herself since she is too smart for her own good, as her biological mother Olive, once confirms. Like Juno's swans, together they go, coupled and inseparable.

I really liked the ending. It showed Rachel and Quinn for who they truly are. They're both sociopaths but cling onto each other like a lifeline because their relationship is one of the only real things that they know. It felt as though Rachel, Quinn and Chet were all becoming a proper dysfunctional, broken family which was weirdly heart warming as Chet has referred to them both as family before in earlier seasons. It was a good way for the show to go out. It was twisted and dark but that's what made Unreal so amazing from the get go.

Broke my heart when i understood that NOTHING was wrong with the baby...even if Quinn wanted to experience motherhood she knew she'll never be a good at it...so she got an abortion and, in a way, that was the most motherly thing to do^^ still a bit sad that Adam wasn't one of the All Stars contestants...sad there was no room for an ending where we see Rachels phone ring with Adams name on the screen 💔 he was the ONLY male she ever been sincere with^^ the ONLY one she never used and the ONLY one whom came back for her not cause of some sort of twisted obsession for her but cause he genuinely loved her...loved it all ,the sane and the insane parts of her

I think it can be discerned that UnREAL privileges the unity in relationships between the crew over the cast of Everlasting. Perhaps, that's why there is much more reflection on the personal lives of the crew - including their marital status, progeny, spouses, sexuality, parents, accommodation, or a lack thereof, et. al.

Rachel set him up when she made Anna hear their conversation. If it wasn't for that Adam and Anna would be married. The truth is that even tho they had a connection it was just a fantasy they were being fed, just like all the other female contestants and even part of the audience. It wasn't real because it existed in a bubble outside of reality and all of life's complication. Once the spell was broken and he came back she didn't care because it didn't matter anymore.

It made me sad when I realized that this was it, the end of the show. If it wasn't for the failure of season 2, and the wait between season 2 and season 3, UnReal could have gone on longer.

  • @UnREALClips

    @UnREALClips

    6 жыл бұрын

Season 2 appears to be a failure since it lacks the glitz and glamor of a white suitor and as rightly said by Genevieve Buechner, who plays Madison, the reality is not as "white-washed" as it is made to be on the American dating shows, which are by no means representative of the lived reality of America. Therefore, UnREAL Season 2, from a critical point of view is a greater success than Season 1. Similarly, Season 3 shows a continued progression with its feminist concerns after the BlackLivesMatter concerns had been successfully addressed. UnREAL really progressed even in Season 4, as it addressed Queer concerns, all the while keeping the narrative of Quinn-Rachel alive. UnREAL, as is mentioned in my channel playlist, anticipated the #MeToo as opposed to Darren Star's Younger (another popular and equally liked show) that addressed it after it trended on social media. This alone is sufficient reason to celebrate UnREAL's predictive nature which is rooted in its roman a clef considerations. Infact, its rootedness in reality is the ethos which despite its UnREALity makes it the REALest show of our times. And it is so shocking to learn that Shiri Appleby and Constance Zimmer have been deprived of the Emmy that rightfully belongs to them. I am currently writing a short critical work on UnREAL, as I have majored in English Literature. I passionately believe that both Shiri Appleby and Constance Zimmer as Rachel Goldberg and Quinn King have the same kind of impact as Meryl Streep and Amy Adams in Doubt or Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster in SOTL. And this perhaps, is the reason why you're sad. If you watch other seasons with a critical lens, you'll begin appreciating the show better but to each, their own.

I loved and hated the ending. Hated because the extent of Rachael's crimes made it impossible for me to keep loving her and for me she was worse than an anti-hero, she became a full-on villain! I think the idea was to have her go through something similar to what Piper Chapman (Orange Is the New Black) went through, where she became a horrible anti-hero but came through the other side- but I think there wasn't enough time for her to recover and make amends so she ended up like Walter White (Breaking Bad) and Frank Underwood (House of Cards) who were too far gone. What I hated about the ending wasn't that I hated Rachael now - it's actually brilliant for a show to make you hate a character you loved - it's that she didn't really pay the price in the end and yet again another person took the fall for her and more people were killed and harmed. You could argue that the fact Rachael actually meant to take the fall herself finally is a step towards redemption, but I still think she shouldn've gone through a serious reckoning before the end of the series. Noelle slut-shaming her was a nice way for us to feel a little better that she's hurting a bit, but come on... she is responsible for multiple deaths she should be held accountable. I loved the ending though because of a lot of other factors- I think the show flipped everything by making Quinn the more human character in the end. She was always a better person underneath the surface, better than Rachael in many ways, but this last season put it upfront by making her actually realizing for good how toxic this environment truly is. I love that despite all Rachael's done - including her attempt to end Quinn's career by exposing the pregnancy from August - Quinn STILL cannot betray Rachael and throw her under the bus (even if ethically and morally, it is the right thing to do). I love that Everlasting went literally up in flames, and it gives the darkest hope that one day maybe these reality shows will finally go away or their current sadism at least will. I loved the little touch of Jay telling Maddison that "this is one dick you can't suck", and I liked that he was moving forward. However, I would've loved it if we were shown more of him this season, understand what was up with the cocaine use, get closure on the Alexi / ex thing, and see him romantically happy or at least dating. And generally for the show to give it's major LGBTQ character a little more depth (Jay IS a deep character, make no mistake- but I think the subject of sexual orientation could've been further explores by Alexi's and his character). Also, it would've been nice to have a gay Everlasting 😜 I would've loved to see glimpses of more past characters, like Serena, Darius and of course Adam (not neccesarilly as contestants: even just showing them somewhere watching the show, with Adam for instance Noelle's tape might have given him closure about Rachael). With that said, I enjoyed seeing Alexi again, was indifferent about August, and LOVED seeing Faith and her transformation (it also reminded us that Rachael wasn't always this evil!) I don't know if Quinn's child was aborted or not- AND I LOVE IT. By the way, I understand that burning the set of Everlasting is supposed to eliminate the trigger for Rachael and Quinn's behaviour, but I scarcely think that's the only reality TV set in existence, and though I appreciate the metaphore, it suggests that "this place" corrupted them. I think they both had that darkness within them and that place only gave them an excuse to show it, and if they want to, they could find another place just like it. Hopefully, they will finally learn.

עדן אנטופולסקי I personally believe the show intended to end in not such a hopeful note. I like that it ended that way it did, it gets tiring to see “happy ending” all the time. I understand viewers wanting to see Rachel pay her due and for her to get her reckoning by having her pay for her crime. But, I admire the show for taking another approach and showing that sometimes people don't get punished for their crimes and sometimes people don't feel remorse for their crimes, does that make it okay, no, but it happens unfortunately in life. So, instead of them taking the high note and showing her paying for her crimes and then ending the show, which to me would not have been such a memorable ending because it would have deviated away from the message of the show. It choosing to end the way it did makes sense being that the show was about the human condition, which is not always ”just” and ”moral” as you will like to be. It ending this way makes it more memorable because it will make people uncomfortable because it the opposite of what society tells us we should do or be like. And it shows that the world is not always going to be just and there will be people with no ”ethics” and ”morale”. So showing this sends a powerful message that there are people like this that are not always going to do the right thing, saying otherwise is deluding yourself. If others want to see a tv show where the character pays for their crimes then you're in luck because there are millions of tv shows, movies, books that show that. But if you want to see a show that doesn't preach to the choir and dares to show character for who they are and not what society expects them to be or abide by this show is it. So I admire them for ending in such a bold way.

Thanks for posting this. CONSTANCE ZIMMER DESERVES ALL THE AWARDS. I absolutely love how they left the actual circumstances about the baby unclear. I keep watching this over and over and I can see both possibilities. Rachel says, "there was nothing wrong with the baby" and Quinn tears up and looks away from Rachel/looks up. Is Quinn emotional about the decision she made to abort the child when the diagnosis wasn't as severe as she said? Or is Quinn tearing up thinking that there was something very wrong with the baby and likely wouldn't survive anyway so she wouldn't ever really know what it would be like to be a mother - and she was trying to make peace that fact. I should probably rewatch Quinn at the doctor's office to see if there are any clues there, too. But remember - even the first diagnosis said that there was only a 5% chance Quinn's child would have a live birth. And there were still high probabilities there would be medical issues because of her "geriatric pregnancy" (apparently that was actually an old term that doctors used for women over 35 getting pregnant but it isn't used anymore).

Thanks for your meticulous critical analysis, fellow UnReal fan. However, the point you're missing out on is that despite the "death" of the unborn child, dubitable or doubly-assured, Quinn finally becomes a (m)other to Rachel as she could not punish her and she makes Tommy, the UnReal scapegoat. Watch this clip: y2u.be/-sKYZBDo37g As such, Quinn surfaces as humane, sensitive, conscientious metaphorical mother as opposed to Doktor Olive Goldberg, the real mother. This ending strongly connects each of the endings of all the four seasons with the common thread of the UnReal Unity, which in Quinn and Rachel's case continues to be "Everlasting". While the set of Everlasting is burning, Quinn and Rachel reap solace in each other's companionship and "does it matter" to Quinn if her biological child could survive, when her metaphorical child is clinging to her in safety? Conclusively, they were the contestants and the show that were really UnReal, but Rachel, Quinn and by-extension, Chet, are the ones who continue to be both real and "Everlasting".

YES yes this is exactly it! Hardly anyone really gets their relationship so thank you for this clip and this comment. I love their relationship so much and this was really the ending they deserved. I'm so glad through this scene they finally admitted what they really mean to each other and that's it's okay to feel the way they do. I do love how they left the specific details about Quinn's baby unsaid but I personally think that whether there were more complications or not that Quinn gave it up for Rachel as she realised she really has become the mother Rachel never had. I'm really going to miss those two.

I think that there was something wrong with the baby. All the pictures she was shown at the doctor's office seemed a bit excessive at first. Then I came to the conclusion that all the pictures were to show her the extent of the baby's condition. I also theorize that is why she decided to bail Rachel out and become her mother figure in the end, because she lost her baby and needed someone to take that place.

Because Quinn would do anything and destroy anyone else to save Rachel. It's not saying it's right, it's just saying that is how much Quinn loves Rachel. They have a toxic relationship, but neither of them would have made it in life without it. Quinn needs someone to mother, and Rachel needs someone to support her and help cover up all her mistakes.
