The way the lighting reacts dynamically is just brilliant. There's alot that goes into photorealism but the cornerstone of a convincing set is accurate lighting. This is definitely a leap in our ability to replicate realistic light behavior. Oh man I'm so excited for next gen games. Hellblade 2 is being made with this engine and the gameplay reveal looks unreal (pun intended).

Patience, Sir! UE5 is among the most complex software programs in the world. It takes a tremendous effort for both Developer Studios and Hardware Manufacturers to keep on par with the requirements of photorealistic gameplay, which must be maintained consistently throughout a multiplayer game with dozens of levels.

I still come back to this video ALL the time, it's absolutely breathtaking to watch even almost 4 years later! With all the upgrades so far to UE5 I really hope developers starting taking advantage of the tech, it's so immersive...

6:56 If you look closely, you can see the nanite techonology catching up as it opens. You can see individual polies there, and they quickly transpose into a coherent circle.

This is so syncronistic... I went and re watched this after more than a year and I also caught that before I scrolled down and saw your comment. Maybe my brain saw it this time since I played around in the Matrix demo with triangle view and saw how they update with distance. This was probably a glitch cus it was a cutscene and is not limitation of the engine since I havent seen anything like it in the Matrix demo.

wouldn't be surprised if each triangle is around a dozen bytes. however, models like the statue only need to be stored once, and i'm sure there's a lot of procedural generation

Horizon Forbidden West comes close imo, but they're using their own engine if I'm not mistaken.

This looks like a sci-fi fantasy version of Tomb Raider. The character even looks and sounds like Lara Croft a little bit. The graphics are pretty much photorealistic, and the lighting is fantastic.

This is truly amazing! I'm glad i made the choice to move from Unity to Unreal for my games and possibly also "just" to create the environment for my books. I can only imagine, for now, how it will all look in the future!

Did you guys watch this on mute? He explained how Nanite virtualized geometry compresses 1B triangles to 20M losslessly. That's a lot of savings. PS5 games running on UE5 won't be more than 100GB

you obviously haven't seen the 4K rocks Modders make in skyrim

A FOV covering high fidelity curved display or a Reverb G2 VR headset would be an enthralling experience. Especially with the spatial audio. I honestly can't wait for games to come out using this engine. Particularly survival and RPG titles. Like ARK 2 or that Wukong game. I wish I had taken the time to learn how to use this engine. I've had a chance since UT2k3 was a thing.

What an awesome job, concrats to the dev teams and designer behind this.

Unreal Engine 5 has AI downscaling, so... it actually might be able to run this on your potato if it is able to read your performance. If they program optimized downscaling, this "game" could potentially be played on any computer. it would look pretty low poly on the oldest ones, but not to bad for 5 year old computers.

making a realistic character is very hard, just look at Star Wars, it's easier to make a stylized character and say it's not realistic because it's stylized than to try to make it look realistic
