yeah, it made me laugh. People don't talk showing their teeth like that. Shows programming alone does not make something lifelike. Sort of like when in games all the vegetation sways back and forth in the same way does not account for how in real life each plant has its own level of flexibility and wind varies from place to place within a single view. These programmers need to step away from the computer, touch grass and socialize in real life.

That was actually on purpose because they were showing off iphone face tracking. That clip was from the GDC 2023 presentation, where the actress was making very exaggerated facial expressions to show off the tracking and they were capturing it all with just an iPhone, and applying the animation to several different characters on stage in front of an audience. A more professional set up with proper facial tracking gear would look more realistic (see the Hellblade 2 trailer, for example, which is the same actress).

With a capable engine like UT it's quite conceivable that AI can soon generate an entire engaging game scenario, like a holodeck. Indeed the very same high level generation into a 3D engine could be potent for movie and tv series production because you get the 3D coherence and fast render that is otherwise difficult in pure neural space. Should be quite interesting. At first it will have many flaws but still amazing to try. Characters can have LLM style intelligence engines from a preamble fitting that character in that situation. A story teller LLM can dynamically prompt the characters to fit the overall narrative. It's not hard to imagine AI immediately generating a game world far richer and more immersive than Cyberpunk 2077. Midjourney style art generation and other AIs that convert that into actual 3D elements in euclidian space.

Unreal engine 5 seems to be THE game engine todate, if you want highly realistic games. For highly stylized games, those demos are certainly not meant as reference and you would need way more experience to get those effects running with your styles. In those cases you may not even need such a highly sophisticated engine. It also stands to question if you would need it for at least Nanite or Lumen, if you go the stylized route.

It’s insane that we are getting close to the point where these game engines will allow a single person to do like a Pixar quality movie (like some of their older ones) themselves and then output it as a playable thing, not even just pre-rendered.
