With this release, we’re delivering the toolsets we’ve been using internally to build and ship ‘Fortnite Chapter 5,’ ‘Rocket Racing,’ ‘Fortnite Festival,’ and ‘LEGO Fortnite.’
Highlights include substantial updates to both in-editor and gameplay animation features, significant rendering enhancements, an extended virtual production toolset, improved developer iteration, and much more.

This is the best time to be a 3D animator and I really want to use unreal engine 5 to animate things.
At this point i'm convinced they're gonna release new and improved real lives with UE 6.

UE6 is just gonna be one giant megacomputer which controls reallife weather, volumetric clouds and sun rays XD
I cant even begin how amazing this update is. The motion graphics, sequencer, viewport, outliner, quick retarget.. just amazing.
you all should try one day to play a future videogame named "Portugal: Rise of the Ornurenses" that will launch on Steam and it will be made on Unreal Engine 5 in a few years This game is a sci fi game set in Portugal where a young man named Sérgio created several robots in shape of mythical creatures for an exposition at the Web Summit... in this game players can play as one of this robotic mythical creatures like Griffins, Chimeras, Werewolves, Gargoyles and many others and complete quests across places like Sintra... I should not give too much spoilers but this game in the future will have expansions and players will be able to explore the full Portugal from north to south and even some alien planets as well in this new "pagan and robotic Portugal"

Have you tried paper zd? I thought about it but eventually decided to abandon 2d altogether.

I have been looking forward to UE 5.4 and these enhancements to VR/XR. It is time to build!
As an animator who just started learning CG character animation a couple years ago in Blender, these new UE animation tools look very approachable!
"Finally" is right, the movie render graph has been a long time coming!

when Nanites are able to work with all the characters, it`s game over for retopology! Some day....

Everyday is a new improvement
JUST TO MAKE SURE SOMEONE READS THIS. The Motion Movement Component (Mover 2.0) is now included but theres ZERO documentation on how to get it even into the Player Character Blueprint... Not even on reddit nor discord anybody knew how to do this. Again great documentation from Epic releasing CRITICAL stuff that was needed years ago and then not giving any examples.

What unreal engine 5.5 needs is to automatically detect the humanoid character And with a click of a button explain it which are the knees, the elbows and also the neck So it should scan the body and create a humanoid skeleton and also automatically apply those same features being explained, so the knees the elbows the neck all is autonomously added on its own, And also to have voice commands Where we tell it and it speaks back A virtual assistant SOPFiA So we explain This robot is made of steel, and it automatically makes it all steel frames, and that the steel is destructible And we explain it to procedurally generate a city and it generates a city on its own.
Is Direct Storage something you can add within this or is that entirely done through Direct X 12 programming?
Any links to guides on setting up or getting started with a lot of this? I'm going to be doing A LOT of animating soon.
I don't understand the in-editor animation and rigging stuff. From what I gather, can you automatically rig the unrigged model in-editor by just adding the module asset to the project? Or does the skeletal mesh need to have bones and weight paint integrated before bringing the assets in?

I believe the model should be rigged before hand and then you can easily animate the character using the new IK feature which move the adjuscent body part accordingly
Animation tools that every engine likely would want. Also nice to virtual scene improvements, but still feels like distance still has its faults or background type used.

Does anyone know how to control gizmos with middle mouse button like in the video? When I press mmb it just do panning like before. Is there a setting for it?

Apparently, it's a new plugin. You gotta enable in in the plugins. Called TRS Gizmo. Then again enable it in the editor preferences. Search for gizmo and you'll see it. It doesn't support snapping though.
Unreal Engine should be a complete out of the box package! Like Dreams on PS4! which I think they are doing it! We should be able to use SDF, Voxel, all sorts of polygon modeling/sculpting, UV Mapping, Texture painting with Quixel inside Unreal, Baking Textures! Rigging, Animation, VFX, Motion Graphic, Making Music, Sound FX, even 2D animation Hand Drawing (which I saw plugin for Unreal doing that!) and Spire rigging and animation like Moho, Simulations like Houdini and other things I don't off! all inside Unreal! We achieved some of these, but we can achieve more! especially the game dev workflow! We should have a decent modeling, sculpting already in Unreal! Unreal users shouldn't leave Unreal to make stuff and import! I think all should be done in Unreal! Please make that happen!
What the hell is "software variable rate shading via nanite"? Is this something we need to setup? does it gets activated automatically?

if you have to drag and drop everything. that means everything was pre packed in other platforms. not really created in ue4. so instead of sayin g"creat" you might want to saay " use assets effeciently"
I would like to see an improvement in upgrading the project to a new engine version without corrupting the project, I had problem from 5.0 > to 5.1 > to 5.2 and now I don't trust it anymore

Its adding tools so you don't have to constantly move things back and forth to a modeling software to make changes everytime you need to make minor changes so you can save time for more important things.
