    I deployed twice to Afghanistan and saw a myriad of cam patterns worn by: ANA, ANCOP, ABP, Commandos etc. Many of the older types were wearing a type of US woodland. The 2 Hyperstealth pats were in good use (ANA, ANCOP). ANP wore plain blue. I never ever saw any non-Canadian wearing CADPAT. To be fair, I didn't see every sq inch of the country so... Besides, we Canadians weren't even wearing it. We wore the ARIDPAT cam. Pretty much the only Canadians who wore CADPAT were members of the first contingent to deploy there (aside from SOF) centred around Third Bn, PPCLI beginning in Jan/Feb of 02. The ARIDPAT wasn't quite ready for general distribution in 01. Besides, testimony from many of my friends who were on that tour was that CADPAT seemed to be pretty effective in the scrub of the Tora Bora region.

    I know cadpat has also been used as a stand in for the afghan pattern for filming in shows such as homeland and seal team so there is a potential that it was used for that too

    Man, you can get a scuffed set of airsoft CADPAT in Canada for $60-80 which looks more or less the same, $150-250 is ridiculous for that quality. Pretty much all of them have white edges to the fabric, since cheaper cuts don't dye the fabric all the way through and tend to just spray the pattern on like a printer. Not good enough to slip past a change parade inspection unless you've got kit deficiencies and CoC gives the green light.

    I’m ex British Army. Never noticed a Cadpat variant used, but when simulating ANSF forces when on exercise in the UK, I did see a lot of Viper’s ‘digital DPM’. Viper mostly make clothing for the airsoft community and made a digital version of the standard (dark green) British DPM we previously used. I guess it was the closest thing to the actual Afghan digital uniform we could get in the UK and was relatively inexpensive. I remember the Gurkhas (acting as ANA) all wearing it. A quick google image search for ‘viper digital dpm’ will bring it up.

  • @jic1

    @jic1

    Since Viper seem to have abandoned that pattern in favour of something that looks a bit more like MTP, and many of the images I find when I search for ‘viper digital dpm’ show it on old-style ACU-cut pieces, I wonder how long before we start seeing them on eBay at a huge markup sold as 'Experimental Mid-2000s British Army Digital DPM Uniforms, Very Rare'?

    How could I get a full set in medium regular? I want the real stuff, not the airsoft fake garbage. Cadpat has been a dream edition to my collection for years now. It's perfect for my local terrain here in VT. I'd drive up to Canada to visit some local army surplus stores, I'm just unsure what would happen if they found it crossing the border. I also really want to get my hands on a medium regular Estonian digital uniform. Btw...I wish Canada would get rid of their PM, and left leaning government. I always feel bad for the honest hard working firearms enthusiast up there. I hear they've pretty much banned everything now right?

    A lot of weird CADPAT-like pieces come out of Pakistan. Mainly US BDU style cuts. The best commercials were a very short run of Parkland produced sets, 80% correct with a very close base material and pattern, accurate buttons, accurate enough construction, but with some corner cutting (like using white muslin for pocket liners instead of OD, OG material). Back when CPGear/Wheelers wasn't pissing off CF big-wigs their OTW Combat Shirt was essentially an issue item without being an actual issued item (though if I recall, it had an NSN, but that doesn't meant a whole lot unless the number is super specific). I've seen some Chinese examples that are impressively close to the correct process and substrate material. I've seen some "far from good, good from far" CADPAT outerwear that was convincing. I was on my way out when CADPAT was rolling in. Lots of pieces slipped through the proper R&D (Repair & Disposal) and surplus/demil processes then (and I'm sure for many years after). It's surprising how many pieces ended up in the US and EU. You still see TacVests in TW crop up from the US every so often. It's really weird how CADPAT was handled inside Canada. Without it being written into actual law (as far as I able to find out, I am not a lawyer but occupationally was intimate with aspects of the Criminal Code of Canada for many years in corrections work) they "made" it illegal to possess CADPAT pieces of any kind. 14 year old kids and adult collectors being questioned and the water with arrest for possession of pieces, most of which were properly demilled (with accompanying stamp marks). Even though most of those pieces were widely available through those who purchased surpluses and demilled lots through the Crown Assets itself (mainly surplus stores and vintage clothing shops). Even asking personal friends who stayed in the Forces, some PAFOs, and some in JAG and related legal positions: Not a single person had a real answer or was able to get a real answer from those above them in, the admittedly, junior officer ranks (save for a few Majors, as if that delineation opens magical doors). Heck, even some Army and Air cadet LHQs (mainly corps attached and affiliated with res or reg force units) were "authorized" (whatever that meant) to wear privately acquired CADPAT (issued, yes, I know, wtf, I witnessed that myself at CFB Borden) while on training or field ex. This was a time when the actual CIC officers, those in res that were charged with training these cadets, commissioned officers in CF themselves couldn't themselves get CADPAT. I heard later on the OG107 was no longer authorized, some army cadet units tried to field a MARPAT commercial clone with proper insignia, then OG107 was reauthorize but by then nothing was left in the surplus system so reproductions were ordered from issued sources with cadet specific markings and embroidery. Efficiency. If I'm not mistaken more uniform shuffling is due soon for the CF (CAF, what genius wanted that change and its massive associated cost to the taxpayer). (I must say, the newish ACU-like cut mandarin CADPAT looks pretty nifty, same goes for the multicam-ish CANSOFCOM unforms-- those cats always had to be unique snowflakes, ironically) You Canadians are a weird bunch of cookies!
