I loved seeing the mutual respect that Andrew and Renaud shared for each other. Great interview!

10:09 I theorized a writing implement for the Tunic foxes. They’re left handed, and the hexagonal tool would be held by the right hand, which explains why the glyphs are blank on the right side

Wonderful conversation! For these types of secret heavy or games with metagames surrounding them, it feels like the authors' experience observing contributes a 3rd pillar outside individual and communal experiences playing. Really grateful to listen to this.

I love Fez. I had heard of Tunic to a small extent, saw that everyone was enjoying it, and took a quick look at its steam page. I didn't watch the trailer, and just looked at the screenshots & the text on the page. I also looked at a few of the reviews. Based on what I saw on the steam page, I just thought it was a polished Zelda-like with a few interesting features (like the sacred game manual), moved on, and "forgot about it" for a while. This was until I heard people comparing Tunic to Fez. This instantly got me much more interested in Tunic than any of the things I had seen on the steam page (not including the video, since I hadn't watched it). It almost feels like this is a problem. The video gives a good taste of the secret language & puzzles, but the rest of the steam page just looks like "this game has some secrets in it", rather than the much more interesting "a large part of this game is about complex secrets & puzzles". If you don't know about the secrets going in, but you still play it, then that's fantastic. However, if you decide not to play it because you didn't know about the secrets, then that's not so great.

I feel like if the main blurb on the right of the screenshots had a more mysterious line in it somewhere, this wouldn't be an issue. Something along the lines of "Uncover ancient secrets during your adventure!" or "Decipher a mysterious ancient language as you play!"

I really enjoyed my time with Tunic and want to try my hand at Fez again but i don't feel smart enough to finish it. Each time I've picked it up i fell off because i didn't know how to progress. nothing on the game because it's really good. But this was a great conversation with these 2 and really scratched that itch of having a discussion about the secrets.

I was literally thinking these two might be related! I just played it, and remember being sad the person who made Fez was pressured so badly by the industry, but hoped this was their way of expressing the passion again, or by helping with someone else, or whatever,

Woah awesome. Fez is one of my all time favorites (top tier soundtrack) and Tunic is top of my list to play after I finish Elden Ring. I have been listening to the OST though and it rocks, feels like a nice hybrid of stuff like Chrono Trigger and Fez with that Dustforce sound.
