I mean Before the Pianist even began, he was orphaned and raised by his “grandma” He survived for a decade or more as a lone fixer even before the Smoke Wars, where he gained a core traumatic memory that could never truly be erased He was merely aimless until he met Angelica, and even then he was hesitant to open his heart towards her, afraid of losing her if he gained any attachment When a close call happened, he almost broke down then and there before he could even hear the words of That is That and This is This The failure to gain Wing citizenship due to a faulty promise by the Wings made him have to go one last time on a Fixer mission, ending up with the Pianist’s arrival and the death of Angelica and their unborn child and the massacre that kickstarts the road to the beginning of the game The Pianist may as well have been a drop in the ocean, a nobody musician that would have been replaced had he been killed, but the light gave him an opportunity Comparatively to Roland, the Pianist is pretty tame in terms of things that had been experienced

It's most likely because, at times, the notes feel like they're 'dangling'. A stray note appears in a place where it shouldn't, albeit still sounding melodic, ofc. It's really good at inducing 'madness' into songs.

Off-topic, but woudn't it be reasonable for him to become "Achillies"? - Losing someone important and finds rage as a suitable solution (Patroclus=Angelica) - The fact that Durendal originated and belonged from/to the Hero of Troy, Hector -The fact that both fell-in-love with a princess(Breseis being a trojan princess=Angelica being the princess in the novel) I dunno about you but these are facts that i want to point out, though i wont expect that this will added by the PM

All im just saying is that achillies couldive been a candidate of him being part of rolands different ego (mini- bosses) that existed in the library since it represents the emotional state of the wielder Edit: oh yeah about durendal, there are many sources as to how and where the sword itself originated, one of which is the sword originating in troy whom is wielded by the tojan hero hector But the one that i find reasonable as to where it originated was the story of charlegmane handing over the sword to roland, as a ceremonial gift of his knighthood(?) On this part of the description, it was said that durendal was charle's original weapon when he was atill in his youth, then was replaced and handed over to roland

I have a theory that the leitmotif at 0:43 ans 1:23 is part of the Pianist’s song that made people turn into notes. The fact that so many battle themes in the game use this leitmotif and how it appears in both Roland and Angela’s theme makes it feel like all of these themes are connected in a metaphorical or poetic way.

This sounds incredible I like how there's Roland's music appearing at the end
