Firts of all, Gohan needed a lot of help to destroy Cell. That rest a lot of score on the ranking of badass character, and second He used his full power into the kameameha. For another part, Ken never need help or uses a shity kamehameha, he only need his own hand to destroy the enemies. Think about it.

This is what makes Gohan my favorite character in the series to date. From the first episode it was made abundantly clear Gohan was not a fighter. He was timid, afraid. Desired a peaceful end to any conflict. Time and time again he was pushed to his breaking point which revealed his strength of his Species, being a Hybrid. But deep down it killed him each time, Gohan has a gentle kind heart. Even more so than Goku, more akin to his Adoptive Grandpa he was named after. He hates fighting and violence. Outright despises it, could never think of killing another despite anything they do. But when the day came, when everyone has fallen, when it was made clear he was the sole hope for everything he held near. When he was pushed to his limits Physically, Morally, Mentally and Emotionally. He let out a scream and showed what his true power really was. Overwhelming to everyone else. Goku would be angry during a transformation such as this. Vegeta would be smug and cocky during a transformation like this. Gohan? neither. Some forget one simple thing. He's still a child. With tears flowing with his aura without words it's conveyed that his heart genuinely is breaking of the thought of what he's going to have to do. But as the tears to begin to fade. It's made more and more clear that even a gentle hearted child sometimes has to come to grips with reality.

I always chose to see Gohan's tears as his innocence leaving. His crybaby persona being engulfed by his SSJ2 aura, and as his tears are lifted out of his eyes into the sky and they dissipate, he looks forward angrily with stern determination.

One of the greatest scenes in television history. The climax to a 4 year storyline where we saw the potential in young Gohan and knew there was something special about him. This is a young boy who has seen the horrors of the world in front of him and has realized that individuals like Cell can’t be reasoned with because all they know is fear, pain, misery and the joy of hurting others with no remorse. This is one of the most powerful scenes in TV history because this is a symbol of something more. It’s a symbol for those who have been abused standing up against their abusers. For victims saying they refuse to be victimized anymore. It’s not wrong to stand up for yourself and fight back. It’s not wrong to fight for what you believe in. Those tears that Gohan cried are the tears of every good person who has been pushed too far by evil people. Thank you for this incredible work of art Akira Toriyama.

This song still gives me courage when I'm struggling. I pray you're resting in peace Akira Toriyama.

HACE COMO 10 AÑOS atrás en una entrevista a Laura Torres le preguntaron como hizo para hacer ese grito. Y ella dijo que cuando leyo el guion y entendió lo que iba a pasar les pidió a todos que la dejen sola en la sala de grabación. @@Cercatore Not even close. The revelation did nothing but shock the audience with a sudden secret information and Reiner completely losing it. SSJ2 Gohan against Cell symbolises an innocent child breaking his own codes and desires to protect the ones he loves. A child. Not an adult.

I don't think it's really conducive to compare things between series like this anyways, each are fantastic moments within the context of their own stories.

i just love this song, because it fits perfect to gohans moment, a calm beginning and then a explosion, but in the context, its calm and powerful like Gohan

Rest in peace Toriyama, we will always love you. The world lost a real legend

Literally them most beautiful moment in the entire Dragon Ball franchise

I also love his elder Kai awakening upgrade, that Gohan does not need to tap into super saiyan to overwhelm his enemies as he can use his full potential to do so

After watching the original, I can say that this scene just got a lot more impactful. I always thought that during the original dub, gohan was a badass warrior, my mind back then was, “wow!! He’s the coolest character, I love this moment!!” and for a long while I kept that mindset every once in a while. Then, I was contemplating about watching the original Japanese dub when I was watching the eng sub of DBS while it aired, but when I did, oh my goodness, i loved it. The music, the silence monologue, the powerful singer of this soundtrack, I’m not gonna explain everything about gohan (since others explained it in the top comments), but it just made me realize how important that music was, and what it was supposed to mean. I’ve heard that most people that watched the dub actually loved the original dub/music, and I can confirmed it now that I’m here.

The speech that the head of Android 16 gave to Gohan before Cell stepped on him and killing him. Then the scene with the bird flying away followed by a red beam that sounds like a gunshot, which signifies Gohans youth and childishness dying and him becoming a young adult and understanding what Android 16 told him "Use your rage for good and let go to protect those that you love, just as I loved birds and this planet".

We should all come together and mourn for the greatest mind of all mangaka. Regardless of what everyone believes or thinks we should all come together at this time and hold each dearly. This franchise has impacted our lives in one way or another and we should come together and pay our respects to Akira Toriyama, you will be dearly missed sensei 🧡💙

Yo también crecí con dragon ball y de niño para mí estás escenas eran "épicas" y ya, pero ahora que tengo una capacidad más "desarrollada" de análisis, entender su significado me encanta Está escena en particular significó un antes y un después en la obra y un desarrollo increíble para Gohan, definitivamente dragon ball z fue una historia hermosa Aunque discrepo con lo de que ningún otro anime le llega a los talones, a mi parecer el rey siempre será One Piece, pero son gustos y opiniones, así que respeto mucho la tuya

To be fair, Gohan's anger is a very good theme, but not for a moment like that. I can understand the contrast between the name of the song, what happens when the song is playing, and how calm the song is, but there's something missing. I am french, and I grew up with a shitty french adaptation and dub, but we had the original songs, even if it was in the mid 90's. Shunsuke Kikuchi's compositions will always be the best, but i have to admit Bruce Faulconer made really good songs, sadly not fitting the moment.
