I ran hurdles in high school and one time the wind was blowing so hard they had to turn the hurdles around the wrong way to keep them from blowing over. The board on the top was bolted with two bolts per end with the stud ends sticking out the back. But, this time they were facing me and sure enough I dragged my trailing leg just a bit too low and snagged the top bolt! The hurdle didn't fall, it tumbled with me entangled in it! I had a 4 inch gash in my knee and couldn't finish the track season! That was in 1970 and I still have the scar today!

Whoever did that didn't know hurdles and should have been fired. And all the runners should have refused to run because that will always end poorly.

@@arodyanksfan It was a small rural school and the head coach was also a deputy sheriff. No one even thought about firing or even reprimanding him. We were lucky if the town doctor showed up at our games or events, because we had no medical staff or experienced coaches. Our school was so small that we didn't have enough players for an offense and a defense both on the football team. So, some of us played both. I played guard on offense and middle linebacker on defense. Anyone who "tried out" for any of our sports got in. No one was turned away, because we just didn't have many students. My graduating class was only 43 students.

I know very little about track and field so pardon my ignorance I was just thinking if it were a horse race, isn't it the nose crossing the finish line that counts? I can understand the front of your chest crossing the line if you are in an upright position but she was sprawled out. If the runner leapt into the air like a long jumper would the feet crossing the line constitute a finish?
