No it's the girl's power whoever she touches or whoever touches her gets extremely unlucky and the boy is immortal which means he cannot die. This anime is called undead unluck. How her power works is if she has so much affection for a person and if she touches or gets touched by that person that person gets more unlucky. Basically more affection - more unlucky. However even if she doesn't show that much affection towards a person she still gives them extreme misfortune.

The start was a bit confusing for me cuz so much was happening at once like they were getting jumped by the union then they just dump a bunch of world building like UMA'S, the union members, artifacts, negators and other shit but honestly fell in love with this series pretty quickly.
