I found the 1 element that has helped me the most when practicing improvised solos and lead is to stop being afraid to sound terrible. Honestly, I've improved so much by not giving a shit that I've played something horrible. 7 out of 10 times it sounds good. 2 out of 10 times it sounds bad. But that 1 out of 10 that sounds unexpectedly amazing is worth it. And I just try to replicate that 1 out of 10 as much as possible.

With an art as fun as soloing, there really is no end to learning about getting better at such, and that is just music as a whole! Cheers for the overwhelming amount of content, never something you can't learn!

Genius! We can hear Stings advice asking to be stated..... On top of that it corresponds to writing: Setup and punchline. And cool performers allowing for that timing, an elegant pause before delivering the punchline.

I've plenty of space in my head, Marty. So I'm ahead of the game with this idea. I'm teaching my great-nephew who plays clarinet and it really helps him in guitar playing. Great tip!

Hey Marty I have been intensively watching your videos and learning a lot from you. I was wondering whether you can upload a video with Alvin Lee's masterpiece "Bluest Blues". Would be great to teach us how to play that classic beauty along with its magnificent solos. Many thanks for all your teaching !!!

Usually there's a lot of space between ears when it's time to throw a melodic and emotionally interesting bunch of notes, usually shortened as 'solo ad lib'.. but yes, let the music breathe and also remember to breathe.

If you're blues in D, play the D minor pentatonic over the whole thing. Start there and you will eventually find licks that work well
