Sunlight: Bearded Iris thrives in full sun, receiving at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight each day. Plant them in a location where they can bask in the sun's warmth and energy.
Well-Drained Soil: Bearded Iris prefer soil that is well-drained and slightly acidic to neutral (pH 6.0 to 7.0). Avoid waterlogged or clay-heavy soils, as they can cause the rhizomes to rot. Incorporating organic matter like compost into the soil before planting can improve drainage and soil structure.
Air Circulation: Good air circulation is essential for preventing fungal diseases in Bearded Iris. Plant them in an area where there is adequate airflow to keep foliage dry and reduce the risk of disease.
Spacing: When planting Bearded Iris rhizomes, ensure proper spacing to allow for adequate air circulation and future growth. Space rhizomes 12 to 24 inches apart, depending on the variety and the size of the rhizomes.
Watering: While Bearded Iris are drought-tolerant once established, they benefit from regular watering during their active growth periods in spring and early summer. Water deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings to prevent root rot.
Fertilization: Bearded Iris have modest fertilizer needs. Apply a balanced fertilizer (such as 10-10-10) in early spring before new growth appears, following the package instructions for application rates.
Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers, as they can promote lush foliage growth at the expense of flowering.
Mulching: A layer of organic mulch, such as shredded bark or straw, can help conserve soil moisture, suppress weeds, and moderate soil temperature fluctuations. Apply mulch around but not directly on top of the rhizomes to prevent rot.
Winter Care: In regions with cold winters, Bearded Iris benefit from a layer of mulch or straw applied over the rhizomes in late fall to insulate them from freezing temperatures. Remove the mulch in early spring as new growth emerges.

These days you need to be somewhat wealthy to afford a few plants, therefore, my new home gets to stay sad with zero landscape, zero plants or flowers...hope my neighbors didn't expect me to increase the value of anyone's home with pretty landscaping! I am more likey to give my money away, I will not pay the prices being asked for tiny little plants! It only takes saving the money from NOT PURCHASING 2 or 3 plants to fill a grocery cart with food! ...Sorry too depressing!
