If I would've been the lowboy driver I would've let it warm up while unchaining her. Would have idled better by then so you could get it in gear. What a beauty though. Pinnacle of German machinists, welders, engineers and all who helped design her.

Don’t know why, but this big cat looks more threatening than anything in service now, standing silent and still it still. Strikes an threatening image, though in reality a modern 40mm cannon would penetrate its old armour, but what an amazing beast

If you look at all the German vehicles shown in this video, all of them have a great aesthetic quality about them in terms of their designs. The harmony of shapes, how things fit together, details..etc For some reason they are much more pleasing to the eye than the Allied vehicles. This goes also for most high end German cars as well BMW/Mercedes. This Royal or King Tiger is what 80+ years old? But it still has an air of modernity to it. The Germans were way ahead of their time in engineering than anyone else the problem was they hadn't enough time to work out the kinks of their machines, most especially medium and heavy battle tanks. The ironic thing is these are war machines..built for effectiveness on the field..not to look good. But they are beautiful machines.

What a beautiful monster! Insanity, of course. German engineering produced a superb (dare I say) Mercedes / Ferrar,i when what was really needed was a mass production 'Volks tank' such as the U.S. Sherman or the Russian T34. A tank can only be in one place at a time, and if the opposition can out-produce it by a factor of five -or more - there can only be one outcome. Also, without a protective air umbrella, A.F.Vs are highly vulnerable to attack by rocket - firing 'Jabos'; in addition to which, hollow-charge infantry weapons such as the British P.I.A.T. or the U.S. 'Bazooka' were quite capable of killing even these highly impressive, awe - inspiring - and beautiful - military juggernaughts. Just another example of the German military procurement department making a fatal decision in terms of how best to combat the quantitive superiority of the Allied forces; another equally disastrous decision being to opt for the 'tried and tested' (and far inferior) Me 110 /210 as a nightfighter, instead of the Henschel (I seem to recall) 'UHU' ('Eagle Owl) nightfighter, which, at 410 m.p.h.; was 40 m.p.h. faster than the De Havilland Mosquito. Pity - from Nazi - Germany's point of view - that they didn't decide to develop the latter (if only because of its 'coolness' rating), because, if they had, it would have stopped the Allied bomber offensive in its tracks. Anyway, if any tank ever deserved the Victor's 'palm' in terms of representing the Nazi German 'Panzer Lied' , surely the Konig Tiger was the outright winner!

Remember that tanks crews are small. For the record it's got its original tracks, so they need to be welded sometimes. So if you can find any spare tracks, please help the Tank Museum of Saumur, thanks for them😉

Stefan Richter Not so easy ! Ww2 german alloys were made with a bit of everything at the end of the war. In fact there is physical characteristics almost impossible to recreate. In other words : if you put a brand new part made in a new alloy the whole tank track breaks ! I hope I make myself clear...

Because the engine is cold and it's running on choke (rich fuel - low air mixture). Because of the rich fuel mixture not all the fuel ignites in the engine so the unburned fumes build up in the exhaust. Then when the RPM gets to low they pump the gas and the exhaust which is already full of unburned fumes get's a burst of really hot exhaust gas and that ignites all the unburned fumes in the exhaust which causes those very loud bangs :)

No need to rev the engine when it is moving 60+ tons at idle. That is what 1st gear is for. Especially a 70 year old engine with no replacement parts and considering the whole drive train is the most fragile part of the tank. Every time they move it they take risks.
