@XunyoZero No, they do prefer it. They’ve been using that word for centuries as a way to identify as the native peoples of the land. It’s liberals that are now proclaiming that word as problematic because it was given to them by Europeans. Natives themselves don’t have issue with it and many take offense to the term Native American as it’s use is viewed as white people telling them what words they should use and identify with.

Mexican here proud of my Native American ancestry and always standing for Natives rights.

The “natives” weren’t from North America either. They are descended from Mongolians who crossed the Bering Strait land bridge from Siberia.

Don't use politics as justification to ignore reality. Politics are fluid and everchanging. The past is not. Political parties do not care about you. Value your own knowledge over your loyalty to any system. Try studying some anthropology rather than a president. You can learn a lot that way.

No matter how long their bloodline has lived there in the meantime. That would make the Spartans not native to Greece. The English not native to Britain. The Romans not native to Italy. (To be fair, very few politicians write books without extensive editorial help, and this includes Obama. @@fargopcguy with our current understanding of history. Yes that could be the case. However the central dogma is that theory. There is good evidence and knowledge that backs that up too. However if you go deeper there are artifacts and signs of human activity well before the land bridge theory. For instance my tribe has a creation story where we came out of the ground at a sacred site known as Nanih Waiya (Mother Mound in Choctaw) in Mississippi. Take it as you will but I believe and many others too that we were actually from this land to begin with. I forget the term but in science it’s when two different species evolve exactly the same even though they have had no contact with each other. That could be the case why we are so similar 🤷‍♂️ We could have come from Asia, or we could’ve come from some other form of travel maybe by boat. Seems preposterous but I wouldn’t be surprised if someone tried and succeeded

The majority of Mexicans arriving are illegals, Mexicans are not suffering from a war, or persecution, in fact over 50% of Mexicans are either overweight or obese (so don't know why Obama is comparing the Irish famine where over 1.5 million Irish died from starvation which mean almost 20% of the entire Irish population died while Mexicans are stuffing their face with toccos and has become one the fattest countries in the world. The USA has its own laws and immigration policies. There are steps in which people can take to become a us citizen. Go through the paperwork and necessary procedures to become a US citizen. The USA has already got 40 million Mexican in the USA (that 1/3 of the entire Mexican population) Trump followers probably do believe American citizen come first, just like every nation does. For Mexico, Mexicans citizen come first For Japan, Japanese citizen come first If you truly care about the Mexicans they why don't you house them and all their kids (who they use to get a free pass to the US)

Kanye running for president was just a gag. We all knew it was just a joke. However, Trump running was a gag, too, but he won.

@@TheSnapback actually trump was playing the long game. Watching his interviews of the past it's very clear he wanted to run for president sometime in the future. That's why he started the birther movement. It helped him kickstart his political career

@Vijay Surya I am Chinese in Hong Kong. Even I am in China, there is VPN that you pay small amount of money to the service provider, you can access internet outside China. The western media just like to lie about the great fire wall and demonise China.

Let's not get angry or too offended here. But Obama is correct, and i'm so glad he tackled this subject. My family is of Native American decent, and i've witnessed many of the hardships we have gone through because of the loss of our culture. I was eating dinner with a friend who is from Vietnam. She said "You look like those guys who wear the feathers!" I said.. "You mean Native American?" And she didn't quite understand. Then i asked what she thinks of when she hears "American". She went on to describe a white guy, blonde hair & blue eyes. I told her that's basically a European! They are hear in America now.. but the originals were dark hair and golden tan skin! Broke it down to here and she was completely shocked!! haha. Gotta love history!!

+Mark Lawson Nothing makes me laugh more than scared white Americans. The most paranoid and fearful people on the planet despite little empirical evidence to suggest any possibility of harm coming to you collectively. And the ability to bury your head in the sand and ignore historical FACTS. Astounding, Bravo Sir.

***** Well, it's goes a little deeper than that. Native Americans are of Eurasian decent and come from many areas throughout Europe and Asia. Some have big nose bridges & long Caucasoid faces while some have more of an Asian look. We arrived here just before European & East asian colonization.

+Dem Ise I don't disagree with you. I refuse to celebrate Columbus Day for this reason. He was a racist that took a wrong turn and ended up on the wrong continent, and proceeded to enslave the wrong type of Indian ie. not an East Indian. Not something to celebrate. Important to learn and teach people the history of America, but teach it without leaving the important, often grisly, parts.

Everyone came from Southern Africa, what counts them as natives is the fact that they occupied America for 20,000 years

It doesn't matter. If you're born if a country, that's where your from. Wtf are you supposed to do, go back to a country without a citizenship and being unable to speak their language? Pretty sure Americans and Canadians are the only one who say that.
