@@wonderputz put his bass playing aside. He has still written some insanely good songs. He (in my opinion) is the greatest bassist of all time, not only for his bass playing, but for the songs he's written.

The bass player, Steve Harris, is the reason I picked up and started playing bass. The drive and tone he has is iconic. Absolutely love it when he does his signature triplet gallop like in The Trooper. He HAS to be one of the most influential bassist/songwriter of all time.

Same here, Dude! I remember my best friend hangin' out with me in my bedroom and he really enjoyed (and is still blown away to this day!) watching and listening to my playing along with the "Piece of Mind" album from top to bottom. I can't do it anymore but it sure was a lot of fun back then - lol

Adrian Smith, legendary guitarist, does backing vocals. His fellow guitarists are Dave Murray and Janick Gers (who joined the band in the 90s). Each brings their own style and strengths to the band.🤘

In 1986,i went to my first Iron Maiden Show ever, in Stuttgart Germany.Now,37 years (and 179 Shows in 30 countries seeing them) later,as a fan since 1983 (i'm 52 now) i'm so happy, that the band is still around!!! "Wasted Years" is my favorite Maiden Song ever and since i heard the Song for the first time back in '86,i'm trying to live my life as it says in the lyrics of Wasted Years: "Don't waste your Time always searching for those wasted Years"!!! Up the Irons forever!!! Thanks for the video and Greetings from Germany!!!

I was 5 when this song came out, thankfully I had parents who listened to it!

That album "Somewhere in Time" is being featured in their 2024 tour, for those interested! Cover something off their new disc too! "Senjutsu".

I want to go so badly, but the closest show is in Pittsburgh.

First cassette tape I ever bought with my own money at age 14. This song was the reason I bought it and then discovered all the other great songs on it. It was the beginning of it all for me

in 1986 i was a senior in high school and went to this concert at the fabulous forum in Los Angeles California, it was so epic we went back the next night and bought scalper tickets to which I still have today , UP THE IRONS !!!

I was too young for concerts at that time, but LOVED this cassette when I first got it. Only aged better over time. They're on tour in the US this year, featuring Somewhere in Time and Senjutsu, so relive it!

They came to my town but I was broke. One of the few bands I didn't get to see. The 80s had some great concerts.

Peter, the 80's did have some great concerts my brother, I started my concert going with Motley Crue at the Santa Monica civic auditorium, and it was new year's eve going into 1983 and the concert was called " New Years Evil, and I was 15,and the next one was 1983 US Festival and it continues till this day, and I'm 55 the last one was Maiden in 22 at the pond in Anaheim, you can't kill Rock & Roll I'm here to stay ...@@peterhineinlegen4672

Yeah it's a great track - surprisingly simple song really, but everything is just right. One of my favourites of Adrian's solo's too. Not too complex, but just hits the right tone and vibe.

great choice, I've been a Maiden fan since I was very young, I've seen them many times. I think this one is part of the essential maiden catalogue. These two albums, 7th son and Somewhere in Time, go great together

Adrian Smith (Guitarist) is an awesome singer. He does a lot of harmonies in Maiden. Check out his album with Richie Kotzen called Smith/Kotzen that they released during Covid. He does a bunch of lead vocals and is incredible..

Steve Harris is easily one of my all time favorite bass guitarists. His playing never gets drowned out, and he has such a fun stage presence any time I've been able to see maiden live in Toronto. When the crew comes out on stage and starts chanting with him during Heaven Can Wait is always so awesome.

Ah my brother you really took me back with this one. I was 15 and just ran away, halfway across the country. This whole album was my soundtrack to that mis-adventure. Such bittersweet memories 😂 Awwwright!!🤙

They had a SOLID decade of putting out really good albums, great singles and amazing merch, One of few metal bands that Transcended into the mainstream by quality of product alone.

Adrian Smith is one of the guitarists in the band. He played the main solo. He also wrote alot of the band's music with Steve Harris and Bruce Dickinson.

Steve Harris, the bassist, never disappoints. You wanna hear an even better performance of his? Check out "To Tame a land" 2015 remastered version. I have no clue how the guy's finger didn't catch on fire on that.

In my 1987 senior year book this was listed as my favorite song. Still is.

Actually at that concert because I seen them in Phoenix Arizona somewhere in time tour, with Vinny Vincent band who opened for iron maiden.

I was 15 😮 on my 18th birthday my little brother gave me the Killers album, on cassette 😏 and it is one of my top of all time albums, specifically Murderers in the Rue Morgue, I have always gravitated to music that was "older" than me. Especially all those "metal" bass lines, ❤❤❤

They are touring the US this year. I'm going to see them in Oct in Sacramento at the "Aftershock Festival " first time was in Long Beach Arena during the "Powerslave" tour. It will be my 8 time. IRONS UP!!!!

Somewhere in time was the first ever "Compact Disc" that I listened to.

Greetings from Los Angeles! If you’re open to doing more classic Iron Maiden, I would highly recommend “Seventh Son of a Seventh Son”, the title track from their epic 1988 album.

I was 7or 8 whenthis album came out, but I had an older brother and sister so was exposed to alot of music at that age. I always loved Iron Maiden, the bass sound is epic, especially back then when the equipment often couldnt express the bass sound to its fullest. So this band was really a big standout for me bass wise (and yeah at 7 or 8 I was able to appreciate these things, my family has always been musical with learning different instruments/singin encouraged 😊)

There is a band called Dead Meadow which has been putting out great music for more than the last 20 years. Their sound is Doom Metal/ Stoner Rock. I'd start with their first two videos from 2004/ 2005 "What Needs Must Be" and ""At Her Open Door".

In 1986, I was an impressionable 12 year old, and went with my Mom to the Iron Maiden - Somewhere in Time concert tour in St. Louis, MO. I can't pretend I remember this specific song being played, though I know it was one of the more popular singles. Fun fact...it was the only track on this album NOT to feature synth parts. Great song, great reaction!

Adrian - lead guitarist on this one -was playing this in the studio and Steve -bassist/leader - said I like that what is it? Something I have been working on but think it is too commercial. Steve said no we'll will use that and the rest is history

For most of 1986, I was in gestation... by say, 1989-1990, the musical climate had changed and Iron Maiden wasn't played as much on the stations, we listened to. With that said, by the time I got to high school, I was printing out guitar tabs to all the Iron Maiden hits at the library. I can still bust out that pull off lead from memory - it's a classic. I prefer to just play along with a guitar pro tab and the live track to learn the technical info and also the sound from the live track or album version.

One of my favorite Maiden Songs to play on bass. This and The Prisoner were songs I always tried to get on my cover band song lists. Notice the clicks in the tone, the slam on the pickup click. You have to be smacking those strings to get that high end. Steve Harris is the reason I learned not to teach my bass like a toy. It's made for work. Treat it like a machine and pound that fucker.

Maiden really surprised the metal fan base with their use of synth on parts of Somewhere in Time. But it really worked, wasn’t over produced and consistent with the futuristic theme of the album. Remains in my top 3 of their albums. UP THE IRONS!

Rhyme Of The Ancient Mariner if you want a great story and a great song. Based on the classic poem.. If you do the live version, Live After Death is best but the studio version is the highest quality playing (because it's done in the studio where you can play it till it's perfect).

Yes... The song is about the present time being the "golden years" & not wasting time trying to repeat the past. The chorus actually says that, but most of the time you were talking over it and probably didn't hear it. 😉

Great, great song. I'm not a huge Iron Maiden fan, but there are songs that (created in their own style) tug at your heartstrings... For example, "Alexander the Great" Is that from "Somewhere in Time"? If not, don't be offended, I don't remember... I was 9 🤣🤣🤣 btw. question: ? Reply: more Opeth, Nevermore (Sanctuary-"Future Tense", "White Rabbit"-Jefferson AP cover!), Sepultura (only old stuff - Arise, Beneath TR), and many many more...

I miss the kind of bass sound that cut through like an actual instrument instead of being more of a low-heavy "bass presence" for the overall sound, as became the norm after this era. If you switch from e.g. The Book of Souls (2015) to an 80s Maiden album, the latter sounds almost tinny for a moment until you adjust again. But the point was to emphasize the individual bass notes.

Dude. I can't believe you're in your 60s! I'm 46 and just kind of assumed you were 5-10 years older, maybe my older brother's age (57) at most. Mf horns up for us that stay looking young (no one ever believes I'm older than 35)! Anyway, what a fantastic track. Can you believe these guys were quite viciously attacked during the whole "satanic panic" era? I was absolutely forbidden to listen to them back in the day. So when I was in 10th grade, this kid in my writing class let me have his Live After Death video tape. I had to sneak watch it when no one was around. To my surprise, it was some of the least "evil" music I'd ever come across. I had tapes by christian metal bands that were 100x more "satanic" than Maiden. I ended up making my mom watch it and was like "yo, what are you guys on about?" And while it was still a little too "heavy" for her tastes, she ended up enjoying the video and Maiden got the pass after that 😆
