This is a very personal song for Canadians. Almost like a second unofficial anthem. It was originally written by Stan Rogers. Unleash the Archers' cover is a really good one. I'd recommend checking out their songs "Awakening", "Cleanse the Bloodlines", "Tonight We Ride", "Abyss", "Soulbound", "Faster Than Light", and "Legacy", as those give a better example of what their typical sound is, as this song is not typical of their style.

This song is some sort of legendary folk song in Canada. Definitely not their "normal" content. If you wanna continue to explore their music I would highly suggest "Tonight we Ride" and then "Cleanse the Bloodlines" and THEN move on to the stuff off the Abyss album

Definitely one of my favorite covers I've encountered. I grew up listening to Stan Rogers, so it was awesome to hear such a fun take on the song in a different genre! I mean, the original was a capella, so very different! And many Canadians want it as their national anthem, so pretty big deal. Love it!

IMMORTAL IS MORE THAN A NAME! NORTHWEST PASSAGE Ah, for just one time I would take the Northwest Passage To find the hand of Franklin reaching for the Beaufort Sea Tracing one warm line through a land so wide and savage And make a Northwest Passage to the sea Westward from the Davis Strait 'tis there it was said to lie The sea route to the Orient for which so many died Seeking gold and glory, leaving weathered, broken bones And a long-forgotten lonely cairn of stones Ah, for just one time I would take the Northwest Passage To find the hand of Franklin reaching for the Beaufort Sea Tracing one warm line through a land so wide and savage And make a Northwest Passage to the sea Three centuries thereafter, I take passage overland In the footsteps of brave Kelso, where his ""sea of flowers"" began Watching cities rise before me, then behind me sink again This tardiest explorer, driving hard across the plain And through the night, behind the wheel, the mileage clicking west I think upon Mackenzie, David Thompson and the rest Who cracked the mountain ramparts and did show a path for me To race the roaring Fraser to the sea Ah, for just one time I would take the Northwest Passage To find the hand of Franklin reaching for the Beaufort Sea Tracing one warm line through a land so wide and savage And make a Northwest Passage to the sea How then am I so different from the first men through this way Like them I left a settled life, I threw it all away To seek a Northwest Passage at the call of many men To find there but the road back home again

"Northwest Passage" is a Canadian folk song that UTA gave a metal spin. This isn't a typical song for them, but they do range from hardassed metal to more melodic metal. Check out "Tonight We Ride" for a good example of the "hardassed" variety: kzread.info/dash/bejne/h4OqvK2DnNXam5s.html

If you want to understand Brittney's truly awesome flexibility try her Power Metal Battle "Brindisi" with Fang. Just beyond belief how good that is, Brittney can do anything just like the Dutch windmills can. The original Northwest Passage by Stan Rogers is a Canadian classic and it's a capella. It's one of a very few unofficial anthems like Rush's Closer to The Heart, or several by the Tragically Hip (Courage, Bobcaygeon, Wheat Kings, Ahead by a Century) that basically all Canadians know.

I'm glad you didn't start your Unleash The Archers journey with Awakening. It's an incredible track, don't get me wrong, but it seems to be a "low hanging fruit" in the reaction channel space with like 80% of UtA reaction videos, so it's nice to see a channel starting on a different track. I see you've already done a few other UtA reaction videos which I'll be watching right after this, but if you're up for some more of this awesome band please listen to The Wind That Shapes The Land! It's hard to pick a single favourite track, but that one is a strong contender in my mind.

Just so you know, here is what this song is "aboot," as the Canadians like to say: The two Brittneys are at war with each other -- kind of like everyone has two versions of themselves, one good and one evil. Northwest Passage was about leaving what was safe and comfortable life behind, and going on a journey to find out who you are. And Brittney's doppelganger kills her other half at the end, because after going on that journey, she is never her timid self again -- as anyone who has ever gone on a journey of personal discovery has ever found. And the reason why you see all of the Brittney clones, along with the band members doing something other than playing, is because this song is her understanding of what it means to know that who you are is the sum of every choice you've ever made. In that vein, it's also why you see Brittney lay flowers at a grave marked "U.T.A.," because it represents the death of the band, had they never taken the chance, taken the risk, to find out if they had what it takes to make it -- something every doubting artist or athlete knows about. The gravestone is literally a picture of the question, "Why not take the chance to do what you want to do in life, instead of letting everybody else tell you what to do?" I say this, because most people will never know how many potential outcomes there could be, if people fought for their dreams as hard as they could, instead of letting life circumstances kill their hopes and dreams. Better to live life, giving it your all, than to live life safely, and always wonder "What if...?", because you were too scared and afraid to act. As Nike says, "Just Do It!" I would add a quote by Admiral David Farragut, from the War of 1812, who was entering a sea-mine filled Mobile Harbor, at Mobile, Alabama: "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!" That means to go for something, and the consequences be damned.

While I have to say, this isn't quite a patch on the sheer amazing depth of Stan Roger's a capella original. I do like the re-interpretation. Also the video is interesting, since the song is about someone driving across Canada and musing on the explorers who first crossed the land and seas around Northern America, so the video is kind of the lead singer of the band musing on being on tour, and the way all the different journeys and versions of her and her bandmates all blur into one. Still not sure why her doppelganger kills her at the end, but... there you go. It's metal.
